She’s a mix of poison and juri with some blanka tossed in. The character design is quite over the top and not my cup of tea, but I’m looking forward to the gameplay.
Even in the reveal trailer her fireball dissipates before it’s even over the other character as they’re rising from knockdown. The range seems just a bit too short. Hopefully varying strengths of the fireball go farther distances so that you can truly force the opponent to wake up into block for mix ups.
Character looks good in the reveal trailer, I have some interest in her for a 2nd or 3rd character since she does look interesting and fun. The best of the new comers so far imo.
If those grabs weren’t strike ones then my question is: where does she differ from Mika? Looks to me that she is faster albeit weaker. I can imagine her grab being unblockable at the cost of being really slow (like 8 frames of startup) so that the only practical way of landing it is after cancelable normals, either within a combo or a frame trap. Would remind me a little of Hakan in the sense that she would have enough mobility to not be lamed out by anyone (“hello Dhalsim, have they told you that your worst matchup is against a grappler?”) but in exchange her grabs aren’t guaranteed for geting close.
I hope HiyaMaya’s theory about V-Trigger setups is true. Managing that meter and getting some additional mixups as a reward would give more tools to play up with and would revive the hype that the lackluster reveal just killed.
It seems people are tending to figure that the abundance of grapplers will have them overlapping styles, but I’m sure Laura will have quite a different feel from R.Mika. Especially with a projectile that is utilized completely differently from every other one in the game.
The way her projectile is used reminds me a lot of how Poison’s HP fireball is used, I wonder what sort of recovery it is or if it can be comboed into off of anything.
It looks weird how her grabs are mostly just her falling into a submission. From the early pics and knowing she’s BJJ I expected a lot of subs but I was hoping for more of a natural transition. I think I would have preferred her to have multi-throws(command grab rekkas).
