KOF XIV General Discussion - King of Fighters XIV Arcade Ver. Burn 2 Fight cabinets from Taito!

Well there was this

Those look like 3D CG models and they are outdated, the characters don’t look like that anymore.

I’m talking about something like this

I think that Kim’s Master will be “Mr.Taekwondo”.

Apparently during KOF Maximum Impact, Kim was suppose to have an alter ego called Mr.Taekwondo. But the idea got scrapped and was replaced by Chae Lim.

I think it would work well for SNK to use that idea with Kim’s Master.

I am very sure that this was spoken about in a previous page, but

Back in previous KOF games, from 94 to 98, you pick three characters to play. Two of the other characters will hang around in the background cheering the player’s character on with various (and somewhat hilarious) reactions.
If KOFXIV should bring this feature back, I wonder if there are going to be any secondary mechanics that apply to this (outside of cosmetics).
Because, in some of the said previous KOF games, you could actually use the characters in the background to periodically stop opponent from attacking you (in Rugal’s case, his panther would try to smack you if you try to utilize certain command grabs and such).

Another thing I wonder about are team management and team relations (see OG KOF98).
The way you arrange your team would determine how much meter you gain or some secondary effect that pertains to meter advantage. This is based on certain character relations and team positioning (though this was removed in UM). There might be a very small chance for something like this to return (not probable, but these are just thoughts I had in mind as to what approach SNKP are taking to create this game).

For KOF97, it was character relationships. For KOF98, as I recall, it’s randomized by the internal clock of the NeoGeo. So the reason why the “Happy/Neutral/Angry” faces are the same all the time on GGPO/Fightcade is because the game is started from a universal save state each time so it’s always the same and gives the impression it’s based on character relations when it actually isn’t. If you reset the emulation mid-connection, the “faces” become all different and randomized.

I guess the only thing I’d like to see come back is the back ground team members helping out of a stun or mash throw situation; but, the most recent KOF games haven’t really had mash throws nor is stun a common occurrence so such a mechanic to be seen in action would be rare. I’d rather not see meter gain or loss dependent on character relation/synergy since that could skew team frequencies and diminish team variety.

I still would like to see the teammates in the background for at least aesthetic affect. It would actually make it feel like a team battle rather than just have some new characters pop out of nowhere after someone gets KO’d.

I feel more or less the same.

Looks like there’s an event this month after all.

Probably going to be a trailer with this as well.

Jesus Christ what the hell is that picture?

V Has Come To

Lol my bad they’re the same shit but that other art work looks amateurish in comparison, this is from 1994 and still looks better.

I dunno man, I cant stop laughing at Benimaru in that picture.

3D “HQ” Renders are the promotional art for modern games, as annoying as that may be.

Especially since this is outdated as can be, as mentioned. Which is the perfect reason NOT to make art at this early juncture.

It would be very nice to see some stuff like this:

But we live in a pretty different world now-a-days. Most of this stuff was made for promotions in print media. That’s almost a non-factor now.

It’s more likely we’ll see art once they start showing off the arcs new characters, however. Right now we’re mostly retreading characters that have been in the series for over 2 decades. But getting some guest artist to toss promos into the new blood (especially using old artstyles that are common to the brand) would be a smart way to hype them.

maybe you missed this

Was that not a comment about packing the in-game gallery with art from the history of the series?

Either way, we’re still in a pretty different world. It was great when Key artworks were the first line of promotion for games. Getting that big, gorgeous concept-turned-promotional art spread over magazines with high-quality, glossy paper and quality ink was a joy. You saw art before you saw game models. Game models were made to the artist spec, and that was their primary concern.

Now the in-game works lead the way. We’re shown models and gameplay before we see promotional works. Artwork is more of a legacy inclusion, rather than a pre-release highlight.

Of course, this could all change as time goes on. I’d love to see daily artwork, in the same way they’ve been doing daily screenshots for the past few weeks.

I’m I the only one who doesn’t like the Artwork in kof 2k1? It just doesnt look good to me. Also I heard some old artist where coming back to work on XIV, does anyone know who they are?

The ones people have been posting facebook posts from. Nobuyuki Kuroki and Soesoe who’s real name escapes me at the moment. Also other artists that haven’t been named, such as the sprite artist who created the raging storm effect.

Not a fan of shinkiro’s Jorge clooney faces and stiff poses either but his shading, realism and overall detail has always been top tier.

I like hiroaki’s work better and he can mimic shinkiro’s style pretty well he has done work for KOF 2000 like that art work sab posted KOF XI and the UM games last thing I knew he was a freelancer. I hope snk could contact him and hire him to do some work for KOF XIV.

Nobody likes 2001’s art. It’s awful.

Nice screenshot of the day, Leona has a nice rack.

Now that the game is in 3d, hope there are some unlockable/dlc costumes. Especially some classic costumes.
