Yesterday I dreamt about how during PlayStation Experience, the show reaches the point where they talk about fighting games.
First it’s SF5 and the final character
Then Tekken 7 and a release date
And then they finally show KOF14 with an updated build. They show the trailer
The screen and the whole room goes black
SNK’s boss comes out on stage and welcomes Ono back
The room goes dark again
Then they start another trailer. It’s starts with barely audible True Love in Making echoing somewhere, and then - holy shit - it’s the Capcom Vs SNK 2 remaster for the current Gen, with upgraded graphics and online mode
And finally…
They show a CGI trailer. Rugal and Bison are on a roof under the rain in a standoff. Suddenly Akuma appears. Then Vice and Mature join Rugal. Akuma stands near Bison. Juri comes out and looking at Bison like “let’s fuck them app”. The lighting strikes
ya guys think SNK will lower the execution requirements this time around in order to make the game more accessible like making motion inputs simpler ? or will they stick to their tradition ?
I remember once when I was playing KOFXIII years ago with Flux, he took one look at Vice’s Overkill command, and he was like “What is that?”.
Maybe in this day and age though, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for SNK to just streamline all the commands like they did in Garou:MOTW.
Plus if Geese is indeed in the game… I wouldn’t mind having EZ Storms again either.
But then like how people say making combo’s easier in Street Fighter V takes away from the game, you’re gonna have people saying the same thing by making commands easier, especially for DM’s.
The commands are fine short of Raging Storm and I don’t think SNK has the balls to bring back the OG Raging Storm Command because there would be riots.
Though they could do a Smash Bros. Ryu thing where they give him both Easy Mode Raging Storms AND Pretzel Storms and you get extra benefits from doing it the hard way.
I’m against making the inputs easier just because it’s never done for a valid reason. Making the game more accessible is not a valid reason, and that might sound elitist or whatever, but the simple fact of the matter is making inputs easier doesn’t make the game more accessible in a meaningful way. The argument that casuals don’t play fighting games because the inputs are too hard is flawed as hell. Skullgirls made everything quarter circles and DP’s reducing the execution barrier of special moves drastically. How many casuals still play SG? NONE. It didn’t do anything for the longevity of the game. How many casuals are still playing Rising Thunder? I’d wager not many. Those kinds of changes just don’t work. The reason casuals don’t play fighting games isn’t because they’re too hard, it’s because they take practice and casuals aren’t interested in practice. It doesn’t matter how simple you make the inputs, if the game itself isn’t simple it’s still getting dropped. I have yet to see any game actually be successful at casual retention through executional difficulty. Simply put, that isn’t the problem.
I’d love if people played the game and stuck around. I’m always making negative posts in this thread because people DON’T. My point is that making the inputs easier won’t make people stick around so there’s no point in changing them, that just makes it more confusing to people who have been playing the series up until now. There’s no good reason to change them.
The only input I want changed is Raging Storm (assuming we are getting Geese back) because COME ON… Otherwise the inputs are fine anyway and actually make complete sense. I tend to like KOF Inputs over anything else because they make sense and you can use longcuts to get certain things to flow better. Plus they already made combos easier in XIII with that input buffer where you can hold the button a few frames early to get Specials to come out at the first possible frame.
Personally I have no problems with the raging storm input, especially with how lenient it became in later games and especially 98UMFE, but if it gets changed I understand and won’t complain, because that’s an input that even FF/KoF players complain about.
Andy is confirmed. And, this particular video will give us a slightly better idea of what we are in for in terms of game play. It’s looking better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM5s-Ad4e6s
