Ling Xiaoyu Thread

i know this question might sound noobish but ive been looking for wake up options cuz i know she really has none. but how effective in terms of armor if any? has ex hakkesho, or ex fortune cookie??

The only move which has armor is EX Turn of Fortune / EX Dark and Stormy. Unfortunately it takes waaaay too long to get into Rain Dance and then do EX Turn of Fortune, especially in a wakeup situation. A lot of moves have invincibility on startup, but if I recall correctly they all require stances. No unstanced move has invincibility, even EX versions.

Her best option on wakeup is to either block or backdash.

oohh nooo lol i refuse to block lol backdash is better tho i feel that whoever is blocking is always at disadvantage but i guess is necessary. You are right is it takes way too long to do those stances specials. So lets say on a wake up situation i do either ex hakkesho or ex fortune cookie if the opponent does a normal or a string would it stuff my move?

Unless you get really lucky, yes.

Also, blocking is important. If you don’t know how to block you will lose. A lot. Get rid of the perception that blocking = disadvantage.

Yes well its kinda difficult for me since sfxt is not really my main fighter ima mk player and as u might know blocking in that game just takes the press of a button no matter the direction so im used to that and definetely on that game blocking is a huge disadvantage because chip damage its huge and the fact the there are setups that keep you blocking for a long period of time u could lose about 25% life on a single blockstring lol

My xiao basically plays Chris G status using a lot of overhead, jabs, divekicks and c.mk into wave crest and breakdance but it seems people is catching on online. Besides this the flower plower mix up. Anything else you guys find effective? Is there any use for hakkesho? regular or ex? or how about fortune cookie? Double sweep?? lately i have been using after the breakdance RD into CR and ex turn of fortune it stuffs soo many attacks even supers!! lol

She doesnt even have a reversal lol.

Hakkesho getting projectile invulnerability would make a lot of sense, especially if just enough hit stun is available to start a combo from cr.LP. The only other thing I might suggest is making EX Hakkesho an invincible reversal.

And this might be crazy, but what about upper body invulnerability on part of Hakkesho’s animation where she dashes forward? It’s not like it’d be stupid like Kaz’s wavedash.

Regardless, making Hakkesho actually useful would probably fill up a couple of holes in her design.

Well technically she does… any special that can be done from neutral unstanced position can be done AS a reversal (Storming Flower, Fortune, Fortune Cookie, Hakkesho and Shooting Star) but none of them are good. So, yeah.

I still don’t understand why Hakkesho can’t work the same way it used to, but instead work against your juggle limit. I think that would solve everything because it would give the Xiao player an option to either corner-carry the opponent or do a little bit of extra damage. If Capcom can’t even think of that, which is the obvious answer, I can’t see them giving it projectile invincibility. Because I can really see that leading to devastating setups if you tag cancel during the Hakkesho, it would basically make Xiao a fireball master at Hakkesho range since the opponent would not be able to throw anything really.

I disagree. How would it be different from, say, Chun’s Hazanshu?

Hakkesho is Xiao’s charge attack, so while with Hazanshu you have to time when they’ll do the projectile so that you can have your arc go right over it, Xiao could just sit there charging waiting for them to throw it out. Not to mention she could fake them out and just dash forwards or backwards and then maybe go right into EX Shooting Star to go right back to them. I could see some really big fake outs with that.

I think making a special exception for Hakkesho would cause more problems than solve problems. I think what we should look into is to use Hakkesho as a counter against backdashes since those are considered to be in air for part of it. I think looking at it as only combo-filler like it was pre-patch only is short-sighted.

If we can have fireball feints with Ryu, Poison, and Guile, what’s wrong with having an anti-fireball feint? Heck, you could argue Viper’s Seismo Hammer is this.

Despite being a Chun main, I think my Xiaoyu is better at this point so I’ll be repping that Xiaoyu with my partner, who will play Rolento lol.

The link isn’t working for me…it keeps going to a “Page Not Found.”

Fixed. I guess SRK changed where they were hosting the brackets.

Do you know who everyone else is using? Are you going to be the only Xiaoyu competing?

I might. My partner wants me to use Chun, but if he feels like we need the damage from the breakdance loop or if he thinks that most players don’t know how to fight Xiaoyu, then I will use Xiaoyu.

I know Tatsu uses Xiaoyu, but I’m not sure if he’d rather use Vega in a team format. Chris G, if he goes (which I assume he is) will probably also use Xiaoyu. As for other notable Xiaoyu players, I have no idea.

In fact, I don’t think there are any, lol. In America, anyway. I’ve watched a few replays of Japanese Xiaoyu players but I have no idea whether they’ll be coming to EVO.

so breakdance loop will after being patched be 3 reps
