Xiaoyu is not a fast character. In game speed she runs quite even with the rest of the Tekken cast. The only difference in her is several of her moves seem to recover a few frames earlier than they should from what she is doing. The most apparent example of that is her backwards roll donkey kick (Tekken 6 - California Roll - RDS f+3+4,3+4) which she recovers very fast and often rolls under punishers or outright parries them. That simple understanding makes her a great character to act weak and punish those that try to take advantage of her false openings. Feigning weakness is the mark of a Xiaoyu player, because few characters can really play the part as well as she can. It is just an acting role that takes time to learn how to use to highest effect. I am not sure how much of it will transition over to SFXT, but it is a puzzle piece needed to have a complete Xiao.
I will add you on PSN and we shall play. I main Ling competitively as well and I feel that if she plays anything like she does in Tekken (at least fundamentally) Then my Ling/Vega team should kick ass. Her false openings are the most fun part of her play for me. You false into rain dance, into phoenix then roll to side I’d like to play you sir.
Dammit, you guys are making me so excited to play her more than I already was. I knew a bit of what you two are talking about, but damn… She was my first ever main and to think that she’s exactly my type of favorite playstyle and that I only picked her all those years ago because I thought she was cute. Then my preferences in other games turn out to be in similar areas of specialty. Seems like fate lol.
Minekiesty, my PSN is NinthPixel. I look forward to gaming with you. Xiao and Vega (Claw) looks like it could be good team. Yeah, stances into all sorts of trickery is fun stuff. It does take practice to really make it flow together, but that adds to the fun in that is not something any newbie can mash out.
KumaOso, I am happy you are excited. She was my first main also. It was a hard road to get strong with her, but a lot of fun awaits those that persevere with Xiaoyu. I am glad that she remains on the more difficult scale to learn in Street Fighter X Tekken. I hope the fighting game community learns how rewarding she is play and learn now that she can be experienced on the 2d plane. Even if she resides in the low tier as she has in Tekken for some time. Tiers do not calculate fun or account for the numberless doors of creativity and expression that Xiao opens to her players.
I look forward to sharing the Xiao-fun with my Capcom brothers and sisters when Street Fighter X Tekken drops. I hope it also brings her new players when Tekken Tag Tournament 2 spans the globe.
Seeing this I just remembered that Lei Wulong isn’t in because of his stances sniffle
Anyway, while I’m not a Ling player, she’s cool.
I approve
Doesn’t Lei have at least five stances though? Ling only has three: normal, RD, and AOP.
i think 5 maybe too much for this type of engine.
Xiaoyu also has Hypnotist which makes it four. However, I would see it very unlikely to see Hypnotist in the game as it is a sidewalking stance. Personally, I have always felt that Xiao has held more true to being the Jackie Chan of fighting games than Lei. Lei looks the part, but his most effective gameplay does not revolve around his trickery and stances. Xiaoyu has to use more and more tricks as her opponents become wise in knowing that they can wait for her to mess up. Lei has solid tools to fall on where Xiao just has to really put on a circus show to make strikes count.
What exactly makes a character truer to Jackie Chan? In his older films, he has plenty of solid moves and doesn’t always rely on tricks/feints/IKEA items to win a fight.
Jackie Chan in films can manage a more defensive fight, but he always struggled in every movie I have seen. Xiaoyu also struggles when in the same scenarios. Lei has so many low attacks, mix-up options that lead to high damage that he is in many ways stronger in a defensive fight. Not to mention that Lei tops it off with strong fundamental tools he can lean on when an opponent manages to block it all. Lei wants you to watch yourself lose, Xiao wants you to beat yourself up. Which sounds more like the characters Jackie Chan plays in his films? One can say a mix of both, but most of his opponents lost because they threw the first punch.
Good points, but I think having his opponents beat themselves up is usually in fight scenes involving Jackie vs 5+ people. Most of his 1v1 fights have him crazy mixup games like Lei. But like you said, its a mix especially with his newer films, he fights more like Xiaoyu now being old and all.
I forgot about that stance, but I think I might’ve forgotten about it since it’s like you said, very unlike to appear in this game due to its sidestepping nature.
Sounds reasonable enough, Southeasternoil.
Yes, it is a very easy stance to forget about even in Tekken, because the Tekken Team has not added enough attacks to it despite it being its own Chinese martial art (search: “bagua” on YouTube).
I take kung-fu now (primarily in monkey and doing luo han as well) and I’ve seen the stance before by the others that are learning Bagua.
Which style does Xiaoyu use mostly? Is it Long Fist?
I cant believe how fast she is. She is not going to have good damage output
So long as she’s not subject to El Fuerte’s problem of being high risk : low reward, she should be fine.
Tried her out last night. She seems really awkward to play but I tired my best. Overall, her normals seem pretty bad and her specials are pretty gimmicky. Her jump normals are pretty bad except for j.hk, which is similar to a dive kick arc.
Off the top of my head movelist.
s.hp = 1+2 from tekken games. Pretty good poke.
she has her f+3,1 but I can’t remember the command for it. Might have been b+lk, lp.
f+hk is her u/f+4 and it ground bounces as a combo starter. Also an overhead.
qcf+p = x marks the spot move.
qcb+p = lp version kind of like her d/b + 1 without the range. The other versions end in backstance.
qcf+k is her demon flip and you can press kick again to do a dive kick follow up.
During backstance, Hk will do a launcher then press any punch will do an automatic 3 hit combo follow up (looks like her backstance 2,1,4 )
She has her crouching stance aka art of phoenix stance but I didn’t get to try it much. I THINK it’s 3 kicks to do it. You can press a punch to do a launcher. Might be an interesting move to see if it ducks under fireball.
A friend of mines recorded one match. Not a lot of Xiaoyu gameplay but it’s something.

oooooh xiayou has a demon flip!? I’m trying this girl out!
Do you remember the input for Fortune Cookie?
Well, A partial movelist has been released.
Fortune Cookie - qcf+high punch
Shooting Star - qcf+kick
Back layout (during Raindance aka backstance) - qcb+kick
Hakkesho (chargable) - qcb+punch
(Super move) Hakkesho Combo - qcf+all three punches
