"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

aw… I was all excited. the scrub just couldn’t block low…

Always be suspicious of infinites that don’t make the combo meter go up :wink:

I have fun with this and doing resets, I’m always afraid to try it though, since every normal is so bad in Crane.

That was so sad.

Hey, guys. Long time lurker, first time poster. I’m trying to take steps toward improving my Gen and figured it might be useful to get some advice from the players that know the character best. I’ve uploaded a couple of the fights where I was outmaneuvered, I was hoping you might be able to take a look and point out some of the things I’m doing wrong.

Fewer rolls, fewer ogas and dont do the © c.HK as often. Maybe work on capitalising the damage off of your successful jump-ins with something like c.lk -> c.lp -> s.mp -> s.mk xx hands. This is of course, just what people have told me, and what I am guilty of myself.

I was sick with the flu so I wasn’t paying attention.

Plus I didn’t think it was an infinite. I thought it was an unblockable.

Successful jump-in follow ups:
(Mantis)S.mp->S.mk->Lk Gekiro.
(Mantis)S.mp->(Crane)cr.mp->lp/ex roll if far or hp roll if deep.
(Mantis)S.hp->Hk Gekiro. (This is character specific, but it’s the best non-meter followup besides roll combos. Just not a good hit confirm, so make sure it’s a punish)

I’d only cr.lk->cr.lp etc if they don’t get hit by the crossups. I almost always land and use S.mp to start combos or blockstrings, personally.

is this AE?

All that stuff works in SSFIV.

In AE, your follow up should depend on whether you cross up or not. I’m still experimenting and getting questions about combos, but it’s not too much different:

Target Combo 2: Mantis S.hp->S.mk

Non-Cross up:
S.mp-> TC2 -> Gekiro
S.mp-> TC2 -> Hands -> FADC… or super
S.mp-> (Crane) C.mp -> Rolls

In all cases, use S.mp to hit confirm. Although there’s no access to stun and damage info without a training mode, the new TC 2 has better damage output and meter building than roll combos in SSFIV. This from is eyeballing and comparing a limited number of pictures. If your S.mp happens to be blocked and your opponent doesn’t have a 3 frame or faster reversal, I’d recommend using the standard roll string for building meter and getting chip damage in.

For Cross-Up Jump in:

TC2 -> Gekiro
TC2 -> Hands -> FADC… or super

The reason you don’t s.mp here is because of Gen’s weird jump arc. You have to hit the opponent super deep in order to land the S.mp->TC2… so you’ll only get the second hit of the S.hp and drop the TC (and probably get punished). Attempting to start with S.mp works on some fat characters and if your cross up is very meaty, but I’d rather just start with TC and hit confirm the Gekiro or push them back with hands on block.

Still no use for TC1 though, aside from mixing it into frame trap strings. These are just my observations so far. There might be additional combos with EX Hands -> S.HK, but I haven’t tested it out yet.

@Katzenklavier: Nice Avatar!

Very nice, especially the use of FADC combos! I’m too shook to use roll against grapplers though - if blocked they often mash spd and get a knockdown. That Gief didn’t know how to utilize his knockdowns at all, luckily… Also, don’t forget backthrow into hk oga crossup against Sagat. If you’re gonna use U2 in every matchup, don’t forget about Shitenketsu as a wakeup option when you see your opponent try to do something.

But yeah, I’d really like to have those FADC combos down… I need more practise I guess!

We had a single elimination tournament going on the stream and came across an interesting matchup in the brackets. Going to post up the pairings with Redwolfx (Gen) vs o_l2ambo_o (Sagat) aka brother vs brother.

RedWolfx (Gen) Vs o_l2ambo_o (Sagat) - Part 1
RedWolfx (Gen) Vs 0_l2ambo_o (Sagat) - Part 2

Please feel free to leave your comments/criticism on the matchup!

Those FADC combos are so nice. Makes me sad that they don’t do that much damage.
