KOF XIV General Discussion - King of Fighters XIV Arcade Ver. Burn 2 Fight cabinets from Taito!

All these “KoF Fans” comming out in full force to complain about KoF14 state yet couldnt be bother to support KoF13 which SNK said was do or die situation?

I knew where I was, (whoring out SNK other rich history of fighters). Only KoF related game I liked was KoF Mira and Neo wave (groove system was fun) and normally had the other KoF as collectors ( and color edit mode). I was aware of some of the nuances of the game, and seeing the changes their making is keeing me optimistic has gotten me optimistic and excited.

I loved how KoF MIRA and XII allow CD> commands follow ups. The revision to KoFIV CD attack to allow follow up by wall bounce is welcome and nice homage to KoF MIRA yet not busted XII Cd attacks.

I like how SNk had additional normal for character that normal served a specific purpose, but it always felt like the character blessed with additional normal that could be chained from light attacks and command cancel were the strongest. KoF new Rush currently seems like good way to compromise this if design like P4arena. Don’t it want over shadow traditional normal>additional Normal> Ect and hope it has some harsh damage scaling but serves other purposes similar to P4Arena. I theorized as all around optimal poke punish and confirm tool only, meter beuild seems nice but eh. Im sure DM command grab will love this. Though I wonder how thiy be handing by Chang’s Mashing command…or did that change that?

As MoTW player I was thrilled when Just defend showed up in KoF Neo Wave. But even I must Admit that Just defend in MoTW is pretty busted and would need to be revised and not just slapped on like Neo wave. KoFXIV seem to opt to make stronger guard with less penalty (no chip and guard gauge damage) with some reward ( meter build). Seem like Good compromise of not hindering offense or crippling defenders. While I at first was envisioning push back or guard cancel, I have to say I appreciate this method more because KoF handle Mix up pretty ok for the most part. Tech Grabing is pretty generous and block switch made you immune to grabs altogether. Not many character had strong high lows unless and most required very specific set up. This also allow a low risk/ low reward counter zoning option.

These examples on the other hand. They have like a single common ground per character but are really reaching especially the comparison involving Kasumi and Elizabeth. They’re about as similar Claw(from SF) and Kisaragi. Edit: a better example is Sasuke(Naruto) and Hiei(Yu Yu Hakusho)

And for the things they do share, they’re ultimately irrelevant because what really matter is how the design comes out in the end. For most of the characters that have been in comparison, just by their appearance you can see a bit of their character and that adds to the character. The design’s and personalities that are presented by said designs ultimately make them leagues different.

All this being said, I don’t Sylvie doesn’t fit into KoF. And food for thought, I’ve only looked at Arcana Heart once and hated it. However, even though I don’t think the presented AH characters really had much in common with their supposed KoF counter parts, I actually can’t remember an AH character that had even that much in common with Sylvie. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t remember all of the characters in that shitty game. But if I’m right, this debate is officially dead

I just hope this new SNKP realizes that and, besides bouncing boobs, they give her a pretty decent move list too and they make her competitive. In XIII she was a mess.

Next month game will be shown in Japan. Mai could be revealed, and/or Ryo, Athena, Joe, Goro…
Or maybe they are saving Mai, Geese and Athena for EVO / E3… Who knows.

at the very core yes but those surface details are the end of their design similarity, just as much as Galeford and Ryu Hayabusa(both being ninja who wear ninja garb. but once again I see you’re point. They aren’t to far off.

I would say ninja garb is much less defining than a female boxer, which is already a rare thing, that wears a business suit button up sleeveless shirt and a tie. Yes, they are surface level comparisons, but it’s a very specific niche surface level comparison that I would argue matters more than a ninja that dresses like a ninja. It’s a design that does not exist except in these very few instances.
