Ling Xiaoyu Thread

I need videos people

lol

Please let this be a normal field trip, and could you check to see if she can Kara Throw with that far st.mk?

@KumaOso, bad news, I found out earlier today that her flip grab from RD isn’t an overhead and can be blocked while crouching -__- sorry for the misinformation yesterday, but the move really seemed like it would be an overheard. At least when I tried it against a crouching, all block training dummy, they always block all forms of it.

EDIT: Maybe I’m just bad at it, but I was unable to kara throw at all with Xiaoyu using her normals.

EDIT 2: I beat all of her trails just now, they really aren’t that bad at all, and she does have some pretty decent things to her advantage. However, I really want to find a way to combo into Flower Power, but I’m not sure if you can, I know you can combo after it, but I’m not sure about before it.

The thing I really like about Xiaoyu is that pretty much all of her moves are viable in a match (the only ones I haven’t figured out much for yet are Back Layout and Flower Power)

Specials

Storming Flower: Really easy way to push opponent away form you if you need to tag out or to finish a combo quickly for added damage before time runs out.

Fortune: has an extra hit to Storming Flower and puts you in RD quickly

Fortune Cookie: one of her best combo moves but very unsafe if blocked, so should be hit confirmed into. Puts you into RD and can easily combo in AOP stance into Wave Crest into SA, or into Phoenix Talon for meterless decent damage combo

Shooting Star: One of her only overheads, reminds me of Juri’s move where she comes at you from the air at an angle to followup with all those kicks. However, I think Xiaoyu’s is better because if you do not press kick anymore she will do one hit and land next to them very fast, nice spot for a grab.

Wave Crest (from AOP): can easily put them into juggle state and easily one of her best moves to put them into a position where you can follow up with Cross Art or SA

Double Map Sweep (from AOP): I haven’t used this much, but I can see this move being very tricky for someone who doesn’t know it. If you don’t spam it, you can do this move one can it will be tricky to see coming as Xiaoyu doesn’t sweep much (her cr.HK is bad)

Flower Power (from AOP): ???

Phoenix Talon (from AOP): great move to finish off meterless combos or to swap in and do this move as it does a good number of hits and I can see this being her anti-air. However, it isn’t safe on block.

Mistrust (from RD): just her kick and it puts them into a decent juggle state, you can get a couple more hits off this but it doesn’t provide for her most damaging combos

Dark and Stormy (from RD): her classic 3-hit RD combo from the Tekken series, only used after Mistrust usually to get in a couple extra hits.

Turn of Fortune (from RD): <3 I think this might just be one of my favorite moves in all of her arsenal. Though it is safe on block, you can combo into it from Fortune Cookie and from here you can end up in either RD or AOP and choose moves of your choice to add a satisfying combo, love this move, and thank you Capcom for it.

California Roll (from RD): like Abel’s roll except it goes through characters. Considering she is so vulnerable in RD and she can’t block, you can bait out attacks and just roll right through the opponent leaving them open to your heart’s content.

Cyclone Left (from RD): Her back kick from california roll, I would use this much as it is unsafe against people who have decent ranged pokes and they can lead to some damaging stuff one her, still a nice move to look at xP

Back Layout (from RD): isn’t an overhead, but it can be cancelled from tapping kick again during her back flip, if you cancel it, they will still be blocking and you can grab them easily to trick them.

Hakkesho: not a great move, and does little damage so doesn’t have much combo capabilities, but it is her charge move so you can get free EX’s and SA from this.

Unique Attacks

Cyanide: quick overhead that can easily ground bounce them and comes out quickly and can be trick to predict, if you don’t spam this move, it can be hard to see coming.

That is all I have for now, I’ll hopefully do her normals in a bit.

You can jump cancel from any stance into a neutral stance special or super. You can also cancel most normals into a stance (usually with enough time to make whatever you throw connect) but some of her specials are slow as fuck.

I have not found a use for hakkesho at all other than canceling mk and even then if you’re close enough to make the LP one connect you have better options. EX hakkesho combos into jab chain which cancels into ex qcf pp (whatever the name is)

I’m pretty sure ex mapsweep can be combo’d out of but its probably a one frame link.

her dive kick has projectile invincibility on startup.
back stance ex KK whatever the name is has invincibility on startup.
ex roll from backstance has invincibility but can be thrown. I don’t really get the purpose of the rest of her rolls, they seem very unsafe in general…

I haven’t found uses for phoenix stance qcb, mapsweep, neutral qcb lp/mp/hp.

HK in the air counterhits into a very floaty launcher.

