London Thread 2012

The purpose of underdog tournies was strictly to attract new players hesitant to enter the tournament scene and provide them with an environment they felt comfortable attending so that they could begin to get more serious. While I do think babying people is certainly not a good thing, it does help keep attendance up and can randomly lead to a few new surprise players.

Its more of a progression model, online -> casuals -> local -> underdog-> major…unfrtoauntely it has now turned into a joke where people who have no rights to be in it are getting in so they can get some free money…but that is another topic for another day

Either way you look at it, sooner or later your gonna have to get salty, and when you do, the length of your penis determines whether or not you keep grinding out to get better or you become a pot/stream monster.

It’s that simple.

Actually scratch that. They won’t even become pot monsters. That takes $$$ which 99% of these casuals don’t have.

As for using money to attract top players to your event. I have no problems with that cuz money = time and work spent. However I’d personally rather improve my scene, it will attract better players regardless of cash spent.

That’s my point. It is at the least putting them in this crossroad rather then people not being exposed to the scene at all. Some people might grind it out after, some might say fuck it, but either way its an opportunity for expansion, at least in theory.

i’m sure it will expand the scene, but i guess what some people are afraid are the methods of motivation. it’s human nature to be lazy, so that whole wanting to improve just to be better, the pure intrinsic motivation, the “heart and soul of SF”, seems like a lot more work which people are not willing to do. extrinsic motivation has become a key motivator for people wanting to achieve, and i dont think that’s necessarily a bad thing. money as a motivator is obvious, but the recognition through exposure by being e-sport whores or stream monsters contributes pretty easily to self-esteem and self-efficacy. players just need to be educated on how important it is to be intrinsically motivated as well, that the combination of extrinsic and intrinsic will make them overall a much better player. i think that’s the next step FGC should take, just not sure how that education would be done. as nice as it is to be a strong player tournament placement-wise, fundamentals are very key, and this “heart and soul” i feel is an important fundamental, much like how in music, interpretation and expression is an important fundamental to teach.

yeah putting my university degree to work

And my point is that they will not stay. If they couldn’t be arsed to join because they’ll get creamed and go 0-2, then they sure as hell won’t work hard and improve to the point were they can dance into the top 8 in any serious tourney.

Listen, I’m not trying to bash anyone or anyone’s hard work.

I just think this is a pointless exercise. I know all about bad ideas myself. Remember that crap I came up with last year, what was it called again? It was that big thread with that point system for all the old games. Now that was special needs if we ever saw the like here.

Passion in a nutshell.

Something our generation has been raised to lack, among a many other things.

Perfect example is Toronto. During the early to late mid 2000s, TO had the fiercest competition they have ever have. Despite being a fairly small scene comparatively, they managed to breed amazing players out of the arcades in all sorts of games from CVS2 to Marvel 2 to 3S. CVS2 had a strong scene of great players including JS and Ratio1beatdown and others, Marvel 2 had Jiggabry and Gerjay and 3S had Samir, AdamB, Ack, and CRoyd. Players that did very well against the US and bread from the arcade age. People who really wanted to win at the games they played. You shouldn’t worry about growing the scene for players to dump money in, the real players will keep playing and getting better. exposer helps near the start of a game, but a couple years after, ur no gonna get many gems from the local populations and the ones who are gems probably already know of their scenes and either in it or stay away due to the unwelcoming nature of the TO scene.

Anyone going to underdog tourny, im going to come if i can go with somone.

I’ve never won a tournament and i was denied entry into the last ae underdog. What gives?!haha

Turbo2Tone, you are an idiot but I do respect what you say about the old school games. The fightiing games were way alot better than they are now for sure. Still I do like AE which some of you will get all crazy pissed about but I like it since I was so used to 3rd Strike. I was one of the better players in 3rd Strike online and offline. And YES I won a tournament offline in Detroit a few years ago so you guys can suck it.

This is my opinion on why fighting game suck these days because ONO is a complete jackass who keeps asking you guys who “think” they know what to put in a fighting game and how a game company should run. No you guys or anybody else don’t know how to run a game company or should even give an opinion on it when you guys don’t know the in and outs of a game company especially fighting games. The older game snever asked for your guys opinions and how to make 3rd Strike, MVC2, Souol Calibur or Mortal Kombat. They brought out the games without asking everybdoy’s opinion on what to do with it. BTW, most of the old fighting game programmers already disbanded in 2002 or 2003 but it was ONO made it his way with some of the programmers aleady. I never really complained about the fighting games right now but I do like most of them.

Also the majority of gamers are not like YOU guys anymore and they don’t have fierce competitions with each other like YOU guys do on a regualr basis. Most gamers these days are regualr players and they rather play COD, Battlefield, Halo or any other games that are easier for THEM to play. I know I suck that’s why I like to play these games more. Most people do and that’s why people rather watch fighting games instead playing it anymore.Nobody wants to keep losing all the time to hardcore players who take it over the top like the rude and unfriendly TO guys especially who keep bouching their stick up and down wating for you to jump in. Ridiculous. That’s not talent or skill when you mashing the buttons an stick just to get your win. Sorry that’s not skill WHATSOEVER. Argue with me about this but you know in one way I’m right. Well you one thing you guys have some kind of competition or gathering in London comapred to Windsor. Windsor is all dried up now and it’s not fun here anymore. Some day I’ll come there and try you guys. Oh yeah I was supposed to come. Pretty soon I will. Trust me. Well this is how I feel about this situation but SRK is not really where I like to hang out anymore. I have a new job and going to school to better myself. Also I’m starting to go to the gym now to feel better and get healthier too. New things are happening for me now and I feel great now. Well make fun and say shit about me. Go for it and have fun doing it like you guys love to do like the homos you are. See ya London. Have fun.

That’s an easy answer: bias. I am sure we all knew this…

Well, the internet shitfest/circlejerk has come full circle. The more it changes, the more it stays the same.

he got accepted to a phd program. have you at least made the accomplishment of moving out of your brother’s bed yet? haha and you call us homos. not trying to make fun of you here, just shooting down your biased opinions and invalid arguments you make due to the weak support you give them.

fg developers i’m sure have been getting community feedback for quite a while now as well through location tests. 3s argument is invalid, its loc tests were in a way new generation and second impact. as for your reasoning to why mainstream FPS games are played more often now, the “easiness” i dont really think is the issue here. you can get wrecked by hardcore fps players the same way you get bodied by high level fg players. i got a buddy who destroyed me at cs 1.6 even though i had a wall hack on, and i was not terrible at the game either. there’s a lot more at work here if you’d make an observation at which countries these games are popular in. i could get into a lot more detail here but maybe after my final exam if requested.

i’m curious as to how you’d make the argument that FPS are easier than fighting games, so i’ll let you retort before i shoot that argument down, unless of course you’re convincing enough. what makes a fighting game deeper than FPS games?

Games today
are designed for casuals
– any game that has an AUTO Combo/Battle/Play button

are edited after launch for complainers
– Mass Effect ending
– I do not mean things like patches for fixes

are locking data on discs for companies
– just make the game an extra 10-20 bucks on launch

are too easy
– extra lives EVERYWHERE

not even going to touch the tourny topics but I’m against any “your allowed/not allowed in cuz your too good/bad” ideas.

Bias towards me? I don’t see why.

FEAR

This just made me laugh way too much.

I’m officially requesting it.

When do LoL champs reset??

If you mean free champs every week normally.

Dude, you just opened up a can of worms with this one. You can’t use logic and reasoning in these parts!

P.S. If you read Uber Johnson’s posts like a wrestling promo or shoot, the post becomes a whole lot funnier to read.
