Ling Xiaoyu Thread

OK, I updated about the stance changes.

From watching the streams, it sounds like Xiao gets rather possessive about Jin, especially with Pandora’s influence… That, and her old Tekken actress is back and Carrie Savage provides the English voice. You know, though, I always thought there was a difference in Yumi Touma’s performance for Tekken 4-6 because her performance in this game reminds me heavily of Tekken 3.

Yumi Touma is Xiaoyu? Well I’ll be damned, I really thought they did away with her.

Yeah, I’ve seen a few playthrough videos and they list her as her actress, still happy that she doesn’t sound so much like her Tekken 4-6 versions. She sounded like she went the wrong way for her pitch.

I’m still curious as to why Mayaa Sakamoto did her in the movie and TTT2 then. Could it be that Touma’s casting might’ve been done before Namco made the change?

I do love that Jin is Light Yagami though. It’s just too fitting to pass up.

I saw those videos, and after thinking about it, Yumi is pretty impressive. I’m guessing that Capcom Japan just grabbed everyone from Tekken 6, since I think that everyone that was in the Tekken movie was the same except for Xiaoyu. But in all honesty, I’m actually preferring the English voice. [S]At first while watching the Tekken movie, Xiaoyu was absolutely horrible. But then she grew into her role and I liked the second half of her performance. She’s pulling off the cuter side of Xiaoyu pretty nicely compared to the…personality she had in the movie.[/S]

So we made a mistake. Xiaoyu’s voice actress didn’t reprise her role from the movie. She’s voiced by Carrie Savage, a different VA. But I really like her voice, so kudos to her.

And I agree, perfect voice for Jin! It’s going to be difficult picking between Japanese and English.

All of the specials have EX markers except turn of fortune and the kick during california roll.

It’s possible it could be one of those things where EX using :lp::mp: is different from :mp::hp:.

That’s localization at work. In Japanese she’s just talking about the box.

what’s the anti air move clock used in that.video?

I really hope she has 1 go to ,

It’s her crouch roundhouse.

Yeah. Her sweep angles up a little bit, it might have uses as an anti-air situationally but I couldn’t find one specific good anti-air for her.

her phoenix stace dp move?

That’s a lot of inputs just for an anti-air. =P
:d:+:3p:, :qcf:+:k:

Personally I think Mistrust (any kick button while in Rain Dance) are some of her best anti-airs, but they’re risky since you can’t block. Big payoff since you can juggle afterward though.

that dont seem like to many buttons to me lol

even more so if you have one of the 8 button sticks

i don’t know in this case how many frames are required to completely switch stance, anyway in sf4 i’ve always been maining gen and if you need a situational anti air which requires stance switching (5 frames) you’re better off just blocking

so yes, as snakeAes says, I as well think it looks like lots of inputs for an AA, but it also depends on switch stance recovery frames…

might also depend on invincibility frames on that “DP” move’s startup

I’m not expert when it comes to fighting games, if anything I’m relatively new since I’ve only played them for a couple years thus far, but I got SFxT today and I’m trying out Xiaoyu since I’m dead set on a Chun Li-ng Xiaoyu team. I think her problem is honestly getting in because most of her normals have mid through poor range and her crouching attacks are a bit odd (her cr.:hk: is angled as some have said and her cr.:hp: puts her in a standing position almost so both are pretty bad from what I have tried.)

I’m not going to assume this yet, but it also seems that the moves that lead to long combos with her are quite difficult to get and have slow start up. Almost all of her special moves from either of her stances takes a while except I think :qcf::k: during AOP stance, and at first I thought she would be like Gen, but besides the stance changes, she really isn’t because most of her moves put her into one of the stances, so it is much safer doing those moves instead of switching manually. I know her :qcf::hp: puts her into RD if you don’t complete the full animation which is done my pressing punch 2 more times, so she is tricky to play against because you never exactly know where she is going with any of her moves, which is good  I’ll play her more and come back later, but that is all I got for now…sorry if it isn’t decent stuff, I’m still new as I said lol xP

Can you do me a favor and check to see if that flip move of hers grabs crouchers?

How good is her ability to open people up? I mean, if she has really short range she would struggle vs long ranged characters so she’s “gotta” have something to compensate.

I just hope Level Up Your Game does a coverage on her soon. I don’t trust Gamesradar on her unless it’s Combofiend covering her.

I’m not playing at this moment so I don’t know, but off of the top of my head since I do remember that move, I believe it is an overhead, so I think it does. However, word of caution, that move is extremely difficult to hit as you have to have perfect aim which is often difficult against an opponent who is moving all over the place.

I’m not sure how good her ability to open people up is, but she is almost how she is in Tekken, she has to stay on the move, a stationary Xiaoyu is a dead Xiaoyu. If you can keep her moving (which isn’t hard, believe me) it is very tricky to know where she is going to next, for example, lets observe one chain that I am in love with as I want to keep experimenting with it:

Her st.:mp: into :qcf::hp: (I forget the move name). From there, you can either follow up my pressing :hp: again to do 2 more moves and end in a normal stance (front facing) or you can opt to not press :hp: and end up in RD.
From RD you can do so many things including a 3-hit combo that puts you back in RD, her backwards kick with keep you in RD, the flip that becomes a grab, or her backwards roll, and from there you can keep going or just revert back to normal stance in order to trick them again. The one thing I’m really interested in with her is her backwards roll (I think it is the California Roll or something, IDK in RD), because I don’t know how, but numerous times the roll has gone through the opponent, leading you to be behind them. This is what you must mean by opening them up. The roll is invincible at first, and I went through a couple supers from Kazuya with it, leaving him wide open to punish, and I’m assuming it works with many others as well. I really want to look into that more, hopefully I can check that out tomorrow xP Hope this helps…

Depending on it’s properties, that flip could be good. If it has some invincibility, it’s our answer to an anti-air. When I first saw that thing in action when she was revealed, I immediately thought of El Fuerte’s Tortilla Propeller. If it has the invincibility, we could be looking at having one of, if not, the best command grabs in the game.

Actually, I don’t know about its invincibility, I need to find out more about that move too. I’m waiting on the tutorial on her too as I want to see others opinion (from people who are really knowledgeable in fighting games) but for now I think she is good. Also, when you say “our answer to an anti-air” do you mean it will be used as an anti-air or against anti-airs? Sorry lol, just a little bit of confusion.
