Also, I don’t think that the SF community is the only one with no integrity, that allegation can be leveled at any community really. Especially once it gets flooded with the zombie parade like we did in 09.
I dunno man Counter Strike players hated Source for the longest time and so 1.6 continued to be the most popular. How come so few ppl kept playing ST/A3 during the CVS2/3S/MVC2 days although they are considered great games? How come everything pre-SF4 is virtually dead? SF players play what everyone is playing, and so they allow old, better games to die out. Pursuing comp is great and all, and I’m a fan of that mentality, but when you start playing total shit in order to get some comp…
Anyway, I’m sure the 99% is gonna love SFXT and say it’s good/great/the BEST.
CS 1.6 players were still a small niche after a while in the grand scheme when you consider the entire FPS genre (especially if you are going to compare SFxT to the entire fighting game genre and not just previous SF titles). Call of Duty and Battlefield kind of left that community in the dust, and there was also Quake, TF, and Unreal (and lots of smaller titles) vying for everyone’s attention as well. Every CoD game that’s not the newest one is dead, same goes for every other FPS game I mentioned. Fighting games aren’t special in that regard.
Anyway, if the game is fun then play it; if not then move on and forget what anyone else is playing.
Shooters are like Sports game, once the new one is out the previous one is bargain bin worthy. Almost the same as iPads now. Newest one was just announced and Apple actually said the difference is so *miniscule. *Its just how Capcom pumps out these fighters, xept they add different twists on things. Mix with Tekken, a sequal to a game made 10 years ago.
Activition (and Bungie just to throw in a insult) decide “lets just put the game in a different era and throw in a new gun” and the masses love it.
I’ve talked to Managers at EB and they laugh at anyone who buys a CoD copy when them** AND THE CUSTOMER** both know there’s a new one being made in 4 months. One actually said and i QUOTE “Shooting fans today are fucking idiots”.
So I’ll be leaving at about 530 for Kings.

Quake players play Quake Live, which is Quake 3 (the best Quake ever made). They don’t play the latest and “greatest” Quake 4.
Call of Duty & Battlefield shouldn’t even be considered FPS’s…they’re total shit. But you’re right, when compared to other r-tard games/communities, SF def is not special. It used to be special until Capcom sold out hard and the small but dedicated player base was replaced with fanboys.
As for moving on…easier said than done buddy. Are YOU gonna play me in 3S? And PS, SF was never about “fun”. It’s about beating ppl down and feeling good afterwards.
If you aren’t having fun playing games you shouldn’t be playing them. There’s a million other ways to get your jollies being competitive.
Battlefield 2142 was actually really good for what it’s worth. That’s really the only one though.
lol what? dude you’re confusing having fun with a deep sense of satisfaction. Nobody worth a damn plays to have fun, they play to win. There’s a huge difference. If ppl had so much fun playing, then you’d see ppl losing and laughing all the time. BOY THAT WAS SOOO MUCH FUN! GOLY GEE GOING 0-2 WAS A BLAST!
SF is about winning, that’s it. As a stick thrower, you should know there’s nothing fun about losing.
Or maybe I play for both? It’s the game - not the result - that is fun. Sure winning is satisfying but you need both, otherwise just find something else that provides both.
Also did you completely miss all the interviews with Kusoru after he won Final Round? He basically said everyone needs to stop being so serious and remember how to have fun. He trolled everyone there constantly (in a lot of ways) just for fun and still bodied everyone. UMvC3 is considered a poverty game in Japan too, so him and his crew just play the game for fun because they love it. What he did is basically like if we sent our best Guilty Gear player to Japan and he won SBO by trolling them with low tiers.
I’m sure Kusoru travelled all the way to America with his posse to have fun…he came to destroy ppl and he accomplished his mission. What he says in his interviews is bullshit. Do you believe everything ppl say?

It’s a shame 1.6 is unplayable now due to all the redirecting servers and nonsense.
Also COD and Battlefield are shit franchises. I never liked quake and unreal multi but I respect them like I respect 3S.
Honestly if I was destroying ppl in other countries I’d be making some of the biggest statements to get under ppl’s skin. If Kusoru said something like “i dont play this game seriously, whats so great about it” or “o…your known for playing this game? Ive never heard of u”. I’d love it
Kusoru is also known for being a huge troll in everything he plays. It’s not that he doesn’t play the game seriously, it’s that he’s one of the Japanese gods of kusoge (literally “shitty games”, but from what I gather it’s more of a term of endearment like when we say “poverty game” or “broken game”) that very few people in Japan play but these guys love them so they put their best into them. It’s not like he came out of nowhere to troll us - he actually discovered the DHC glitch so he’s been around for a while. He’s definitely one of my favourite players right now.
Forgenjuro/Forgenshiro posts on the UMvC3 SRK boards quite a bit and he’s like the Henry Cen of Kusoru’s group so his insight offers a pretty good window into what’s going on in the Japanese scene.

Ryan, I have another argument that proves you can’t be good at something and have fun while doing it at a high level. First off, something is considered “fun” when you let go and cease to attempt to control a situation. This is why partying/getting drunk/getting high/joking around/going on a rollercoaster/going to a movie is considerd fun by many people. Competing in a high stakes tourney is the opposite of fun because it requires total mental focus and massive levels of self-control. The training involved in getting to the top is not fun, it’s hard work. What IS fun is the moment of enjoyment you experience AFTER you win a big tourney. Finally, if Kusoru is known for being a big troll, then guess what? The dude is most likely trolling every1 with his interviews. Nobody had to tell me that to realize this.

yeah man, that game is immeasurable. I like it a lot more than SF4.
