"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

nkn’s dedication reminds me a lot of asiantom a year ago. Props for sticking to Gen and best of luck with him!

Thanks man. He’s actually not that bad if you know how to use him.

yea but alot better and passing on alot more information, thats for damn sure. I can see him doing some big things with Gen and its cool cause not really anyone does so he is a pioneer. The quality of his vids is great too. Once there are more tournies going on near him and he is just on fire someday, he could put some dmg output with Gen.

The thing is, Gen is probably gonna stay in the street fighter series cause his design and moves are truly unique and people use him enough to keep him around so he will only get better and better when we show Capcom what we can do with him so they can improve him.

/facepalm xD

i’d rather have the “unimproved” gen back

Well I’m not here to compare myself to anyone by any means. Asiantom was one of the Gen’s I looked up to, I loved watching his videos. And if it wasn’t for him and a few others, Especially Rhyllis, I dunno where my Gen would be. I appreciate the compliment that totally makes me feel like sticking with Gen was a good choice.

The way I look at it, is that I would’ve had to learn a new character anyways, might as well stick with the old dog I knew already. I think people are still stuck on his old tricks and need to get into his new stuff which is pretty effective. But that’s it for that, I don’t want to start another damn argument about nerf/buff/sucks/doesn’t suck…

I’m not looking for fame or anything really. I just wanted to be a part of the Gen community and there are some pretty interesting people on here, so it’s kept me coming back and want to give more. I’m glad to help anyone, I don’t think I’m godlike or one of the best Gen’s ever, but I do feel I have enough to analyze peoples game and help them out.

Thanks Rez for the compliments.

Dude, im looking into the future, not the past. The more people that play Gen the better. I saw someone playing a Gen at a tourney on that “Guile owns all” video if you look closely around the beginning of the tourney. It didn’t show the whole match, but it was cool

yeah that’s what i mean^^ IF capcom “improve” gen any further, he’ll have his battle to death.

anyway. even tho there are very rar gen players around online and in the forum - our forum is ALOT more active than the ones of the other characters (only following cody’s tho). even our stickies are way better than the most,

i think that “only a few left” build’s up an even closer community.

Actually I’m kind of glad this Gen Forum isn’t super busy. Imagine how many Gen sucks now threads we’d have. Zukuu is right it seems like a closer community, i like that.

yea i post more in gen forum then i do ibuki or honda because it although it small we seem have more discussion then the other characters forums. plus i still love playing gen so anything we find out it always good for me to note.

Cool combo video, I must say. That FADC combo always makes me burn up.

Btw, was cross-up j.MK -> mantis s.MP -> crane c.MP xx Roll xx EXFA supposed to be a frametrap combo? Cuz as far as I can see j.MK and s.MP didn’t get registered as a combo hit.

I didn’t know Ryu could be that jumpy lol. Great matches, I especially liked your FADC combo and blocked crane c.LP -> c.MP poke. I gotta add that to my arsenal.

Thanks bud. Ya c.LP pushes them back and can force them to walk forward or poke etc… c.MP is better than I thought. I’ve been using it a lot more. But I’m still getting used to it because I’ve been jumped in on and didn’t have enough time to react. Still working on it though.

You really need to take advantage of Gen’s good pokes and use some of his footsies. Everything else seems fine, but you almost never advance without jumping in. I only had watched your Geif vid and thought it was just cause its geif but now I see it’s against pretty much everyone.

People with good reaction time aren’t gonna let you jump in all day, mk, c.hp, sweep in mantis all have very good range, everything else seems fine, but yeah, you really gotta learn gens footsies cause he can beat most characters in that area besides one’s like chun and bison.

Also more pressure on knockdowns, you get too scared of SRK’s which I know I feel the same sometimes but mp is a strong meaty attack, you can pressure well with that and if the ryu wants to mash on wakeup, let him mash and just block and punish. Lot of online srk characters get in a very weak pattern of wakeup srk then block, then srk, then block pretty brain dead patterns.

Not sure if it’s critique your looking for and sorry if it pisses you off, just thought I’d offer some advice, even though I abandoned Gen early in super, I played him all throughout vanilla and I still win with a lot of these same tools. Even against characters like zangief you can pressure more. You’d be surprised how many fall for walk up throws or even throwing them on their wakeup. Or you can do a mix of throw them on their wakeup or walk up and instant overhead with a jump away mk in mantis or mp in crane. Same goes for jump ins if the guys spd happy, jump in and instantly jump out with an instant overhead.

I’m good at taking Criticism, as long as you aren’t ignorant saying I suck and should give up Gen :stuck_out_tongue: We all gotta start some where. But thanks, I know this is what I need to work on but having people tell me makes it better to drive into me.

So here is my first match where I’m really fighting with myself not to jump. I jumped two times where I shouldn’t have. But this way better and less than what I’ve been doing. I think the reason I still jump too much is the fact his Jump arc was godlike and keep forgetting it’s different. So anyways, I did my best to stay grounded when I had to. Not saying this video is godlike, but felt it was an improvement.

I barely play ElF. I’ve played a total of like 10 in the existence of this character. I used to play very well vs him, but his run game is a lot better. and I still have trouble wake up Focus Attack online. I need to start watching Gen’s wake up animation and find out where is his sweet spot, cuz I try to do it and leave myself open when I fail.

Elf makes me want to tiger knee my tv screen sometimes, there is a local guy here who is too good with him and it pisses me off just thinking about it LOL. I actually thought about maning Elf for a while since Super came out, but I just cannot do RSF for the life of me even after hours of practice. Nice comeback, I think you figured him out quickly because he had some pretty obvious patterns like run stop leg throw everytime out of nowhere etc.

Yeah, this post is pretty useless.

You did really good against that El Fuerte, and I feel the same way too. Sometimes it’s so frustrating, because no matter how well informed you are about El Fuerte’s Strategy, you only have a 25% chance of guessing right about which Habanero Dash he’ll use (He has 4 that does damage) and it’s impossible to tell since there’s no Skill Variation hint during the Dash. It’s a huge game of luck, especially since Gen’s wakeup is horrible, as well as his extremely limited defense when a Fighter is overwhelming him.
