"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

I only saw the first match…
Yeah, you’re not backdashing like you used to, but you’re also not improving your approach game, and your punish.
I noted that most of your combos were either a mixture of cr.lp’s and st.mp xx st.mk xx hands.
which perfectly does a good 200dmg, but I honestly think you can punish better than that.

Here’s what I noted:
your first hit on him was cr.mp, which is a really good poke. I usually like to follow that move up with hands because honestly, you can’t really follow that move up with anything else (you can follow up with Geriko, but you were nowhere near him to be able to land it), so if you can get those hands in, it’s usually best to get in that extra damage since Gen’s hitbox will return to it’s normal position after the cr.mp hits, so might as well get those hands in.
@0:23, you landed a nice (crane) j.hp, and followed it up with mk-hands. Good, but you could have done better. I personally like to simply just punish with (mantis)st.hp xx hk-geriko (it’s character specific, and I THINK it can punish Fei-long), but yeah, you could have done a more damaging combo there. You can train yourself to punish with maximum damage over time, just letting you know that you could have gotten more damage in.
– You’re too eager to reversal, and @1:07, you messed up a perfectly punish. Always keep in mind what’s the quickest, and most effective way to deal damage: st.hp xx geriko!! (if you don’t have crane charge to do the roll). Either way, it does about the same damage…
– Again, @1:16, you failed to punish with your maximum potential.
@1:30, there goes your habits of trying to land a maximum damage combo. and Fei-long could have punished too lol… You can’t be doing that, man.
– Other than that, good use of spacing in the 2nd round.
@2:11, you landed a nice string of light pokes and what not, but you didn’t follow it up with anything =/ Something better to have done would have been (mantis) cr.lk, cr.lp, st.mp xx lk-geriko. It does mediocre 200 damage, but at least then it’s a perfectly good punish in that situation =]
@2:30, you went in with the same combo, and this time got lucky by landing it, and what’s bad was that you didn’t do the maximum damage, I think you use the medium roll or something…
– Follow-up to that combo was really gimmicky, but it works lol
– 2:38, very eager to reversal, come’on man!
– and talk about a clutch finish, wow… lol

Good stuff, man. Luck and a handful of skill is on your side =]

– Keep your punishes simple, and keep in mind the combos that are possible off of (mantis) cr.lk

Nice videos something i started to use… two crane low short in a row brings your opponent in perfect distance for a cross-up ogas…might have to use foward oga on some tall characters but short version works on mostly every character. it will on Ibuki and some other small characters but those characters already have setups…

in addition to that you can get a crossup oga from a blocked jump in, crjabxxxhands to the opponents wall. you can vary the distance and spacing by adding more jabs before the hands

That was supposed to be a Gekiro kick.

King nash you should jump less, i know that in your video’s your jumping payed off, but in higher tier play people are going to eat you alive, Im not saying dont jump just be selective of when to do it.

Tha messia, Thank you for your video of mk~hands it help me alot, mainly with not grinding my cuticles to bloody nubs. But i have a question, when you fadc hands, do you go c.lp or c.lk first I’m pretty sure im just having a timing issue with it but i want to make sure.

Anyways this is my first post in the gen forums even though ive been reading them for like a year and a half, I plan on posting more and maybe picking up a capture card so i can post video’s of my play.

Btw in the matter of capture whats the average price, and is there anything i should know about them before i purchase one?

i’ve used two things for capturing. one is a dazzle dvc100 usb device. it’s probably only 49$ usd. best thing to do is get a s-video cable for it. i would recommend getting a 3rd party or one that had svideo AND A/V why? because you can have video to your tv and svideo with sound to your capture device, that’s the best way to record combos or tricks you find out. if you try to do combos by looking at your computer screen there is a delay. it wont look pretty on the tv but works well. or if you are just recording matches you only need to use the svideo to your tv.

the one i use now is a avertv hd dvr. it’s a PCIE (so you need at least a x1 PCI"E" slot. it will not work on pci. note, you can use it in ANY PCIE slot, I have it in my spare 8x PCIE.) this card is really good for the price. You can pick it up at ncix.com for like 100.

as for the other stuff, your welcome. i’m going to be posting more stuff like how i hold the stick, what button config, and tips n tricks etc. When I FADC do you mean what am I following up after the FADC? well i’m using c.LK. In most cases I use s.MP. but in these I go c.LK THEN c.LP, s.MP

very nice gen in those two videos but why ultra 2?

messing around with them. I like Ultra 2 vs fireball characters best. Especially Gouken. It goes through his upward fireball.

I know this is an old post but it brings up a question I’ve had for a while~

I just learned how to mk~Hands using jibbo’s method but it was made easy by having a first mp to give you time to buffer 2 or 3 punches. When people on these forums mention “Mk~Hands”, is the MP just implied or is actually possible to buffer 5 punches within a single mk?

usually MK hands mean just MK hands. not MP, MK Hands. MK Hands is used for poke reasons, as MP is more of a reversal or counter hit normal. In some cases it is a poke but only when they are really close. It is possible to use Just MK hands no MP before. You just have to piano fast.

Sorry if this wasn’t what you were talking about but that’s how I took it

That’s exactly what I meant, thank you

Looks like I have a lot more training to do~

edit: now I’m assuming I don’t see a lot of mk~hands in recent vids because of the latter’s pushback? So how useful is it really to learn at this point?

MK hands is amazing vs Focus Attack style players or keeping them out and giving them some damage. If you look at some characters pokes are part of their game, but don’t have too many options after, other than using it as a hit confirm into super. Like Bison and Chun-Li. But Gen can use some of his best pokes to setup more damage even if he doesn’t have meter. What you might be seeing is a lack of hands after MK has been blocked. If I’m trying to get in and I notice a opening to jump in or dash in, and I perform MK sometimes I won’t finish with Hands that way I don’t get pushed out and have to start all over again. especially vs good zoning characters or a player that I worked so hard to get in on,

This is probably one of the best MK ONLY to hands video.

I use the slide method to do mk hands. Its different to the normal slide method, i remeber trying to explain it on here a while back. so last night i thought i’d do a vid… so check it out.

Stop doing mk> Gekiro that shit is mad dangerous to do. At least try to hitconfirm it more.

ya man, MK Gekiro is super bad as a poke hit confirm. You will get punished all day long. If you can’t do MK hands. Just use his pokes as pokes. Mantis s.LP (mainly for baiting), c.MP, c.MK, s.MK, c.HP, s.HK and sweep (depending on character) Crane c.LP, c.MP, and c.MK once in a while. You would be a lot better off using his pokes and trading then having them block your MK into Gekiro so they can punish you after.

KEYSTONE II - Part 1, KEYSTONE II - Part 1 iplaywinner on USTREAM. Gaming Entertainment

This was at this public Keystone thing yesterday

I was really hesitant to post this but I am going to anyway, this was my first match that day and honestly I was just playing stupid AND I could’ve won, I honestly can look at this video and say whatever I did wrong and whatnot

I was then sent into the loser’s bracket BUT took out a Viper, Crackfiend, a Gen/Honda, and Illiterate, then lost to Gootecks. Won all those with Gen (except that Honda, I lost with Gen then chose Honda and won :] )

Btw; If you guys don’t know who Crackfiend and Illiterate are, they’re very well known for their Boxers, the two are my homies and probably the best Boxers in NorCal :]
