be very careful throwing out akuma vs ryu or akuma or any character with a good beam hyper. that is a free dead character. you can try superjumping air photon shot, then dashing back down for a little bit of cover. or you can superjump FLY dash across the screen. are there any specifics you’ve tried but they counter?

I’ve tried throwing beam followed by akuma while rushing (got blocked) i’ve tried throwing photon rays in the air but usually when i try that i get hit when i try it…it also dawned on me that when i play doom im not really sure what i should be doin. I try zoning but at best i usually get jumped on or out zoned by magneto…Dooms standing normals are horrible and his cr m and h are to unsafe to throw out an when i call akuma doin those i get blown up for it HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. Do any of you have psn i would play you online to show you what im doin if it will help to better my doom play

There are good videos of Doom players in the video thread. Lots of variety by players, at all skill levels. You can compare how you play to those for ideas.

DevilJin posted in the matchup thread regarding Magneto/fast beam attacks but I agree and will parrot his advice : don’t be there when the beam is out. I suggest not pressing buttons against Magneto until he commits to something. I often super jump straight up and then dash straight down to see what he does. If he is on autopilot you can blow him up with rushdown. Keep in mind Magneto is a bad matchup for everyone.

The exercise of looking for match videos showed me the current video thread is no good for that. We need to organize a bit. I suggest a match video thread : only matches and match commentary.

The other thought is what do we intend for the wiki? Should the wiki be the place to put canonical combos, tutorial, and hype match videos?
Is access available? How do we get that access? I am a bit tired of watching the first post go unupdated, remade, and unupdated again. It would be nice if the responsibility torch could be passed along conveniently.

i think hacing one thread for videos, one for combos, one for etc. is the best way to do it. We just cant have some random guy start the thread who is going to drop doom or isnt very active on the forums do it.

Thanks i think im just gonna drop doom til ultimate comes out since you cant do shit online anyways, if the online is better in the new game i will pick him up again but it sucks tryna get in on someone and your moves dont even register and you get punished for it

Well I will make a match video thread if no ones feels strongly against. I can pretty much guarantee I am keeping Doom. Just for his chair though Doom suxxorz.

Play who gives you fun. At the same time realize Doom is played patiently. A lot of time is spent pretending you don’t want to rush. And then you do. To setup mixups you must pressure with footdive. You beat any buttons with that. Once they start blocking you can use j.m .

Zero plays footsies with s.h and wins with priority. Doom footsies by moving his body. Its street fighter style versus mvc2. If you put doom where they expect you lose. He pokes with his body not his limbs. Search and relisten to the clockwork vs neo money match. Justin wong commentates. His comments on footsies in marvel is the best. Easily the best explanations anywhere. Everything he says applies to this game and Doom.

new staircase combo/loop. thought I would post this here too seeing as I use this one almost exclusively now because it’s useful in air-to-air situations.

How are you guys doing the airdash back down to the ground for the corner loop? If i press :d:+:m::h: (dash) after the Air :s:, nothing seems to come out.

make sure you’re doing it after an H footdive (f+H in the air), otherwise you can’t airdash. it should be launch, j.M, H footdive, S, add, j.H (to fall faster), s.H, s, repeat.

Alright ignore me, my problem was I was pushing :s: as one of the dash buttons. No problems anymore!

I don’t know if anyone’s ever made mention of it, or if it’s even worthy of mention, but I do like Doom’s S.H for punishing people who mash C.L during the Haggar Maytag.

Is it known that when you alpha counter Doom in when he has his hidden missle assist and the opponent is close, Doom will backthrow the opponent? I found this a while ago on accident, but I don’t really play doom. Just remembered how good it could be given the invincibility of alpha counters. Hope someone finds this useful.

So I got my hands on a copy of the game. An hour of training mode reveals some things.
-Doom combos work. Not just the Maximillian combos but real ones. Gotta check the damage though.

  • J.S is super good for mix-ups. I thought it would be good but is way better than expected. You still crossup in the corner with footdive so there is no escape from left/rights. What you do in this game though is jump over their head and S them and try to crossup with it. If they block you get to dash in any direction and attempt another crossup. If it hits they fall down and you land with plenty of time to OTG into full combos.

My Day 1 team is now Zero Doom Strider/Dante. It feels like it will be good.

how good is strider’s teleport kick assist for doom? is it easy to hit confirm dash up OTG after it hits? how about the recovery on the teleport

I also share in this new found hate. Does Doom seem faster during movement? I think that was what Max said in one of his change log videos.

Doom is noticeably faster but not game breakingly Magneto fast.

Teleport kick seems ok. I see it replacing some of what I use Jam session for ( anti air). But it is actually tricky to make strider hit them. You have to predict a super jump/get lucky for it to hit them at the height of their jump. But something like call strider, super jump addf from full screen seems to be a good lockdown. Strider hits them if they jump out, you get a chance to get in if they don’t.

He doesn’t scale damage. He works like Haggar, so you get 3 loops , but 1 hit so much higher damage overall. Could be better than jam session. But probably not.

Lots of times strider will just whiff. If you call Strider and dash in it is super easy to combo OTG. If you wait for strider to hit and THEN dash in it is hard/impossible.

This might be better than Jam session against keepaway. Easy combos to followup a tracking Projectile that knockdowns? Yes please. The animation for Strider hitting them is also hilarious. Something about it cracks me up.

Strider does not knockdown if they are standing(grounded). Just a Wolverine dive kick like stun.
