That’s not accounting for distance. Mika loses that advantage if she dashes forward to get at a range where she is a threat. Her only normal throw that leaves her at adv after dashing forward is the one she does when the opponent is crouching.
Original post made no mention of her doing an additional dash, so I assumed that’s what he meant. You’re not wrong about her being plus after crouching throw after a dash. She’s at +12 in that scenario to be exact.
Am I the only person that think Laura beats Nash? 5-5 at worst… Or is my Nash training partner just having issues? I don’t know what to tell him about the match up.
He’s having issues. Nash beats her at LEAST 6-4. I lean more towards 7-3 as Laura suffers heavily against zoners. Your friend is not defending properly against you or he’s letting you get in. Simple way for him to win is to throw booms and backdash, then sonic scythe you as you jump in.
Maybe I’m playing crappy Nash players, but I think it’s 5-5. His normals are better and he has real block strings but lack of a 3 frame jab and no true reversal means he actually has to fear your mixups. If the Nash player is really, really lame the matchup is tough for sure but most are going to throw an unsafe boom eventually and with ex that’s a free knockdown.
Yeah you’ve been playing bad Nashs. Not a bad thing mind you, you’re lucky The way Nash keeps you out is not just with booms, but his godlike normals. Keep in mind 90% of what he does is safe AND you can’t punish it without bar. Everything just goes way too slow on our end. Couple that with possibly getting 2 V-triggers in 1 game and he gets out for free.
The way to beat him is basically what you said, however a good Nash KNOWS he has no 3 frame jab, so he wont resort to mashing. Truthfully a good Nash will rush you down because as we know Laura cannot handle pressure at all. If you’re playing super turtly Nash’s that could be why you’re winning. Try facing a Nash that actually mixes things up, plays defensively but then as soon as he sees you go in he goes offensive.
IDK man, I’m skeptical. I have a hard time believing it’s 7-3 Nash. I feel like Laura’s normals actually contend well against his. And I’m happy to get pressured by Nash because I don’t find it that strong and when my turn comes, he’ll be right in my face. He can’t throw booms once she gets a meter and all time spent trying to keep Laura out gets flushed down the toiler if he gets knocked down once. Also, her V-Reversal works amazingly in the MU, every jaguar kick: VR into free meaty st.mp every time.
While I think my partner isn’t playing the MU correctly, I still have a hard time seeing how Nash beats her 7-3. I’d believe 6-4, but I haven’t seen anything that says otherwise… sooo idk.
I see your points for sure and I don’t think it’s an easy matchup at all but I think as long as your defense is on point (block all strings, be on the lookout for overhead and random jaguar kicks) you are on an even playing field. I hardly ever tech in this match, I know its a weakness and I may eat a throw here and there but I’d rather be focused on punishing overheads and anti-airing jumps and jaguar kicks (forget what they’re actually called) because it puts you back in charge. Other keys are hoarding ex meter and predicting teleport when you see they have v-trigger. If I jump and pop them out of v-trigger even once they’re usually mindf#cked for the rest of the round.
I played a lot of Nashs, from the bad ones to the best ones, from the most defensive to the most offensive ones, and I pretty much agree with Tiers4Fears. The worst you can fear from Nash is a dash in and grab, which is really nothing compared to what he can do with some meter and V-Trigger. Once you’ve learned all his pressure strings and frame traps he’s not to fear anymore, and his air game is really easily punishable for Laura.
The lack of 3f jabs or invincible moves basically means that each time you hit him with a LP Elbow he’ll eat a command grab and good luck escaping from the KO situation without using that V-meter. This is definitely not one of her worst matchups.
Also I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence, but I noticed Nash players tend to quickrise and back jump/back dash a lot more than other characters. I’m guaranteed with 2 V-Skill overheads at least each time I knock them down.
Either you’re crazy or you just don’t know the match. I don’t fear Nash at all and Laura has answers for his v-reversal and trigger. If he’s getting out for free that’s your fault for not taking those options into consideration and baiting them. The match feels pretty even if anything. I’d much rather fight Nash than Ryu.
To be fair, 7-3 is my personal machup against him, hence why I said I personally lean towards that. In reality I feel it a 6-4 in his favor (for all players). If you can give me examples that don’t involve guessing, I’m all ears. Nash’s V-trigger is invincible frame 2, so your meaty timing must be EXACT to stop it. I’m not sure if you’re understanding the fact that its an invincible teleport. He can go into safe combos as he mixes you up. Again unless you’re reading/guessing he will TP, there is no way to stop it. Couple that with nromals that outrange you and its a rough match.
What exactly are her answers to Nash’s offensive options? If you can show me I’d gladly accept I’m wrong here. Keep in mind I want solid answers. Not “Oh well go for this 50/50 mixup and guess,” or “Anticipate a TP or boom here and do this.” I want to see where his stuff where it is punishable by Laura 100% of the time, because I’m not seeing it. If anything Laura gets FEWER reliable punishes due to weaker hitconfirms. If you can give me some solid answers I can probably up my game against him, because next to Karin he’s one of my weaker matchups. I do better against Chun’s than him. Maybe I just face really good Nashes? They RARELy go for anything unsafe.
Again, while this is great, you’re assuming you already got IN. I think my confusion lies in how to actually get IN on a properly booming/spacing Nash. Hell most of Laura’s matchups will go in her favor if she gets in. The trouble is getting in on a good Nash.
It sounds like you’re forgetting there aren’t infinite stages in Street Fighter. A run away Nash is just going to corner himself without V-trigger or V-reversal. And unlike Ryu, Laura can use fireballs in this match because of how slow and short they travel. The only means for Nash to gain V-gauge outside of taking damage is absorbing fireballs which isn’t going to happen in this match up. Laura’s s.LK and s.MK are still a tools of harassment at certain ranges with s.MK moving her forward. It sounds like your issue with this match is you don’t play patient enough. Unless the Nashes you’re up against are on some Infiltration level shit I don’t see how they are any better than some of the comp you can find online at the higher ranks to help with general match up experience at the very least.
Thanks for some of that info. Yes for simply run away Nash’s, I do know how to corner him and start up the Laura game. The issue lies in Keeping him there, because again, his V-trigger is invincible. He also can dash much faster so its easy for him to get out and play the footsie game. Again her s.MK for sure is great, but keep in mind Nash not only outreaches that normal but also beats it clean with many buttons. Out of curiosity what level rank are you playing at? Maybe I’m playing at too low of a level and its just not sinking in.
This is in my eyes the sign there’s something wrong in your experience with Nashes. The only Chuns I was able to beat consistently were those who forgot how to anti-air or to do EX SBK. As soon as they remember it’s nightmare time back again; and I’m talking even of low level Chuns.
Nash on the other hand has no reversal and must spend meter to make his fireballs safe. He’s almost the only character I can do j. MK and get some results. These two things alone make the game MUCH easier for a character like Laura who may struggle in footsies.
Take a look at some of the videos of Max Dood playing Nash pretty offensively. In one of them (I think it was called “Nash is triggered”) he played in the first match a Laura who literally beat him with just three buttons and a lot of patience. You barely need any gimmick in this matchup.
