Well, to hit on a few topics:
XIV vs DOA: They both have similar artistic goals. Especially when it comes to rendering skin in a way that feels like a mix of anime-ish tones, while still feeling somewhat more “cartoony”. Street Fighter kinda skips this by forcing it’s own inkstroke-inspired style onto it’s 3D models, which makes you interpet them in an entirely different way.
The bad thing about the DOA comparison to me is that DOA also has huge, multi-part stages to consider, while XIV’s are smaller and more focused. So KoF should be able to spend more processing power / memory on character models than the usual DOA game.
Costumes @Monkey66 - Your image links all appear to be broken for me. But I know what kind of stuff you’re talking about.
Honestly, I kinda don’t want any of that in KoF, surprisingly! Bikini’s and such just feel too dry and dull for KoF costumes. I could see some characters getting them, but an overall bikini set just sounds wrong, for some reason. I’d rather see themed sets that include something unique for each character, or re-designs for each character in a team by various artist.
How would Kyo’s team look with more traditionally Japanese designs? How about a Sentai-themed Team Maxim- ahem K’? Masami Obari Fatal Fury OVA set of costumes? 70’s Seinin Manga team AoF? Alternate Genre singer set for our theater and entertainment characters? SNK-Classics costume sets for everyone, making them into characters from SNK’s hundreads of IPs? Metal Slug Set for the Ikaris? This could all be great.
I’s also love to see New voicework for costumes, personally. Noone really does this currently, but you could frame a character in a whole new light by giving them different ways to say their same moves.
DLC: DLC characters made in response to a fanbase’s desires creates a sense of 2-way interaction with a product and company. SMITE does this all the time by introducing characters and skins based on community feedback, fanart, and ideas. They also include things like announcer voicepacks from the tourney personalities, or from the in game characters themselves.
I’d love to see this KOF do things like make a team made of the most requested characters from various parts of the world. Or introduce new edit characters when they release new games on STEAM, PS4, or even XB1 back-compatibility. DLC created as a promo could even be given away free to all users of them game.