On another note, her EX back layout tracks and can go full screen really fast to counter projectiles or people who throw out moves.

P.S. Her specials in RD don’t do any more damage than the EX versions of themselves so I wouldn’t recommend using a bar on them except the back layout which can travel full screen very quickly. Great way to get someone for the final hit.

all this stuff

im going to lose alot in the first few weeks

im taking mesures to contain the salt already

Her qcf kk does too.

Interesting note…let me go see which one is faster…

EDIT: They are both very fast, however, the back layout does more damage and is a bit faster, BUT the :qcf::2k: puts them in a ground bounce state and you can get a couple extra hits off of that to do more damage than the back layout. Overall, I’d probably go with the one soulsynapse said, unless of course you are in RD already xP

you can cancel any normal move from RD with jump cancel :stuck_out_tongue:

how do i make those nifty symbols… is there a guide somewhere?

Those symbols are made by clicking the down arrow 2 to the right of the Font Size tab. There should just be a blank white square with a black arrow next to it. Click it to get all the emoticons and keep scrolling down to reach the “nifty symbols.”

lol which symbols?

I think these:

:hcf::mk: :lp::a2:

ohh well you answered it anyways lol

I recall someone saying on a stream that Cyclone Left (RD) can be used to “kick” proyectiles and return them ala Rose

I’ll just keep going. Playing Xiaoyu is a joy in itself.

O____o I’m gonna go try that right now!!!

Okay, Cyclone Left does not reflect projectiles, and if it does, your timing has to be near perfect and you have to guess their move. She gets hit at anytime during the roll so it barely ever hits. However, Mistrust (the kick) hits projectiles straight up, and it’s EX version sends them back, perhaps that is what they were referring too?

Also, apparently I was wrong again, her California (EX or non-EX) does not go through projectiles, but only through characters. Also, to Oso, her AOP stance does go under Ryu’s hadoken, but I doubt it will go under lets say Sagat’s lower tiger shot or Toro’s projectile since those are low.

Also, I beat all of her trials (not bad, nothing extra fancy) and her titles are as follows, I don’t know how all the trails work but she has 6 white, and 2 blue ones. They say:

Devoted To Jin
Panda’s My Pet
All For Love!
Tons Of Courage!
Soaring Love
So Shoe Me
Lovely Pigtails (Blue)
To Protect My Love (Blue)

How do you do trial 16?

Yeah its probably that kick. Well if california goes through people I guess you can do it while the opp is blocking you partner’s attacks while Xiao tags in.

So her only move to deal with fireballs is her Mistrust, is that correct?

As far as I have tried, she only has a few options against fireballs in each stance:

Normal: Jump over fireball / Block fireball / EX:qcf::2k: tracks opponent and will go full screen quite fast, this is also great because after the move it puts them in a ground bounce and you can get an extra few hits off of them at the cost of meter)

RD: Mistrust will hit the fireball away from her and deflect it / EX Mistrust will send it back at opponent horizontally / EX:qcb::2k: is a back flip and it grabs them if they don’t block it. Like her normal stance one, it goes full screen and this one is actually faster than the other one in normal stance, but this one is a grab so it doesn’t put them in a ground bounce state so in the end it does less damage at the cost of 1 meter)

AOP: besides cancelling and jumping out of the fireball’s way, AOP can actually go under most projectiles (besides the low ones) that I have seen thus far. So you can just wait it out in AOP, and then probably cancel it into a tracking EX as listed above.

EDIT: Xiaoyu’s sparkles are magical!!! Mistrust can send a projectile in all directions like Rose’s reflect. Light sends it horizontal and Xiaoyu doesn’t move at all, Medium moves it diagonally away from Xiaoyu and she moves herself slightly closer to the opponent, heavy shoots it straight up but Xiaoyu takes a big step so you have to know where you want to send it and where she will end up to avoid getting hit. The safest one is obviously light Mistrust because there is no need to predict where she will move and it sends them horizontally.

Lastly, in order to do Trial 16 you have to pause between the :lp: and Cr.:hp:. The way this game works for a lot of moves is that you cannot cancel into a special if you cancel normals into one another because the game believes you are doing L,M,H,launcher. So in order to accomplish the trial, do j.lk, st.lp, waiting probably a frame or 2, then do cr.hp xx fortune. That should work.

Does the forward dash in phoenix keep its low profile as far as fireballs are concerned?

Also, I’m pretty sure Flower Power is the move in the Jin reveal trailer that repeats 2 more times then links to cross rush – maybe it has some anti-low properties, considering the way it’s shown off?
