Got screwed last minute and can’t go unfortunately. Buddy isn’t allowed to get his parents’ car in the shitty conditions. Hoping I can get to Winter Brawl during reading week I guess =/
=(
My recording setup is working now. Turns out the color problem was caused by the component-console cable packaged with the device. Quality is godlike, the thing has instant replay/playback on the tv frame-by-frame. 100% we will be recording stuff next time we meet.
Nice. Here’s a recommendation…after you play a best of 10, play it back, only this time, record the match analysis from the perspective of the guy who won. It’s really helpful to see the match from your opponent’s eyes. I sorta anticipate how this might be a bitch to do cause it’s painful to listen to your opponent telling the world why they can beat you, and it may be boring to some, but it’s REALLY helpful. To avoid video clutter, take your worst loss and analyze that.
PS. Remember, play best OF 10’s. Not FT10. I edited my original post. I need the results to always be the same as on a matchup chart (ie. 9-1, 8-2, 7-3, 6-4, 5-5, etc.)
Figured some of you might be interested in this:
Video Games Live will be playing at the JLC on March 21 (Wednesday) at 8pm. I can get private suite tickets for $59.50 a head but I have to know by tomorrow. Let me know ASAP if interested.
Personally, I am in for AE, UMvC3, SC5 and would suggest KoFXII if others are willing to play.
As an idea, there are a few suggestions I would give to this:
- Those that agree to do this need to stick to it to a consistent and hopefully extended period of time. Especially to chart improvement and find what they did/changed to do so.
- Those that do this should keep track of their own stats and up them themselves. While you might for forget after a long set exactly how you did (and have someone remind you), don’t expect them to record it for you.
- Time/date stamping of each session and set would be good as well.
- Character/teams used should also be recorded. I believe keeping the same char/team through out the set is key to breakdown/analysis of what happens and what you can learn from it.
I agree with this. We (as a group) don’t do it enough, and feedback has to be taken in without taking it as a personal attack or mushroom stamping on one’s ego. If you don’t agree with what someone says to you, ask them to explain why. Then listen. Try it. See if what they suggest works for you.
In. Let me know total price after taxes/fees and whatever other financial sodomy they request, then SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY (aka I will pay you).
Ben I added you for all 3.
Was gonna do this already, just waiting for ppl to start playing.
Can ppl just post the results similar to this:
Tuesday, Friday the 13th
Alvin vs Joe (UMVC3)
Joe(TeamA, TeamB, TeamC) wins 6-4 vs Alvin (Team HomoAvengers)
etc.
Just as long as you have the essentials I don’t care how you say it.
Sticking to a character or team for the whole set is what I wanted to suggest initially, but it’s dumb for ppl who don’t like that. I tend to counter character, or I switch characters when I don’t like a matchup. Even if I wasn’t like that, ppl should be free to choose who they want. You just can’t change your character/team if you win. Same as a tourney.
Anyway, it doesn’t even matter much, cause most ppl tend to stick to one character regardless.
As for the analysis part of it, I personally believe that players lose on a fundamental level. Rarely does someone good lose a long set cause they got beat by gimmicks. So even if someone picks 4 characters in a set of 10 and loses, the same fundamental mistakes will show up in all 4 characters. The point of this analysis is to analyze the mind games and the fundamentals, cause that’s what’s lacking in this city imo. Anyone can go on SRK and learn the useless theory, but insight into your opponent’s mind is what will take ppl to the next level (hopefully).
Count me in for Marvel and SF. I’ll figure out ways of getting together with people when I’m in London on weekends to play my Best of 10’s. My setup follows me wherever I go.
Done
So when we all gonna play?! Anyone wanna play tomorrow at all? It’s my day off. I got a car and could go where ever.
Let me see if I can get away with hosting another session tomorrow at my place. Anyone up for it (besides Martin)? Post/PM/blahblahblah.
I’m busy 'til Thursday. Free this weekend though. Been wanting to go to Waterloo for their Sunday ranbat at the Autoshop for a little while now. There’s probably some interest around here for games then hotpot?
Count me in for Champion Edition and Street Fighter EX plus Alpha
Do you even know how to play video games?
Mash till it works?
Put me down for SC5. I’m working full time now so I’m not sure if I’ll be able come out at all, I know for a fact I can’t this Thursday or next but I will try after that.
I really like the idea of a ranking system.
Added
I won’t be available to play until Thursday. I might be interested in Waterloo on Sunday, but we’ll see how much salt I bring back after I go 0-2 and throw a stick again on Saturday.
Thursday session it is then. As for Sunday, I am good to go then and we can do some carpooling to make it cheaper for those that want to go.
I wanna see Luis vs Avarice Grand Finals and the runback the next day.
