Limited by Characters I Enjoy Playing

I’ve tried Dorm/Doom missiles, and while FChamp has proven it to be a successful combination, it’s hard to get the ball rolling against teams that rush down and lock you in the corner. Dormammu’s normals are too slow to compete with Wolverine or Wesker, and Missiles isn’t going to be getting anyone off your back any time soon. Once you get some steam going with the Dorm + Doom combo, though, it’s pretty devastating. But, as Brightside said, Spidey dies early a lot, and since you’ll likely die early in the corner against a point character with nasty incoming mixups, Dormammu’s big ol’ self might not be the best choice.

I really, really like Dormammu as a second character, but he is a bit big and slow, which can hurt you against shenanigans with lots of instant overheads. Still, he helps Spidey a lot in numerous ways, and Dark Hole is surprisingly good lockdown when you get the spacing right.

I like the team overall, and I play it myself from time to time, for what it’s worth.

Hawkeye presents some interesting opportunities for Spidey, especially with midscreen Web Throw extensions (Violent Fizz assist) and Triple Arrow is very fast and can frustrate full screen pressure.

Never use Fizz assist unless you have a better neutral assist or if you’re very confident with your Spidey’s neutral.

At the moment and imo, the following are the best neutrals for Spidey.

Unibeam > Bolts > Triple Arrow

Drones, Plasma and Tasky arrows are good too but these three are better imo. The problem with the three compared to the lesser assists is the character they’re attached to. The current meta of Marvel imo though, revolves more around the first two characters doing work with less need for anchor comebacks except for some significant anchors like Vergil, Strider and DP. This is the reason why I think that although a strong anchor is definitely a plus, two characters with a well suited assist (most likely a Doom one) is more reliable and effective. This is why most teams have Doom as their anchor since he’s got really good support despite his lack of a strong XF3 comeback potential compared to the ones previously mentioned.

Feels a bit like MvC2 to me.

I never understood why people always put Task arrows under Hawkeye’s when the only thing they do better is travel faster. At least with Task arrows you get horizontal coverage, combo extensions, and tick throw setups that Spidey can pick up off midscreen and corner thus adding to his already linear gameplay. In any case Brightside is right and it’s the same stuff I’ve been saying about Spidey/Dorm/Doom. The main problem as far as Spidey goes is that everyone is trying to play the same way when it comes to approaching which isn’t the issue at all. Spidey can approach no problem, it’s putting the opponent in situations where they are forced to block or react in a certain way that puts Spidey at the advantage that’s the problem.

Being faster is exactly the reason why it’s better. Spidey lacks a fast projectile with a decent amount of active frames to compliment his momentum as he rushes down. It also works well against counter assist calls, long active assists and is harder to react to from blind assist calls.

That’s not enough in my opinion. Tasks arrows aren’t that slow to once they are out there and have more durability and block stun. It still loses to beams all the same and only beats them in situations where beam probably shouldn’t have been called to begin with. Now if more people were plink dashing and demonstrating ground control more then I could see arrows as being stronger

I blame it on Airborne… shrug

Tasky arrows come out 11 frames much slower, which is very significant if you ask me, especially if you want to gain ground in a neutral battle. Tasky’s arrows aren’t slow but the 11 more frames he needs to get them out make him easier to avoid and to punish.

I am judging both Hawk’s vs Tasky’s arrow assists as they are and their impact on Spidey’s neutral, not how they are used by players. It’s up to the players to take advantage and cover up the strengths and flaws of their assists.

Doom has great comeback potential but that’s besides the point.

As far as task vs hawk goes I would say task is the better choice. Slow, high durability projectiles are more advantageous to rush down then their faster moving counter-parts.

I guess it’s a matter of preference. I’d rather back up and hit confirm a projectile hit than put pressure with projectile back up.

There’s nothing wrong with that its just given a scenario, if you pressure after an assist you have to worry about making said assist safe for one and two once you are in there you’re now in there without backup in the event that they block. On the other hand when you’re in there you can call your assist to cover up a weak area and attempt again or back back safely.

Obviously that’s looking at it in its simplest form. Given the flow of matches this never plays out cleanly like this.

I blame it on Airborne… shrug

Same can be said with this since Spidey isn’t the easiest of characters to get a good rush down started. It all boils down to play style.

On paper though, Hawk Arrows > Tasky’s because of the 11 frame start up difference. Both assist projectiles fly at the around the same speed anyway which means you can just delay the assist call and still have a similar effect.

I pretty much agree with you on most of this and I used to use a similar team- Spidey/Doom/Ammy. No horizontal control, gets to lock down if you enter correctly, excellent 2 person shell behind that can go it alone when Spidey dies.

I dropped that team because I felt that I was going nowhere fighting Morri/Doom with it. My spidey couldn’t get in on Morrigan at all, much less get in while forcing her to block Ammy. Hence, I decided to look for alternate teams with horizontal control- Spidey/Skrull/Doom (beam) and Spidey/Doom/Strange (Bolts).

Now, I’m considering trying Spidey/Doom/Ammy again, since I’ve been working ón my plink dashing recently, and I now think it might be possible to get in on Morrigan even without a horizontal assist, if you find the right spot to plink dash. But if I’m going to play Spidey without a horizontal assist, then maybe I should go Spidey/Dorm Doom instead. So I’m curious- do you think Spidey/Dorm/Doom is superior to Spidey/Doom/Ammy. If so, why?
