Lightning strikes twice! (and even more in a vortex) - Season 2 matchups thread

If Laura had a non-CH medium> medium conversion as well as st mk, maybe it would be too much then, but not now.

It’s not like st mk is neutral or positive on block, or links to itself non CH.

I see people jabbing me after a blocked MK for a while now. Like anything with Laura, it’s a move that puts you in a great situation when it hits but stops your pressure game completely when it’s blocked. Don’t see a problem with it really, it’s just kind of a short-range version of LP Bolt in terms of usability.

Also, 801 Strider vs. PR Balrog on the front page:

Haven’t seen anything from Strider in SFV really but Laura seems to be the right choice for him. I was really impressed by his defense in this set. And also by PR Balrog’s perfectly timed Dash Punch right through a dissipating Clap.

Strider was an Abel main, I wonder why it took him so long to swap to Laura.
Also is literally everyone using the white variant of the Xmas outfit lol? ('cause sure I do)

I only use the default colour because every other option doesn’t have the black boots.

Dark pink or maroon >

lmao at people who complain about Laura in s2… its not like her gameplan changes… you can still keep her out with long ass pokes and solid defence.

I vsed one of the strongest Lauras in Aus on Saturday and went 50/50 with him… with fkn Ryu LOL.

Setups are so important to being a strong Laura but I think its more about perfect defence IMO.

Aye are there any tips on beating Ken with Laura? Fk me that MU seems difficult idk why… I get mauled by offence…

I so agree. So many characters have all the tools to keep Laura out and shut her down.

I think spacing is the key to beating Ken. Trying your damndest to avoid getting cornered (good luck) and punishing any unsafe advances like runs/air tatsus is your best hope. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat on a life lead only to get ex Shoryukened >v skill canceled into the corner into death.

care to elaborate please?

This is a good example

And suddenly my pants are tight.

Yeah I also made a short video regarding these gimmicks back in s1

The thing is that most decent players are ready with the quick rise by now. You might be able to get away with it once in a longer set, but there is no point trying to go for it often. Even if many people fall for it in online matches, it is not a good habit to learn.

However, I have to say that when I played top Japanese players Paris and the one time I went for an empty ex.clap mixup…my opponent didn’t quick rise and I won the game. So just keep it in your pocket and throw it out there once in a while.

Bit of help my Laura mainers, so what exactly is our frame advantage when we do the lp bolt on wake up if the opponent blocks it? I mean I know I can do it but idk the numerical advantage/disadvantage.

-1 on a regular command grab, +1 on a VT/EX command grab

if I VSF off a st.mk on hit am I advantage or disadvantage? Would’ve tested it myself but don’t have the game at home…

-1 on hit, +1 on CH

I know its day one, but any thoughts on the Ed matchup? He so far doesn’t seem to be that much of a problem.

I just opened a thread about that
