Just because 98 Kim is more limited, doesn’t mean 2k2 Kim is dumbed down. I remember you complailned about 2k2 Kim’s close C, which is very fast…I don’t have frame data but I know that even in 98, you can combo crouch A, close C with him. In fact, you can also combo crouch B, close C (easily), something you cannot do in kof2k2.
Also, Kim’s stomp bug is much much easier to do in 98, and is more abusable. The reason is, the moment you get one stock, you can go into maxmode and then spam the bug. Since your stock doesn’t increase while you’re in maxmode, the bug will keep working properly.
Also, kof98’s air qcf+K is much better (and scrubbier) than kof2k2’s version. And…Kim’s far D spam can be considered scrubby for the same reason you think Daimon’s far D/df+C spam is scrubby.
Y’know…2002 has a lot of problems…but I’d still be willing to forgive most of them if the controls weren’t so god-awful.
Neowave fixed a lot of 2002’s problems, and has better controls (though still not as good as most of the post-96’ KOFs).
I have to go with KOF 98’ all the way…even if high-level 98’ is poke and Jump CD ALL DAY.

I dont see how anyone could want kim in 98 over 2k2. hes a much more fun intresting character in games after 98.
Like I said put kim from 2k2 or any game but 98 and K’ from say 2k1. And the game would be awsome lol…

98 Billy wasnt even that good of a character, he was alright in the right hands but usually got beasted on.

about the 98/2k2 thing, while the 98 top tier stuff was rebalanced in 2k2, i personally dont think it means much because of athena/billy/choi they just replace the toptier from 98
of course they are not god and can be beaten if you work hard enough, but for reasons ilke thsi i just say it’s a matter of preference (imo)
just because a game is limited and considered “old school” doesnt mean its not complex or deep or anything like that…and i play both old school and new school games in general without problems, each have their own skill set and thigns to like/dislike.
BTW if you keep posting useful and informative posts like this instead of arguing about reputation and calling srk fanboys etc i dont see people having a problem with you. as far as I’m concerned SNK/capcom players are joined at the hip like brothers/cousins even if niggaz dont want to admit it. we ride together, and die together, no homo :looney:

oh, and also I should say, for my OWN local scene, 98 and 2k2 are in a arcade here and they both get played about equally it just depends on the day to tell you the truth…it’s right next to the game i play seriously (arcana heart) and ther are some dedicated chinese that still play the game…just gotta find em randomly etc but ppl here support both (not so much xi, cause its harder to find in arcades)

yeah he can, and the first hit of close C has no pushback, meaning that he can use the stomp bug much more effectively than in 2k2.

in fact in 2k2 you can do kim’s stomp combo only on backturned and crouched mature/vice
their little sprite make the second C hit whiff into stomp so it’s like to cancel on the first hit
and the combo isn’t abusable

Why are you going back to this? I mean i understand your opinion but it doesn’t really matter. As long as we are playing fighting games in general and keeping it moving, it’s all good. Everyone has their own personal preference anyway and every fighting game has something that is wrong with it or stupid and dumb. There are almost NO exceptions to this rule. I currently feel Arcana Heart FULL! owns all the games I’m playing right now, but even I would be a fool to not admit that I feel this way because of personal preference - even I understand the game has flaws, and they become a little obvious the more and more I play the game. Could you please stop posting preference lists?
Yes, this is pretty much what I said to you in the part of my post you quoted, and I agree. I was kinda getting at the point that the 98 toptiers can be just as “easy” to play as 2k2’s top tiers, and overall, it’s just a different flavor of broken, it didn’t really change THAT much. in the end kof is still kof and the games do play similar.
again this comes back to the personal preference thing.
I do agree that it’s best to play a game that you can find comp for, it’s too ahrd to blow up a underrated game because of the chicken/egg scenario if you understand what I mean.
and believe me when I say I KNOW full well how hard it is to promote a underrated game.
the stuff i said about depth was to counter what you said before (i think in the kof vs sf thread) about how some old games were scrubby pokefests etc. But that’s neither here nor there, and overall, we have the same way of thinking when it comes to the overall picture. snk guys have built years and years of bad reputation on here, and that is probably one of the reasons why people are giving you a hard time. It’s not necessarily your fault, but the way you behaved in the thread probably made the situation a lot worse.
Capcom players on here have been closed minded about SNK games for the longest time, and I’ve been on srk from day 1.
A lot of progress has been made in this area, partially due to no new capcom games, but for years and years, there were tons of SNK trolls that used to come to this site and post some useless nonsense that did not help their image at all. the poster “K4” who came on SRK around the time that SVC came out (and there was actually a SVC strategy session) pretty much embodied everything that was wrong with SNK games and it’s community. And there were many SNK trolls coming here like taht, which made the image of SNK games look worse and worse (in Capcom players eyes.)
Aside from all that, what makes the situation even worse is that CAPCOM players like it or not are keeping the torch going worldwide with evolution, and many other major tournaments in america etc.
when you look at the SNK scene there is nothign on the scale of the evolution series of tournaments with the exception of asian countries which keep kof goign strong, but its inaccessable to the western world at large.
before you counter my statement, just know that i know europe has SNK tourneys from time to time, I have met some of the euro players and I do pay attention to the scene from time to time, I know europe plays snk too, believe me, I’ve been around for a long time in the tourney scene
but i hope you can just understand the perspective from CAPCOM players point of view and going forward on this site

it came out and nobody played it (atomiswave at time was on 450$ the game itself 1000$ and the only dealer was coinopexpress)
after a year or so they did the ps2 japanese port
not accessible to the masses unless swap/modchip
europe is still waiting the pal release (bounced from month to month)
and with XII on the road nobody will learn XI anymore waiting directly for it
obviously arcades are pretty dead in the whole world beside japan
so nobody can play
