I seem to have a lot of problems when fighting a steve. They just bulldog me with punches the whole round and then combo my life away. Even when I parry, if feels like I push them too far away with the parry to really do anything
Against a good Steve, space him out with 1,4 and 2,1. Magic 4 is amazing if you can nail him with it too. Off of a magic 4, you can net db2,2 > f4 > df3,2,1. If you smell a high jab string coming your way (or a B+1), beat it out with df2+3 or db4,1. You’re not going to win the jab war if he’s in your face. Sometimes a well-placed d+4,2 will beat him on the approach, but that’s something of a gamble.
If you’re parrying his punches, you should be going for b1+2. Press 2,2 on parry and you’ll knock him away. I don’t remember if the b1+3_2+4 parry gives anything for free…and ub1 is useless against him.
uf4 doesn’t save you here much either, since it’s jab punishable and Steve hardly ever sweeps you.
Just try to be patient and look for patterns.
