His reversal should be the least of your worries if you know how to bait it out and jump away or over it. It will grant you a full combo if you’re quick enough to punish the whiff. Rufus has to rely on cr. lk’s a lot so don’t be afraid to call him out and Raw launcher it, trust me it sounds really risky but it’s really not since all Rufus players need to use that normal. I bet if you manage to launcher Rufus one time after a blocked Dive Kick he’ll stop immediately from mashing out cr. lk’s. He’ll instead pause and then resume the cr. lk’s. Use that pause to start your own pressure and have him on the receiving end from there.
You can also take advantage of Ex Turn of Fortune’s super armor to protect you from mass dive kicks if you’re at neutral with at least 1 meter. If you activate Ex ToF just as he’s about to hit you with the dive kick you’ve been granted a free combo. Phoenix Talon also works as a reliable anti-air against dive kicks but you have to be quick about activating it.
I really don’t have many problems with the Rufus match-up and I use Xiaoyu as my point character. So I have to start a match off against Rufus without meter or anything else. I’m used to fighting just about every character in game (minus Christie and the troll characters) with a meterless Xiaoyu.
U could also make ex messiah whiff by going into aop outside the range of st.f.lp. but that doesn’t really solve the prob seeing as u can’t be in his face and I never thought about the ex tof tho imma check it out. And ya u can bait ex messiah but that’s not what iam saying, xia is still at adv when she gets in but its not they adv she would have getting in someone like vega. And baiting someone isn’t mu specific its player specific. Also just cuz most rufus’ spam cr.lk doesn’t mean that’s the move he need to use when he’s in he could still use st.lp, snd st.lk. and " He’ll instead pause and then resume the cr. lk’s" is again a player thing not a mu thing. All rufus has to do is use other normals and again xia’ almost defencless. And jumping away w/ good timing when u think he’s going to ex messiah isn’t very effective because u lose the work u put in to get in on rufus. Imo I would just block and try to punish with mashed super or backdash then punish but that doesn’t seem reliable. But imma check out phx talon the prob iam seeing with that tho is thst rufus could jump right outside of st.mp range and it will crossup making phx talon whiff unless ur pyschic and even then phx talon is only invincible for 5 frames so it might trade, at this range in general its horrible for xia and if he jumps idt anything will aa properly and we have to use a2a whic again at this range is very risky
okay so i can’t get this to work at all anymore. they must have either patched it out or changed blockstun mechanics altogether in the latest v1.06 patch
can someone help confirm this? on pc version (which i believe is at v1.02) i got it on my first try
Depends invulnerable for how long and invulnerable to what. If it is flat out just invulnerable to everything it might be a semi-decent way to close distance especially since it juggles into sweep.
Then again I haven’t played SFxT since EVO (before there were hardly any patch changes) so I dunno.
If they speed up hakkesho’s startup than this is cool if not than its almost useless cuz people will prob be able to use a meaty light attack and recover in time. The whole point about ex hakkesho being invincible is that u don’t have to change into stances to have a reversal. Which I think would be good for her if it done right. Although I wish they could just list all the changes at once because seeing kaz get buffed and xia only get this frustrates me
Seeing Julia get a buff really infuriates me. The bitch has 1000 health, fast as shit backdash and godlike normals plus a DP. Like what more do you need on a character?! o_O Ex Hakkesho is never used by anyone…I’m still waiting on Tatsu to tell us if the buff to Ex Hakkesho will even have any useful tech to explore. I highly doubt it though.
the damage potential for ex hakkesho is actually quite high
xiaoyu gets 494 dmg solo, which is about half of the average character’s lifebar
the other option is to do cr.fierce xx stance, launcher for an unscaled 100 dmg launcher which can potentially lead to even more damage. i tested with nina (who has a very damaging post-launch combo) and got 535 damage
now, the issue with ex hakkesho is that it takes 33 frames to start up (meaning it will be very easy to block if done as a reversal). on top of that, it has practically zero use in juggles and is -6 on block which is quite punishable
overall i don’t think it’ll be all that useful, but is a welcome buff nonetheless considering xiaoyu doesn’t really have anything to get opponents off of her atm. which is how it should be imho. i always felt that her offense and lockdown are strong enough that she doesn’t deserve an invincible reversal
Thanks for the reply Tatsu. I just wanted to get your 2 cents in on it because you’re the master of Xiaoyu. I figured it wouldn’t really be a “difference maker” but from what you’re saying it will allow us to have some more variety in our combo starters. I’ll take whatever buff I can get at this point, I’m desperate lol.
I heard flower power became a true blockstring all the way (before the opponent could mash DP to get out), but I won’t be able to test it for a few weeks. Will have to wait for someone else to confirm.
Most notable changes:
cl.st.HP startup reduced by five frames - now 6f startup.
f.st.HK now +3 on block
cr.HP has one more frame of hitstun
f+MK now -2 on block (less safe than before)
EX Hakkesho startup reduced to 22f (used to be 33f), full invul from startup to 15th frame. This may become a viable reversal.
California Roll now makes you face your opponent if you pass them, unclear if that’s only when you execute Cyclone Left, someone test please?
Cyclone Left has more float on hit, maybe making it easier to juggle afterwards.
Slight damage nerfs, but lots of increases to meter gain.
Since EX hak is 22f start-up, I guess it can be now used at a juggle? If that is the case, and if the 2nd hit keeps the “force stand even tho being juggled” property and +6f on hit, then would it be possible to do juggle -> EX hak -> cr.HP -> juggle EX hak loop? Maybe? cr.LP 3f start-up sounds nice I’ll have to see cr.MP with my own eyes.
I’m sure they will put some limit to EX hak.
Yea, that means if the Roll passes through opponent, Cyclone Left will auto-correct. I’m pretty much sure it doesn’t atm.
You’re right, So if it does with the update we’re going to have some really fancy oki games going on. Even though Cyclone left is unsafe on block (-11). Cyclone left adding a new juggle to our library too which is a great thing…Hakkesho combos were getting kinda stale to me anyways. Having a 3f normal will change a lot for Xiaoyu especially vs jab heavy characters like Cammy where our only answer to jab pressure was to either backdash or cr. :hk: which was horrible unsafe if Cammy read it. I really like the change to cr. :lk:, it was an unreasonably slow low and now it should have some use outside of boost chains…good stuff.
J.:hk: getting a buff is great as well because one of our anti-air combos Cr.:hk:, J.:hk:, St.:hk: xx Storming flower will do the same or just a little more damage than before.
st HK buff is stupid, but everything else is fine.
im actually kind of interested in what you will be able to do with the auto correct on the roll. I feel like xiao is about to become more like ibuki.
far stand MP cancel into KKK 214LK makes you roll to the other side from a footsie range. and now you automatically face the opponent? its gunna be like ibuki’s command dashes AND you get a 3frame jab. xiao’s pressure from canceling moves is about to get WAY more intense. more bitter about julia nerfs than xiaos buffs.
Probably fishing for counter hits on a crouch tech when you empty jump, or faking out your opponent into thinking you’re going to hit high and surprising them with a quick low instead, hopefully allowing Wave Crest to combo.
