But isn’t that just evo results?

What about the majors in Japan which if I’m not mistaken have better character diversity then what evo has shown.

Also sim is at worst considered mid tier and has never technically been considered a low tier. My main point is that by comparison to sf4, sf2 low and mid tiers have a legitimate shot at winning majors. Like gief, fei, cammy, blanka and guile have a better shot at winning a evo tourney then someone like gouken, dan, hakan or ibuki. In fact didn’t jumpsuit Jesse place top 8 with fei a few years back at evo…I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mid/low tier place in top 8 at evo since the games been out.

Ya but you have to remember ST has a considerably less amount of characters. Plus the only thing that balances ST out is the damage. the only reason low tier characters like Cammy and Hawk can truly win is thanks to the massive amount of damage. And I`m not talking about O. Hawk corner option select that help him win so many games, but even the best Japanese Hawk players like Hiroyan and Viper still struggle to win all the time. In ST, the weekly ran bats always still show that anyone who plays Dhalsim, O. Sagat, Balrog, and Vega dominate the win streaks.

But compared to the old games broken tiers, SF4 pales in comparison. Just what Mihai said, the top tier characters make you wanna rip your hair out. How frustrating was it in 3S to beat down chun li and do all sorts of damage to her, just to be hit with her low forward xx SA2 to even even again. Or retarded corner pressure from Yun`s Genei Jin. Or Alpha 3 where everybody plays V-ism Akuma or at least has him as a secondary character.

exactly, that’s one of the first things that came to my mind as well.

damage is also a huge factor

Also, I never said Sim is low tier. In fact, I think he’s quite good. But your argument was basically: “A character that is not top tier can win majors so that game is balanced” which doesn’t make sense. In reality, characters that are not top-tier rarely win anything important. Cherry picking results is a sign of desperation.

So then when all is said and done both games are dominated by their top tiers and thus the "frustration"is in reality all the same. SF2 is just as unbalanced as SF4…except with better showings from low/mid tiers.

Ya sure SF2 and SF4, but CVS2, 3S, and Alphas are still brutal as hell, and I`m not even including Marvel 2 since we will classify that differently

It’s unfortunate 3s is as tier based as it is. The mid tier interaction with top tiers can occasionally be pretty good though, like remember when RX dominated that SBO tourney by raping nearly every top chun/yun user. Although I guess makoto has won SBO so I guess chun and yun do have some slight competiton…but for the most part that game is brutal excluding the high tiers.

I can always tell people are actually talking about games in this thread when it’s on the top of the Canada boards.

Indeed, totally agree with you. But Urien is more of a strong tier character and everyone knows how brutal aegis setup can be. Especially RX who is almost without doubt one of if not the best Urien in Japan. Dudleys, Uriens, Yang, and Kens can do well, but are not exactly tournament winners thanks to the armies of Chuns and Yuns. Makoto has the 50/50s but it relies on mostly guess work, where all you have to do is play solid with chun and that any move into SA2 will come sure enough enough hahah.

Yeah I always use to watch the old school 3s weekly tourneys back when 3s was still big in Japan and I HATED every chun and yun user ha. I was so hyped when I heard kuroda doubled perfected nuki’s chun at sbo using akuma…but then again I guess akuma is technically the best character in the game hence his terrible HP. Between 3s and a3 I always wondered which game had it worse…like if 3s chun fought a-ism akuma who would win lol.

It’s actually the opposite, AE has better showings from low/mid tiers because it is the more balanced game. Regardless, who gives a shit about low or mid tier characters? Play to win or don’t play at all.

And here’s a bonus:

Did Desmond make the move to Marvel 3 or is he finally finished when Chinatown Fair went under?

I believe he was at Winter Brawl, but might be a different xecutioner.

In other news, I ordered the SFXT guide…yes, I’m a sucker, and yes I’m liking the game more and more. And yes, I’ll even start using Tekken characters…especially Mr. Snipes.

Best footage I’ve seen so far, highly recommended

Classic Mihai hahaha.

On a side note I found the best picture ever :3

Winning’s fun :D.

my god his standing jab i love it. ppl eat so many counterhit combos, then when they decide to block them, they eat a throw. having trouble making his overhead effective though. it’s slower than my decomposing grandmother.

Guess who just opened the Amazon package containing the guide to the biggest piece of shit game since Capcom Fighting Jam?

I love how we are all messing around with Blade.
