Lets End This! the MvC3 X-23 Combo/Strategy Thread

Wouldn’t you be able to cancel a cross over counter on the first frame of entry with an invinvible super? The way sentinel does with hard drive. I mean obviously its going to be harder, but it should still be doable. Right?

And on that note, is it possible to cancel cross over counters into specials or only into supers

Usually, you can cancel the CC into whatever the corresponding special move can be cancelled into, or directly into an air super. For example, you can cancel x-23’s CS crossover into a talon dive. Not sure if you can cancel it into Rage trigger, but if you could, you’d be invincible the entire time.

Well my idea was that just like how sent can cross over and hard drive before he touches the ground.

For laura I would try to cross over and talon dive before she even touches the ground. And if that works you could do it no matter which assist you picked… Since I’m kind of reliant on her otg atm.

That’s actually a really cool thought. The only thing I would say is the CS wouldn’t have the full invincibility that the crossover counter does so you wouldn’t be able to counter-punish supers and whatnot (I think you would have invincibility up until the start of the CS if it’s even possible). I have yet to find some amazing use for the CS assist outside of the alpha counter (really nice against derpy Trish Round Harvest unblockable setups, though.)

I’ve tried to consistently follow up after a crossover counter CS, but it just isn’t working out. Especially if the move you’re countering is something that advances forward (like Cap Charging Star or Frank Shopping Cart) the crossover doesn’t even connect with the opponent, it just gets X-23 in safely.

I’ve been in the lab pass few days working on safety drills, just gotta learn to stop getting punished for every little thing. I use the wall jump a lot more frequent now and put some her M pokes to use. My hope is that I can unlearn throwing out her S which has an insane amount of lag on block, and improve my approach patterns better (charged neck slicer, wave dash, etc.) instead of just taloning in.

Yeah. I would try to make a habit of going into either MF H or finding an assist+MF M that will combo after a LMH or whatever your go to hit-confirm is. I think it’s a pretty easy habit to get into since most of the time you want to go into an extended combo anyways. I’m trying to unlearn going directly into H with her so I can try using the stair relaunch as my BnB. It’s turning out harder than I expected…stupid muscle memory. >.>

Edit: Of course the holy grail would be going into MFC H…but really…who does that aside from DJ? Overachiever…

Yeah so I just picked up the cutie X-23, any basic advice in gettin’ to know how to play her?

We just started getting her all-in-one guide up and running so it’s a bit sparse at the moment but there are some links to DevilJin’s tutorial series as well as Maximillian’s Assist Me vids in the combo/strategy section. It’s the “Penultimate X-23 Thread”. It should be getting updated almost daily so just keep checking back. She really didn’t change all that much from vanilla so most of the advice you can find out and about still applies. For the most part, reading through this and the video threads should help get up up to speed on what we’ve found for her in UMVC3 since we’ve been using those 2 as the main threads.

Just a heads up before you get started…you’re gonna die a lot when you’re just starting out with her but she is a really rewarding character once you get used to her. Hope you stick around and welcome to the forums. :smiley:

Any hints on hitting the timing of Laura’s ankle slice for OTG? I cannot get it for the life of me.

To clarify, she is on point.

It’s pretty easy as long as you know the right aerial combo to get you back to the ground as fast as possible/practice. Try this combo after launching the opponent airborne: j.M + j.M + j.H + qcf.L + land then use ankle slice(full charged), make sure to time it to start charging the minute you land.

When I first started using her, I didn’t realize that you had to charge ankle slice the whole way. Have you tried that?

In the beta builds, you didn’t have to. Most of the early guides say not to charge it completely XD

I’ve been adding a srk.L before the qcf.L. I think my problem is not fully charging it the moment I land.

I had a little more luck with it last night. I’ll take it to The Lab and give it another go.

Ohh yeaaah, I use that to. Though I use srk.H which it only lets me connect qcf.L sometimes which I always wondered why so now I know i should use srk.L, thanks lol.

Anyways you’ll get it! just practice, I could pull it off easily 'cause of all the practice with Phoenix Wright’s Aeiral Combo + land + Order in the Court! and others, aha :3

Crescent Scythe :h: gives enough hitstun to almost always follow it up with a TA :l: in air combos, in my experience. Sometimes you will have to wait for them to drop back down just a bit before it will connect, though. As far as the OTG by itself I don’t have a lot of advice…you will almost always want to use TA :l: for the hard knockdown (as opposed to :s:) since it puts you on the ground fast enough to use ankle slice, past that, it’s just a matter of starting the Ankle Slice ASAP when you land.

Once you get into her ankle slicer+Assist relaunch options, if you run X-23 with an otg assist (which helps her overall game) you’ll want to land call the otg assist and start charging a neck slicer instead. It’s more lenient than the ankle slice+assist option where you have to call the assist while you’re pressing the :d: on the :qcf: :l:.

H SC> L Talon misses randomly on some characters mid-screen. like Wolvie, Storm, Akuma, Tron, RR… in general characters with small/funky hitboxes. its definitely possible but the timing on it a bit tigher and I’ve lost games coz that shit missed or they magically teleport behind me after the H SC…
I’ve also had occasions where the L talon would hit but I wont get the flying screen and they’d stay at the top the screen while I’m diving fullspeed downwards, pisses me off so much LOL.

I’ve noticed midscreen misses too. Sometimes you can quickly dash a little and then do the ankle slice. Not enough time for a full dash, but enough for the ankle slice to connect.

As far as H Crescent Scyth to L Talon, I was very frustrated at a match against Tronne because I’d cancel it too early and whiffing the Talon. For her (and I’m assuming a few others), you have to wait a little longer before doing the L Talon. Anybody notice this with other characters?
