KOF XIV General Discussion - King of Fighters XIV Arcade Ver. Burn 2 Fight cabinets from Taito!

Its so dumb how capcom wont use artwork on the select and vs screen the models really look gross up close

Using select screen artwork in a game with 3d models can look really out of place. Also, that would be a downgrade from the SFIV select screen.

Sorry i dont agree

Some really sick 2D art at select and vs screen would be hype af. The models can then be whatever In game

Didn’t tekken tag 2 had artwork during the vs screen?

You had 2-D art at the win screen on kof13 and they didnt look like the sprites

Except the game was 2-D. Also, I never said it would always look out of place(that’s subjective).

Well it seems we will going to have a playable demo of KOF XIV in this month too.

KOF XIV will be playable in PS Arena at South Korea on 20th of March 2016. https://twitter.com/gatoray_kof/status/706999446765064192

People are still playing SSFII Turbo HD?

They should reveal Kim’s team there

Sweet, I hope we get a trailer with it. Fingers crossed to see Choi, Vice, and the new Prisoner

A new trailer would be nice, maybe someone can record some footage this time.

God bless they heart

the real question is why does anyone give a shit about uncharted’s multiplayer

Oh shit, they’re gonna have HDR in Korea? Game deserves more love. If they fix the input drops from the PS3 version, yo we in there!

They seem to be tossing out screens and such pretty liberally. I’m hoping we get a release window announcement in April. I love SF, but there’s this weird ā€œlike it a bit moreā€ hype around KoF… In a dream world, it’ll arrive in the summer with Vanessa on the roster…

As for the 2D/3D artwork/model stuff, it’s very subjective. If the artwork is drawn to specifically reflect the 3D models there is no reason it can’t work.

The Koreans gonna stream HDR? It good to see that game still getting love.

Using 2D art in 3D games has it’s place, but it makes less sense as the devs start to funnel money into trying to make ā€œexpressiveā€ 3D models. If you spend all that extra time rigging and placing bones to get emotions on the characters faces, why diminish the impression of that work by tossing in artwork that’ll feel different?

In a Pixel art game, Hand Drawn art is basically a more detailed version of what the pixels are representing. In 3D, more and more often, the 2D artwork is just a modification of the 3D (Most of SFIV and V’s in game artwork are just touched-up versions of the 3D assets, not fully original drawings).

Also, if you’re able to load the 3D model in the character select, that’s 1 less thing you have to load before the match. It’s a good way to try and diminish load times, since you can stagger it this way. It gets more and more difficult to do this as your roster gets larger, which can be shown through Killer Instincts character select, which acts laggy due to this, and it’s original file structure apparently not being as considerate of how to handle these things as it could have been.

I hope they have special unlockable ā€œEdit Teamā€ art in XIV’s arcade mode, at least.

This stuff was always fun.

Snk should release some promotional art though like what Namco does with the soul calibur series, I want a sick ass KOF XIV poster made by hiroaki.

Anyway I always preferred in game sprites over 2D art, in the case of KOF XIII instead of placing high res 2 art as character portraits and cutscenes they would’ve drawn the characters in the same style as the sprites. That’s how most KOF games were made but I’m positive it’d have taken another 3 years to complete at the least before the entire team committed seppuku.
