Kuroda best player in FG history?

Lol what? Since when has Wong or Tokido won a Tekken tournament? Or in some unlikely event that you show me one either won, let me rephrase that a little bit: Since when has Wong or Tokido won a Tekken tournament that had even some of the best players participating?

I’d probably say Tokido is the best overall fighting game player, but when it comes to any particular game, there’s a number of players in Japan that outshine him.

Kuroda probably has the largest amount of dominance over the rest of the top player population in Third Strike, which is something very hard to achieve. Japan’s third strike scene is insanely strong, and yet he can make even the very best players look like beginners.

Wtf are you talking about…

No…

Edit: I don’t think BAS was the best CvS2 player…it’s a tough pick but I always felt that Deshigitsune was the strongest player…or perhaps OTK because he was Deshigitsune’s student.

/thread

Japan Nationals 2000 – 1st Place
SBO 2003 – 2nd Place
Evo 2003 – 2nd Place

Don’t get your definition of “suck”…

Tokido won Canada Cup 2011 and Shadowloo Showdown 2010 + 2011, placed 7th at Evo 2011, 5th Evo 2010, 3rd at CEO 2011 and 3rd at Stunfest X.
And don’t give me that “best players” bit. These were all major tournaments with good players.
Also, Japan/Korea > Europe >= USA at Tekken.

curious where you’d place him in your list…

no what? he’s not a top 10 ST player? he’s not a top 10 ST player with ryu? he doesn’t have the 2nd best ryu? he doesn’t have the 2nd best ryu after ShootingD?

[/quote]

i don’t either. it’s been awhile… but i liked guys like uma and yane.

Nope, its CRoyd by far

Yes that’s what I was thinking. Its refreshing to know that at least 1 person other than me thinks the right way here.

Not saying that Tokido is the end all be all in terms of gdlk players. He’s the only one I can think of who consistently places in the top 5 in tons of big games out there. For 3S, Kuroda is unquestionably god himself, the Shen Long of 3S if you will.

Daigo=overall best sf player
tokido=overall best fighting game player imo

Dude wtf, how can you even put korea and japan in the same place when it comes to Tekken? Korea>>>>>>>>Japan when it comes to Tekken
Also never have I seen Tokido fight against Knee or Nin, so I dont really understand how you can think he is one of the best at Tekken

Best player in FG history has to be Daigo. The accomplishments are there, simple as that. Tokido gets a very strong honorary mention and is the clear second place choice IMO. He bodies people free after playing a game for one day and his ability to break down game systems is probably unparalleled in FG history.

If you’re talking about the player who is way better than the next best player at a given game… I dunno if you can even pick Kuroda in that capacity. He’s amazing but I think MOV etc are almost as good. You might have to go with JWong and MvC2 (only during his prime) for that. Ogawa for Guilty Gear? Nin for Tekken? I don’t know those scenes as well.

Shadowloo Showdown 2010 and 2011 had no real good players (california, korea, europe…), the results log is filled with nobodies + Tokido, so that’s no wonder. EVO obviously did have most of the best players minus koreans, so he got bodied. CEO 2011 did have some good players, I’m kind of surprised he won over Fab and Pokchop, but maybe they got screwed somewhere along the bracket. Stunfest X results are once again filled with nobodies, except for maybe Genius, but that was a team tournament and I don’t know who Tokido teamed up with, but it doesn’t count because it’s not singles.

So no, Tokido hasn’t won any tournament which would have all the best players participating, which isn’t much of a surprise because Tokido is not a Tekken player.

Also for your country ranking… 'the fuck outta here.

Daigo’s Yun run in AE could have been WAY MORE dominant than his Ryu run in vanilla and SSF4 but he showed up to very few tourneys during that time.

But for the ones he did show up to, like Revelations and NCR 2011, he completely raped the competition. 2nd place at Revelations was Mago and 2nd at NCR was Infiltration who dominated the other players there but they had NO CHANCE vs Daigo in Grand Finals.

Daigo was invited to other tourneys too during the AE era, like Shadowloo Showdown, Canada Cup 2011 and Season’s Beatings Velocity, but he declined to participate. All of those invites included flights, accommodations and VIP treatment.

However, Daigo did go to Kuwait in the fall of 2011. This leads me to believe that Daigo doesn’t like the long international flights in general and is reluctant to travel to compete. But he knows that he is sort of the ambassador of 2D fighting games and he will travel in places with a young FG community to promote the games.

Daigo probably feels that even without him, Shadowloo Showdown, Canada Cup 2011 and Season’s Beatings would still be a huge success, because those tourneys were already well-known and have an established community supporting them.

About Kuroda being the best… is he even the best 3rd Strike player? I know that he mastered more 3S characters than anyone else in the world, but can he really win a singles tourney against Nuki, Tokido, MOV and Rikimaru all using Chun-Li? At the last Shadowloo Showdown:

  1. TH|MOV (Chun-Li)
  2. MCZ|Tokido (Chun-Li)
  3. EG|Momochi (Yun)
  4. TH|Deshiken (Ken)
  5. EG|Justin Wong (Chun-Li)
  6. Genki (Alex)
  7. TH|Michael-tan (Ken)
  8. WW|Ryan Hart (Ken, Yun)

even the part-time 3rd strike player Tokido with Chun got 2nd place. Kuroda is dedicated to 3S, but I’ve never seen him use Chun in a tournament. I doubt he could replicate Daigo’s win streak if he doesn’t use Chun. The other 3S top dogs like Nuki, Tokido, MOV and Rikimaru are extremely good too, and they all use Chun.

I place them equal because Japan keeps winning SBO.

LOL at ppl that gave serious responses to this thread

I’d place him among the collection of other top players of the game…probably slightly lower than the top players that stayed devoted to the game.

He’s not one of the top 10 ST players because it’s pretty easy to pick out 10 ST players that overshadow him…I’d probably put him now on the tier slightly lower than the best players in the world for ST.

Well to be fair, Korea gets like one qualifying spot (I think) while Japan gets like…20? The chances for Korea winning are much lower even if they are better.

That said, Japan’s Tekken level is also super high, I’d put them roughly equal.

No he isn’t, but he still does extremely well. I’d bet he spends very little time playing tekken but is still godlike. He is an all around amazing fighting game player, but will obviously not beat someone’s main game if its just a secondary. Well actually I bet he could be most people at their main game, just not the very best.

that’s interesting you consider him a top cvs2 player. he’s shown results in ST, and i don’t mean evo, in a much more competitive scene. i don’t want to say the game was at the height of it’s popularity, i guess around 2003-2008, because it’s probably only half true. anyway i don’t really recall him ever being beaten easily even by the s-tier players, so please refresh my memory.
