Kuroda Interview by Shueisha's Weekly Playboy Magazine

Where did Kuroda use Sean?

Kuroda Sean DVD

Seans super choices is the most matchup Dependant off all super choices that any other character has. Sa1 has 3 short bars but the damage is bad compared to the others, it pushes the opponent back so no setup afterwards and it’s harder to link from uoh and confirm from standing hk.

Sa2 does good deal of damage, great setup after super hits in midscreen and even corner. but when sean picks sa2 his ground game suffers because he becomes less of a problem at cr mk ranges. You gotta be really close to hit sa2, you can already expect the sean to dash in alot, once you start tagging his dashes he gotta think of something else.

Sa3 has only one, long bar, but it has fast startup, can wiff punish, block punish some moves. It has ok setup potential after it hits but not as good as Sa2. The damage is the largest off all over supers. It is the easiest to hitconfirm.

People who pick sean got their super preferences and may look any super art look like it is the best one to pickl at all times, but I think sa2 is the best vs Hugo Alex Yun Necro. Sa3 Urien ken ryu maybe remy. sa1 oro. I know I left out many characters but the ones mentioned are just those I feel I can safely switch to that corresponding super art, at least for the first game. Dudley in my opinion, super art choice is really interchangeable.

Also I feel as if watching Sean DvD can be a good way to see how sean is played, especially how to properly use Sa2, but not the ends of it. Kuroda sean is not playing against a variety of characters for one, and two, he relies solely on fundamental play and never uses none of Seans moves other than Sean kick to get out of the corner. Ofcourse Kuroda can play like that, and for many people, this is the"right way" or “honorable” way to play, but Sean is not really that kind of character. He is like Hot Sauce Phillip Champion, he should be played same way you would play if you were a globetrotter on the court, but don’t overdo it.

All of the explanations I’ve gotten from you guys so far about how SAII is superior to SAI has not convinced me yet. SAI is way more versatile and dangerous than you give it credit for. Sean thrives on not being rushed down or in a situation where he is close to his opponent. Know why? because he can’t handle it. SAI keeps you on the defense and gives you time to charge up 2 or 3 supers that will leave a huge dent in their health, as well as giving you more ability get out with EX shoryus, and still having 2 bars to do some damage.

SAII just doesn’t compare. It makes you have one game plan, and that’s getting CLOSE as hell to your opponent. I’ve played sean for a very long time. SAI kills SAII.

SA1 is like playing a terrible version of SA3 Ken and a bad version of SA1 Ryu.
You’re just playing footsies with a weaker character looking to catch stuff.
Nothing about it is Sean specific, it doesn’t really take advantage of anything unique to Sean other than his walk speeds and dash distance. Which really benefits his others too anyway.

SA2 and even 3 give him distinctly different options. You can’t use SA1 to blow through anything on reaction, and it forces you back to a spacing which benefits every other character in the game more than you.

It’s concerning that people are putting this much effort into discussing Sean but not discussing other characters or match ups ^_^;

well, it is a game.
if someone finds it fun to use sean, what’s wrong with talking about it and learning?

don’t be a scrooge bro

Yea you’re right it’s a game, doesn’t make much sense to discuss other characters / match ups in depth unless you’re preparing for an event or to play offline. I should’ve said it’s amusing not concerning. Sorry to derail the thread/discussion.

I never understood the appeal of Sean personally. He’s a joke character that isn’t funny and has no personality. Picking Sean just says “I am incredibly insecure and have no confidence in my ability to play a real character.”

I mean, he has a basketball. But Lord Raptor from Darkstalkers has an awesome basketball dunk super that’s more creative than anything Sean ever did.

I didn’t mean it like that, just if some people want to use Sean, what’s wrong with that? It’s not like kuroda skipped over him haha. Especially with kuroda tiers being a discussion in here, he puts sean above twelve and barely under remy i think. Remy isn’t seen as being offensive and time wasting to use (depends who you ask though lol).

by ‘its a game’ i didn’t mean the whole ‘it’s just a game, dont be so serious’ thing.
i meant its a game, we play to have fun and enjoy ourselves, for some people sean is fun, that’s all.

Same can be said to anyone who picks any character weaker than Chunli, picking anybody else could mean that the player is insecure and has no confidence in his ability to play a stronger character.

And the opposite can be said as well " I am incredibly insecure and have no confidence in my ability to play a character that I actually like or feel comfortable using because I am afraid of losing and worry about what other players will say"

Sean is an interesting concept of a character for me and a few others. I only find sean twelve and alex interesting designs in the game, everybody else to me is not and I personally find no pleasure in using. But everybody got their preferences, just because you an many others dislike sean, you shouldn’t criticize people who like using him from time to time by saying they are just insecure, maybe they just like the character?

Not everybody plays only to win, it’s a game after all.

I don’t think you know this but Chad plays to win.

hes got a pink gi

SA2 Sean keeps Sean in the game at all times. You’re not coming back with SA1 if you’re low on health and the other guy has 80% health left.

SA2 requires 1 opening to do 50% damage. With 2 meters, you even have the potential to do 100% damage, provided a bit of luck.

Chris G was the real true Sean player. You’ll see him racking wins at CF on friday nights with him and everyone looks puzzled at the end… ‘How the fuq is his Sean so good’?

And he does it all gimmick style.

Bodler, we’re all still awaiting that set with kickassguy. It’s time to put back on that pink Gi

I remember hearing a while ago that Kuroda made DVDs for all characters except Urien, Chun and Yang. I saw one for Urien in that batch on Youtube, are Chun and Yang still missing?
