Looking for Love: Ibuki General Discussion Thread

Is Ibuki considered like a high execution character? It seems some people around the board think so.

I don’t think she’s that technical…

why dash just do neckbreaker and it connects

Because you get more damage off of tc4 > st.lp > st.mk xx neckbreaker? herp

Man, I saw DragonGod play on the Empire stream last night, and it was crazy. His mixups and links were airtight and he was super jump combo’ing into ultra like it was a cr.mk hadoken cancel. I was mesmerized watching him, and for the most part he was playing against a cammy and a Bison. I hadn’t seen much of him, maybe a little bit on the EC2 stream. Either way, it was really really impressive

^ Didn’t he go to Evo? Pretty sure I seen him getting beat on the stream pretty badly, either he improved or It’s a different guy.

I don’t claim that his overall matchup knowledge or game sense is flawless, but his execution damn sure was. Even if it was just mixup/combo videos it would still have had me mesmirized

I’m not sure Ibuki is particularly high execution. It takes A LOT of practice to get anywhere with her at all, I’m sure some people just give it up after a while. And her tsumuji loop is pretty tough. The main problem I have is the same with any of the characters that are made of glass. You have to have great execution anyway because if you whiff or mess up and get punished, it’s gonna hurt big time.

And yeah, the majority of Ibukis I see online are terrible. Random neckbreakers and constant jump back kunais are just two of the serial offences committed by most of them. I fought one guy who would just jump back kunai to the wall and then throw out a neckbreaker when he landed at the end… and his PP was around 500!

How did hien get the nickname penguin kicks anyway?

Probably from the PS1 game Pocket Fighter

in this game when you do hien… Ibuki turns into a penguin for a moment.

Edit: to save you time Ibuki does it at 5:35-5:40 ish of this video

Ahh, thanks guys

oh thats were ur avatar came from…

I’m fairly new to competitive fighting games and wasn’t around for the era of 3S but the more videos I watch of Aruka,Deviljin, and others the more I feel the need to learn 3S Ibuki on the side. Has anyone else felt similar? Should I attempt to learn 3S Ibuki or will it just hinder my SSF4 Ibuki?

Also any tips on where i can find a decent 3S guide/tutorial?

I was thinking of getting properly into 3s a while ago and maining Ibuki… but I feel I am 10 years too late. I still play it casually on GGPO sometimes when I get asked too, but I suck ballllsssss.

whats up with scrubby ibukis in ranked??

  • nickbreaker full screen
  • jump back kunai = infinity
  • EX dp kick on reversal wakeup always
  • FA backdash, FA backdash… i mean seriously am WAAAY far for your short ass FA to tag… what kind of bait is this!!!
  • overhead hop kick move on my wakeup

the list goes on…

sorry for trolling… but ibuki is becoming the new scrub go to character it seems…

Most people online don’t think and end up using scrub/lag tactics…learn to live with it lol

I don’t think she’s the ‘go to’ scrub character, there still aren’t many Ibuki’s playing ranked (I certainly don’t see many) and come on… there’s probably more scrub Kens and Ryus than all the Ibuki players online, scrub or not.

That’s not to say that I haven’t seen them, I met one once who would just jump back kunai to the edge of the screen then throw out a HP.Neckbreaker and continue on the other side. I sent him a message after I beat him saying ‘That was the worst match I’ve ever been in’ and he didn’t reply.

i think she’s semi-technical to effect her moves are really easy to execute to her ultra combo what is sort of a crazy amount of button imput but if don’t right can be pulled off i finally got to do her super a few times
