Last Blade 2 Character Guides/Advanced System thread

sorry, Mushishi for not being clearer but thanks Kyokuji for explaining what i meant XD

i’ll try to work on these
thanks

This is so true for this game. I have more experience with fighting games where keeping your feet on the ground was much more likely to result in a win. Sometimes I get frustrated with LB2 because it seems to favor the airborne combatants to an unreasonable degree. I’ve been playing the game for 12-18 months and I feel I’m worlds better than when I started, but I can still have difficulty with opponents who (IMO mindlessly) jump constantly.
I think part of the problem lies with how the added delay of network play complicates counter-attacking, and the game’s mechanics seem to favor jumping combatants to a degree. However, I’ve often wondered why, in tournament video, you don’t see more action in the air. I’m guessing that playing in the arcade, without network delay, may tip the scales towards more ground based combat. Unfortunately, I don’t have an arcade system nearby to test that theory.

Because it’s a lot easier time to early resets offline, and if you’re quick enough you can keep them grounded with a well timed combo. Air parrying other air attacks is much much easier as well.

Haha! I didn’t really think too much about what you might be trying to say. So my bad as well. I would add one game specific note to what Kyokuji said, and that’s try to learn air recoveries. Against players in the mid-range skill level it makes a huge difference IMO. This is doubly true if you find yourself unable to handle the pressure game of your opponents. Against players at Kyokuji’s level it can be a liability because it can be punished, and better players will look for it. So it’s not some anti-pressure cure all. However, most of the players I encounter online seem unable to punish air recoveries consistently.

Your thread is great, congrats…well,is time to refine my play with Kaede :P.

And great for the Shoryuken Wiki too.

Question:

  1. i saw Kaede grab a opponent off the ground and into the air (but it was his air throw animation tho). how do u do that?

  2. i was watching some lb2 matches on Kyokuji’s Youtube profile, and was wondering after the Kaede player kicks a downed opponent, he does his special grab right after. why is that -_-???

Air throws work on certain downed opponents because they’re considered to be in the air for a small portion of the get-up animation. It’s all just a matter of timing.

As for the kick > throw thing. If you kick a downed opponent, they’re stuck in hit stun so they can’t get up right away. Therefore, you’d still have time to do an OTG throw after the kick hits.

What makes the learning curve on power steeper than on speed? I started with power Setsuna and power Juzoh, but when I made the transition to speed Washizuka it was a fairly even road. Power style seemed a lot more intuitive to me, whereas speed took a bit of learning, as if it were a different system (which it is, but…). Is it the SS-style recoil on heavy slashes? Sorry to ask such a scrub question, it’s just something that was on my mind for a while.

Power mode is mostly link combos which can be difficult to pull off consistently. Kagami and Hibiki’s 1-2 frame links for instance. That and power mode doesn’t have as many options for mix up and such imo. Just my 2 cents.

Well, considering that Setsuna and Juzoh are probably the least combo heavy characters in the game, I’m not surprised you feel that way, lol. Try playing someone like Kaede on power.

Is unawaken kaede a joke character or can he be played seroiusly? i use him on EX mode and i really liked him in lb1. too bad he can`t awaken in-game
btw:
could he ever have a lb2 guide or is he too much of a joke lol

Good point. Just the other day I was wondering why everyone loves Setsuna when they first start playing. j.B, c.B -->623+B = where the hell did his life go?

Also I think speed characters gain a lot of versatility. In power they have to take control and stay on point the whole time, but in speed, any random back A can chain into a 25% combo.

O.Kaede has all the same links that awakened Kaede does in power mode, just less range. For that matter all the same moves, just toned down a bit. He doesn’t do as much damage, doesn’t have as many Dm options, etc.

From playing some people that use him, i’d say he can hold his own vs. most of the roster.

The first match is the most broken thing I’ve ever seen, Juzoh vs. a Zantetsu player who abuses every glitch and overpowered thing about him, yet the Juzoh player still manages to win two out of five. That guy is now my hero.

EDIT: Goddamn, that Zantetsu even did the fake-jump-cancelled RyueiJin combo.

about zan’s dash slice. I don’t think it outright banned, it just seems to be banned outside of combos from the match vids i’ve seen. minus ^ that one anyway.

edit: Wow that arcade must not care about that ban list. Moriya player does a few infinite links.

Yeah, those were the uphillest battles I’ve ever seen. I have a feeling that the vid is either from a very old source or a rather unknown source, as the matches seem rather straightforward aside from the good execution of the combos and such.

However, I did jump for joy when Juzoh deflected and air-grabbed Zantetsu while he was invisible. That was awesome.

That video is hilarious. Mass Zantetsu infinite spam, lol.
I said it before though, the community’s too small and too split for everyone to be on the same page.
The only relatively large LB communities I’ve seen were a couple forums in Japan and the Zyclub guys in China.

This question may or may not be strategy related…

I’ve been wondering why LB2 isn’t more popular. It’s graphically superior to any Neo Geo fighter I can think of, it’s pretty deep technique wise, and it balances rush down vs turtle strategies very well and seems to naturally lend itself to a mixture of both. So, with all it has going for it why is it largely ignored by the kaillera community?

Probably because Last Blade 2 doesn’t have boobs.

But I also think it’s partly because the game got some terrible reviews when it first came out. The first one was recieved very positively, then the second one seemed to be more of the same and got widely panned, thus never really getting a chance to get its foot in the door. Compare this to Garou, which came out a year later and was immediately loved and embraced by the fighting community, and is still relatively popular today.

Don’t take what I say as the truth, though. I’m only putting together the bits and pieces from what I’ve seen.
