Angel’s story could change, any story could change. Wouldn’t be the first time a retcon happened in a fighting game. Remember that time Akuma killed someone? No you don’t.
Chang’s character model does actually look good though. But the other characters look more detailed and have more style to them compared to the 1st trailer.
Hoping the game pulls something like SF4 where by launch the visuals improved dramatically from the original footage. But with them targeting a 2016 release date, it being made by a Chinese studio and with a limited Sony funding budget I have my doubts.
The character models are pretty bad (Chang’s looked pretty decent though) but the animation really gets to me more than anything, it’s almost like they’re trying to make it look 2D similar to XRD by making the animation purposely choppy with skipped frames but it doesn’t work because the models don’t look 2D and have barely any secondary motion.
It’s weird. It’s like they have 2 different art directions for the character’s faces and their clothes. If you look at Kyo’s clothes, the textures, model and the little details seem decent. But then they threw on a rejected face model from FFX on it.
I really want this game to be good, but I can’t help but feel like the company that just bought them is just trying to push something out to get some returns. Nothing in these trailers look even close to finished. But they apparently think it’s ready to be displayed, which is terrifying to me.
Speaking of K9999, it’s too bad SNK stopped using him, he had a really cool rivalry with K’. I mean, don’t other fighting games have homage characters like Boxer or some of GG’s anime homages? I never really saw the homage thing as a problem.
They illustrate it quite well in KOF 2001’s PS2 re-made intro, where their rivalry appears to be the main focus:
Arcade intro:
Speaking of 2001, Igniz was a really awesome final villain. What if SNK at least had another team work on a KOF that used the old sprites, and make a KOF ultimate? With every boss from the entire series up until early/mid Ash saga. And have every character that ever appeared in KOF in it as well? K999 and Nameless should be seperate characters rather than the latter being a reboot of the former, it be more interesting.
Most of you know KOF from the arcade version, I was introduced to it from the 2005 PS2 re-release that bundled 2000/2001 and 2002/2003. (2003 had 3D moving backgrounds and arranged soundtrack. I thought Mukai was somekind of Aztec God by the way.)
I hope the best for KOFXIV. Perhaps they need a bigger budget?
With a bigger budget, they could probably do more:
Well, actually, if the graphics where at that level, it be during the PS12 era. Where gameplay graphics look like rendered cinematics from now, and most of you will be old men turned cyborgs or even a brain inside a robot in order to be able to keep playing fighting games.
Isn’t there a Mugen KoF that uses your idea and even has the same name, You know that a game like that would have a lot of match ups and that characters take time
