They’re called flying submissions for a reason. I think there are some liberties taken with the actual holds (SF physics aside), but the concepts are there. That figure four she does on the opponents leg is new to me.
So after watching the reveal trailer, NOW she reminds me of poison, blanka and makoto. The sassy attitude of poison, the electricity of blanka and the I guess "style"of makoto so to speak. She’s hot but…eh for everything else.
For those of you who are claiming her style is ‘unrealistic’, tonight in my BJJ we learned how to throw electric fireball to apply oki pressure. It completely represents modern BJJ.
And I’m just a white belt. The spinning around the edges of the screen is more a purple belt thing.
Guess I had too high hopes for what Laura would play like because it’s not really what I wanted. Still, I’d give her a chance.
It’s not that her CA doesn’t fit SF, it just doesn’t fit her. Tonally. Given that she’s a semi-realistic representation of realistic martial arts with a fantasy element thrown in for flavor, you’d expect the same of her super.
Unless she actually did skin and eat Blanka and gain his powers, then oh well.
While I’m not a huge fan of Laura in terms of overall looks, I’ll keep an eye on her overall playstyle and see what she can do. With Juri most likely not being in unless DLC, I need a secondary to R.Mika and I need to see if her gameplay style in the hands of pros can truly win me over moreso than her already good gameplay shows.
I’ll need to see it in slow motion to see what you mean. It looked a little funky but so do all of her submission holds. Creative license i suppose. I imagine most boxers or karate guys would say the same thing about the characters that rep their styles.
I agree with what someone above posted. Whilst I’m looking forward to comboing into hit-grapples i hope she has a useable command grab too.
I think she has a command grab from her dash, but don’t be surprised if it turns out to only hit standing opponents outside of EX. That move screams “Nina substitute” to me, and it makes sense why they’d do that since Nina is also a character with limb locks and such.
At the moment, I don’t think she will really be describable as a grappler if that’s the case.
So what I’ve gathered from the video special move wise.
She has a command grab.
She has an air command grab done from the ground like R mika.
She has a close range fireball that seems to work kinda like Sakura’s fireball setups in sf4 after hard knockdowns. Probably only hits once though but still more of a setup move rather than something you’re intending to hit people with.
She has a dashing elbow strike with good range that knocks down with a throw animation.
