What frame traps do you guys do after a neutral safe jump off of light ruffian. In the sagat matchup for instance I like to get the untechable knowdwon over damage so I can stay in close range. But after a jump I usually like doing delayed fierce to open people up after jumping in. But after neutral jump off of lk ruffian, the pushback of neural j.HP makes fs.HP come out so I can’t continue a counter hit combo.

fMP would give you the same CH game as clHP though with less damage/stun.

I have a Vega buddy of mine, who after the 2nd tick normal mashes back dash (so like, I do cr. LP > cr. LP > THEN he back dashes). He’s actually not the first person I’ve played that does something like this, and I kinda want to know how to blow it up.

I can’t OS sweep because he’s too far after the second cr. LP between the pushback and his amazing back dash. Any tips on what to do? I can’t really replicate it in the lab, so here I am :stuck_out_tongue:

Tried OSing off of far s.lk? Not sure if either mRK or exRK is fast enough to catch him but worth a try. I also think it’s worth just doing stuff to discourage him from doing it i.e. if you think you have the read then forget trying to be safe with option selects and just do c.lp c.lp lRK or c.lp c.lp exZK.

^ Yeah, I do the ex Zonk thing, but I hate doing it because it’s such unsafe play if I don’t have 3 bars, even if it works, ya know? I was hoping for a safer option.

OSing off far st. LK might work. I’ll have to test it in the lab when I am done running errands.

Any other ideas?

A crack kick or forward dash or forward jump after two cr.lp, though i’m unsure who recovers first Vega or Cody in this instance, if not a punish maybe enough to keep pressure? Where is Eternal lol.

Did you try OS crMK or OS sHK? Or chain cancel the crLP to far LK? Those might work.

cr. LP > cr. LP > st. far LK (OS MK Ruffian) is too slow unfortunately. I guess it’s just a matter of making the right read.

Are you playing him offline or online? This Vega I play offline almost always mashes backdash or something when I pressure him, I can hear it so I just crack it and it blows him up. Vega players love to backdash lol.

Nah, it’s online, but again, he’s not the first player I’ve run into with this, so I want to know how to deal with it.

It’s been a while since I posted any tech since I’ve been developing SSF4:X for the last month or so. I’ve got something new(ish) in store.

Also in testing this I found it IS possible to do a kara - Zonk but damn if the timing isn’t super hard to get down since you need to press sMK then release Zonk 1F later so you can’t plink it like you would with other specials. However the sMK - whiff kara - Zonk is very easy.

This also works with Cody’s throw and simply by holding forward. So if you do far MK (whiff) - Hold forward - Kara throw it’s pretty far reaching.

Apparently the massively reduced recovery on Cody’s level 2 / 3 HP Badstone was known since quote “day 1” according to spooky.

Had anyone here heard of it before I posted my video last year?

Why exactly do people prefer Ultra 2 over Ultra 1?

Cody can do a lot of damage without ultra. Most Ultra 1 setups require 2 or 3 bars which doesn’t add that much extra damage and Isn’t a good use of meter imo. Ultra 2 can be linked from normals on counter hit which doesn’t require meter and does a ton of damage. Also Ultra 2 is more versatile. It can shut down fireballs, use as a fast anti air when opponent is on low health, and can be used as a true blockstring from EX rocks for easy chip KOs. I only use Ultra 1 when I can land it without any meter (after a blocked EX messiah from rufus or react to adon’s jaguar kick) or if I know I’m going to need to aa a lot with ruffian (twins).

Thanks Canadian_sk8ter! One more question. Regarding his Zonk, is it necessary to always be holding down a punch so that I can use it when necessary or it’s more of a decision type of thing in the heart of battle?
