Because it was a brand new game brand new series, everything else was being recycled from previous games, i mean snk were still running the ss4 engine for there last game around 2005 ish which was around since 1996, it’s just a matter of costs, much the same way capcom was running that morrigan sprite for a decade
And no not everybody liked that look, i for one didnt like it, i didn’t like it for last blade i didn’t like it for garou.
I always found LB to be overrated, i completely disagree with madegg, those characters like shingen okina were boring as fuck, in fact lb was the first series where i actually hated characters.
I mean there’s always something in a character that you might like or that draws you to them, the way they sound they look how they play or there moves and shit.
for me some characters in lb have no redeeming features at all, dont get me wrong i like some of them to, but they are too and far between i for one am glad the series died and i wouldn’t like to see it back
Oh well, I really liked Last Blade 2. The main issue with Last Blade 2 which was wack was mainly a lot of infinites in the game and the imbalance between the top tier and the rest of the cast even without infinites. I like the game feel more than the Samsho series as much as I like Samsho. I guess another thing I am not fond of is how jump-happy the game is thanks to the Deflect button and Kagami’s jumping attacks being really good.
Also if I recall correctly, the reason why SNK went bankrupt in the first place is that they tried to do projects like KOF2000, Last Blade 2, Garou Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug 3, and a bunch of high end projects all around the same time. Someone could fact check me because I’m unsure, but it’s not necessarily the Capcom vs. SNK deal that put them under. It’s more like the Capcom vs. SNK deal didn’t help them out of a situation that they were already facing due to other factors and circumstances.
With that said, I don’t think they have the man power to do a game in 2D unless the assets are already made. With KOFXIII, I think they already finished those characters they weren’t able to finish such as Chang and Oswald (just speculation.) If they wanted to release a KOFXIII UM, they could have their spriters just finish up characters that were in the Ash Saga and put them into a final KOFXIII update. With making a new game like a brand new Samsho or Last Blade, I think doing the game in 3D will save them plenty of time and find the resources and man power to create 3D. As said in the interview, it’s difficult to find new developers that are familiar with sprites and in the creation and programing of sprites. So I’d rather them take an Xrd/Okami approach to Samsho and Last Blade instead of going to sprites.
Truth be told, I want to see a revival of Ikari Warriors done in a fast paced third person shooter like Vanquish but with the over-the-topness of something like Bayonetta. I’d want to see Athena/Psycho Soldiers perhaps redone as an action rpg or something like Tales of series. If something like Kid Icarus could make a come back, I can picture the Athena series being able to come back. Even for Psycho Soldiers, just have Athena Asamiya guest in IdolM@ster Platinum Stars or something. Then there would be a new relationship between SNKP and Namco Bandai.
I just really hope that Leyou/Ledo could really make use of SNKP IP to its fullest.
I like your point of view and arguments in this aspect.
No one commented on this point graphical/engine (not sure if you will agree):
Before all of the announcement of the new KOF, with the acquisition of the SNK by Leyou / Ledo, the information until then we had was the partnership with Tencent.
The graphical engine of Xuan Dou Zhi Wang , for me, marry perfectly with the KOF universe (serious graphs style and not anime) that the series has. I believed that with the partnership, this really would be the graphical engine until the final announcement.
I have nothing to complain about, I love KOF, I play casually since 94 and into the competitive scene at the beginning of XIII … Oda along with the team is working hard so that the final product to be very good (and I believe it) and step by step improvements are emerging.
PS: Sorry for poor English (my second language). Nice to meet them.
Can’t quite put my finger on it. A lot of them just don’t resonate with me, I guess.
There are quite a few exceptions to, mind. I can name at least 10 characters that I like a lot, design-wise, so I don’t lack cool-looking characters to pick*, but that still leaves a huge portion of the cast in the “meh”-category.
not that this is a huge consideration when I pick characters. I think Benimaru looks pretty idiotic in his pre-XIV incarnations, but he’s still my favorite character in XIII.
I recall being told by nobuyuki that the current build of KOFXIV looks better then the recent reveal trailer. It’s too bad the gameplay demo we just saw recently is the same build as the PSX as it makes it impossible to tell what graphical improvements have occurred.
I heard there were slight alterations in game play for the Taipei build. I think they added in Advanced Cancels or something like that where you can cancel a DM into another DM. Dunno what meter requirements are needed for that though. I may have to look at that footage again of Oda vs. RB, but I don’t want to since they played kinda bad. I’m that nitpicky when it comes to watching game play. I don’t mind playing against “trash,” but watching bad play is a totally different ball park for me unless I’m doing it for analysis to help other players out and give feed back.
Did you ever try to do dream cancels in the PSX build?
Either way, the one we saw was one bar super into 2 bar cancel, whether that means it was into an EX super or cancelling used a bar itself, but given that all super cancels in XIV don’t cost meter I find the latter kind of unlikely.
These are screencapped images of YouTube videos. The important thing to note of course is the KOF image is from the demo oda played which is obviously a unfinished game. At the very least KOFXIV will be graphically on par with SF4 and yes I know that isn’t exactly acceptable for a 2016 game but hopefully people can stop saying its PS1/PS2 era game when clearly it is not.
