I don’t know if you guys find it useful, you may already know this (though I haven’t seen anyone do it), you can catch people into an ultra 1 off a cr.lk. And when will you be using that move? During footsies. Use it sparingly and you can catch people by surprise. Imagine it. Whiff punish with cr.lk xx EX tatsu FADC U1. That’s 355 dmg. You can do the same with lk tatsu, but the hitbox on the LK tatsu’s first hit isn’t as big so you can’t do a max range cr.lk or else the tatsu whiffs completely. But the start up is the same so it’ll still work out; it’s just not as lenient as EX.

edit: Looks like you can use MK tatsu as well. The difference would be in the damage for the first kick:

LK = 60
MK = 65
EX = 80

HK’s startup is one frame too slow according the the current frame data on wiki shoryuken… which btw looks fucked up for gouken.

big big edit: Don’t do it at max range! Don’t do what I said actually. It won’t work if you coincidentally hit someone crouching and it won’t hit at max range like I said before. it’s really risky and should only be used if you are pretty damn sure you’ll catch your opponent. Don’t use it as a punish.

Yo IAM, I saved the replay this time. It happens on Ibuki and Guy a lot but I wanna see if its something that can happen on the entire cast. I’m hitting the lab in second.

She blocked it here with down back but I’ve seen my buddy use down back before and he got hit so idk. Very interesting to say the least. Let me know what you think while I test

This happens for me too. It’s ambiguous wake up pressure. I just see it that the kick is hitting the head in a spot that the game engine has to decide at the last second front or back and then pushes you in that direction. Strange how she could block it down back. You are hitting at the exact moment when the engine doesn’t really know what to do, as you said that sometimes she can’t block down back. I’m assuming this is the window for unblockables as well and the window into the Matrix, itself. It’s not entirely character specific except for timing, but it does trade with a lot of reversals so that may be why you aren’t seeing it vs others as much?

Iat is the sole reason I get a hitbox

It can happen to A LOT of the cast… in some situations they have to block down back and anything else gets them blown up. In others they have to block it standing or anything else including down/back gets them blown up… C Viper/Sakura are both examples of that. I used EX Flip to get it below, but you can do it with normal flip as well if you know where you need to position Gouken. EX Flip auto-tracks so it makes it easier in some situations, but if you time the jump properly you will get it.

There’s a way to get it during footsies too on the whole cast :slight_smile: but mashing can beat some of them… but then there are times that you wan’t them to mash so you can full combo them…

I do wonder how it will affect us on the update b/c essentially it happens b/c in the same window you get unblockables…

So I paused the vid right where I hit her and it turns out that shes blocking holding forward…strange. I notice it happens alot vs her and Guy so it must be something up with their hurtboxes. I now for a fact that if you backthrow Guy, do a j.mp two hit and immediately do lk gf flip into kick it will cross him up if he’s crouching…it appears that he has to block it as a crossup when it looks like a regular divekick. But I landed this off of a sweep in the vid above which is astonishing to me. We need to find a way to consistently attack this window and make this a canned setup somehow.

Its cool man. I didnt even get a chance to hit the lab like I said I was so I really need to test this more. Like I said to Climaxter up there, I paused the vid right where I hit her and she blocked it holding forward, not down back like I originally thought. So its def a crossup setup, but its so dirty and amb that it will never get blocked correctly if we can somehow can this.

I see your vids up there and it seems like you’re delaying the kick a bit? But its def attacking the window because sometimes you hit in front and sometimes you crossup AND it appears to be a safe jump which makes it even worse for the opponent. I dont mind wasting a bar for a sure fire setup like Akumas.

Above I landed this off a sweep so I need to see if I can exactly recreate the sweep spacing and then exactly flip on the frames I did. I will try tonight for a few. If its THAT specific it’ll be useless but if EX gf will work everytime then we’re golden.

Man if we can perfect this setup here I may just switch to Denjin. Cr.hp, ex palm, sweep, amb ex dive kick for crossup, combo, palm = stun. Full charge Denjin = game

That set up is probably the biggest reason I use Denjin.

You always want to have that option of delay on the final kick…
Always being able to ambig an being ahead of wakeup by delay, is where all the magic is, alternating from hk flip sweep mk flip sweep mk flip sweep hk flip sweep to the corner then lk flip mix in the corners.

I had a hard time re creating this last night. I was doing it immediately and kept getting the faux. I was too lazy to pull up this page while I was in the lab so I gave up lol. Now I see you flip immediately but delay the kick so it hits on those unblockable/amb frames of wakeup. I’ll have to re test tonight.

Yeah… it’s all manual timing and positioning.

He has the perfect storm as far as jump arc jump speed and many others that enable him to get Hkd’s and have such a plethora of options and there’s no mistake many don’t know or haven’t Seen.

I’m gonna try tonight. Its weird man. I’ve been on Gaku’s channel all day writing down notes of all these unblockables. I tried some out last night and the timing is way strict. There’s two that are just hard-to-blockables that seem to work on everyone but its corner specific and no different than me doing my usual dj.lk amb. I guess the only difference is that the dj.lk isnt a block string, just super amb and the others are. Its crazy that we dont really have a setup that works on the majority of the cast like the Akuma one, because of dif wake up times and dif hitboxes. I know I know I know, Im asking for life to be easy LOL. But shit man, why should characters that are great already and super high tier like Akuma and Cammy have shit that just works on everybody and make it easier for them to kill you more than they already kill. We’re the ones that should have that stuff.

Gouken does so much damage, I guess that’s why they make it harder… plus it’s so satisfying to see it b/c everybody can’t do it… and then those who can perform it, still have to learn to apply it.

So now that i have a good grip im the stick i would like to know how exactly i can do OS, judging by gaku i see everything wonderful but i don’t know how to do it, the same with gflip OS ex tatsu and all that, if someone can explain me how to proper do it would me awesome and sorry for my non sense here but i didnt even bother on pad because it was a pain on the ass to do shoryu FADC ultra so that’s why i even boder, thank you!!

Go into training and do a reg gf dive kick (without touching the opponent). Do whatever you wanna OS AS SOON as you hit the ground (tatsu, ultra etc). Thats all it is. People over complicate OS’ing. Just do your second move as if your opponent is isnt even there. When you’re in a match, your safe jump dive kick will hit and the OS wont come out…if they do something invincible or a backdash, Gouken will hit the floor and perform whatever you OS’d.

The only thing I had issues with was what comes after the OS inputs. I was so focused on landing the OS and performing it correctly that I would actually hit someone with the dive kick and not complete the combo because I was focused on whether the OS was gonna come out or not. Look at it this way, this stuff happens in just a few frames, if the OS comes out, if its an ultra there will be a screen freeze…ex tatsu, you will get ex tatsu. Dont focus on the OS coming out. Just do the motions and focus on what you’re gonna do when the dive kick hits. Worry about what you’re gonna do when it gets blocked more specifically. If it hits, simple, you just go into combo…if he does something invincible or a backdash the game engine itself will take over and its nothing you yourself need to worry about. Its hard to do, not focusing on the OS, but after a while you’ll get used to it.

Just make sure you’re doing the 4 framer and make sure you have a gameplan in mind when it gets blocked (blockstring out, tick throw, gf etc). If he backdashes or does something invincible the engine will take over for you.
