The OVA is what HAPPENED. It’s not like it’s just Juri telling the story to people and exaggerating. “Yeah guys. Then I totally kicked that bitch out of a plane.”
To start with, even though it was marketed together with the game, there’s no explicit mention to it being canon, and by the general rule, all those adaptation are not canon (to my knowledge, The Ties that Bind clearly isn’t). This movie is one of the closest, and some of its events are indeed referenced in the game, but it’s a big of a step to assume it to be completely canon in the details. I think there were a few inconsitencies here and there, like the one about the injuries, but I don’t recall them. Vasili10 claimed that the movie was definitely not canon, but that’s not clear.
From Chun and Juri rival dialogue, we know that they met before the game and it seems that Juri won or got away better than Chun, but judging from Chun’s expression it seems that it wasn’t as decisive as the anime makes it to be. While it is hinted that Juri is stronger than Chun Li, I’d hesitate to put her a whole tier above her.
If Sakura trained properly she would be very strong. Can imitate moves that she can see? Throw a hadoken on the first try, while it took everyone else years(assuming). She is like the Goku of street fighter
Sagat took a Metsu Shoryuken to the chest. Satsui no Hadou techniques are ALL assassination techniques meant to kill an opponent INSTANTLY. Not only did Sagat NOT die. He used the experience to further develop his own style and create techniques that mirror the raw power of the attack he took (Tiger Uppercut/Genocide/Destruction)
Other chars that survived such attacks are Gen, Gouken, Gill and Dictator. Gill and Dic have godlike power and Gouken slipped into a coma for years.
The manga is not canon, although Capcom likes to borrow things from the different SF adaptations, so it might or might not eventually happen in the actual storyline in the future. I recall they’ve recently put a couple of references to Nakahira’s mangas: Evil Ryu’s chest hole and the internet-connected tree in Dudley and Elena prologue in SFxT.
Funny thing is Sagat NEVER said Ryu cheated him. Ryu felt like that but Sagat just kinda took it at face value. “I lost so I must be weak.”
Sagat took 3rd in SF2. He didnt lose any matches. When he heard Ryu lost he simply dropped out of the tourney. Neither Guile or Vega had to face Sagat. I’m willing to bet Sagat could have taken both of them.
Plain honest Gouken beat Shin Akuma the first time, and lost the 2nd time (resulting in his coma/death/whatever). If without the dark hadou he is already on the level of Shin Akuma, with it he would easily be the strongest in the SF universe.
Storywise I’m pretty sure it goes as such, also assume that I mean each character at his strongest point in the series:
God tier:
Akuma ( and variations), Bison, Gill, Ingrid, Oro, Gen
Boss tier:
Vega, Sagat, Ryu, Guile, Chun Li, Gouken, Rose
Strong tier:
Ken, Charlie, Zangief etc etc etc
IIRC the most accepted canon is that Guile or Chun Li won the SF2 tournament, they are seriously strong. Vega is underrated by you, you seem to forget he is one of the original bosses of Shadaloo for some reason. Sagat is stronger than Ryu, and as far as I know always was until Ryu’s absolute peak.
This guy has it right, actually. Though canonically Charlie was always stronger than Guile, by SF4 I’d say they’re pretty much equal. However I’d say that your tiers 4 and 5 could use some interchanging, but they’re pretty close and styles make fights so… I have to agree with you.
