-Cr MK range nerfed*
I honestly don’t even know how this is possible, since her cr. MK range was already nerfed from beta to season 1 to the point her foot extends pretty far past the hitbox. Or maybe the player didn’t know this and thought it was new?
*
-Overhead hits lows (I’ve heard reports that startup is faster as well) *
Sounds good, but I suspect this may come with an invisible nerf. Does it still hit people trying to jump?
*
-EX Clap hits more slowly, old vortex/dash mixups not possible but new ones are. *
I like this change in theory. Interested in knowing if it changes the guard advantage as well. Not even sure how you could change one without affecting the other.
*
-Some say forward walk speed is improved (unconfirmed)*
Hopefully this is an increase in her overall walk speed. It’d be nice to shimmy normally.
*
-Back throw loops no longer a thing (universal change) *
Meh. I always felt dirty doing this anyway.
*
-V-reversal pushes further out (universal change) *
On hit or on guard? On both?
*
-Cr LP now combos into LP elbow (Confirm from Cr. LK now possible) *
Biggest buff on the list so far. Being able to confirm cr. LK to cr. LP means I don’t have to settle for tiny damage if I don’t want to tick throw.
Also the last one would seem to imply that either cr. LP has more advantage or LP bolt has decreased startup. Probably the former.
The mixups won’t disappear but the timing is going to change drastically. Right now, after a non-VT-Trigger EX clap you can reset them them with st.MK, V-Skill dash for an easy meaty setup with st.MP. In V-Trigger, the timing for that is harder since you have to delay the MK a bit. If the changes are true, this will be the case for any EX clap in the future, V-Trigger or not. At least that’s my interpretation of those changes.
I hope it’s the former because that could mean EX Bolt combos as well. Hit-confirm into knockdown from a low would be really cool, especially with the grab nerfs. I expect Bolt follow-ups to leave her in the same position they used to so we at least will have that.
If the “nerf” is just that we have to delay st. MK a little it doesn’t seem like a big deal at all to me. On the other hand if it allows you to, say, reset the opponent after 1st hit and have the fireball still on the screen when he lands it is actually a huge buff. Imagine if you could do st. MK xx VSF, cross under and still have the fireball coming to them from the other side…
If it is true that clap is higher when season 2 releases, that might drastically change the Laura v. Gief dynamic. Right now that matchup is extremely difficult but if Gief is not able to use st.hk on reaction, then that would be a total game changer.
Yeah, I’ve stopped thinking about those inconsistent notes. I’ll hop online later to complete the new challenges and then avoid the game entirely until the patch is out.
If I recall this would affect being able to mixup players on wakeup after a EX clap. So for example sHP > EX Clap > Vskill dash under > EX Clap > Vskill would be less ambiguous? Even then All we need to do is slow the timing down so I’m not even sure. If anything doesn’t this benefit us for corner pressure having a mini ageis going on?
So now meter gain has been confirmed to be accumulated at a much slower rate. With how meter heavy she is that doesnt really seem to help her. I hope they adjust her accordingly.
Significantly slower meter gain + shitty throws doesn’t look good for her at all. If they didn’t make her regular fireballs and other specials more viable she will be just trash in S2.
It took me a while to learn to use EX fireballs systematically and it DRAMATICALLY improved my chances of winning a match, now they’re making harder to use the only really good thing about her?
Funny you mention EX Claps as I recently started using EX Blot way more to punish stuff (like Ibuki’s V-Skill which is a pain to deal with). But yeah, less meter means trouble for her, her non EX specials are kinda ‘meh’ across the board.
I’ve been using EX bolt to punish people who think they can meaty me anywhere on the screen since forever lol. st. LP, cr. MP xx EX clap is just too good as a string to throw out in like 90% of cases though.
As of now their idea of S2 seems so weird that I’ll probably have to have the characters in my hands to be able to tell if it is good at all.
It also helps Laura if the opponent has less possibilities to use ex.reversals. We will just have to wait and see, I remain hopeful.
It’s not like I use that many ex.claps in strings anyway, because it is a waste if people vreversal. It is definitely annoying if the throw game changes completely, worst case scenario is that soon we are playing SFxT again.
I would take everything with a grain of salt until season 2 actually starts which will be on the 20th. It’s just been very hectic lately patch notes are all over the place
I’m also going to try to remain positive, but it is really disheartening that she didn’t get any of the changes that most people thought she really needed. I’m mostly worried about her oki. Right now it looks bleak, but maybe some new possibilities will open up… Who knows?
