SNKP should seriously add 3 players local Co-op mode for story and versus cpu modes (and online too)

it may not seem like a big deal since players can just pass a controller around if they want to co-op in those modes,
however OFFICIALLY establishing a co-op mode for KOFXIV, would greatly generate more interest from people that seek more games to play with others locally. and it does add a bit of PVE to KOFXIV besides the PVP the genre is known for.

I really like how games like the SNES FF rpgs and Fatal Fury 1 pursued to bring more cooperative ways to play genres that were exclusively about single player or PVP only.

KOFXIV is going to feature 3 players vs 3 players online matches option, the offline/local modes should feature 3 players local co-op. the PS4 can handle 3 controllers, having that feature can get more households to play KOF XIV together cooperatively (which could get more families to play it that don’t like fighting each other but would team up to fight CPU).

KOFXIV could really raise the standards for fighting games co-op in general. it’s still taking turns, but you know nice groups let the less skilled friends go first, so they all have a chance at getting a turn.

Plus they could add trophies for beating the story/arcade mode in 2 to 3 players co-op. overall an easy to add option like that, and promoting that along their list of options, would make KOF XIV something more to more people.

and it would make the first KOF that isn’t just for fighting friends, but also teaming up with 2 to 3 friends locally besides online.

Plus if they make the highest difficulty settings have more incentives to beat them, that can make co-op more valuable for that.
since they have 3 players vs 3 players online for Versus,
they should support 3 players vs CPU in story/arcade mode online too, that would be awesome.

and they could have 3 players co-op (local and online) in a survival mode against increasing difficulty of opponents.
things like that can make things even more interesting and add more dimension to the genre, and also give more to do when some players might get sick of the PVP abuse and want something that players can enjoy together vs CPU. :slight_smile:

but yes it all starts with establishing official local and online 3 players co-op modes, they could even set adjustable rule options, like every match, the team order could cycle so everyone can be leader at least once within a set of 3 matches, and maybe they could get more creative like add more challenging modes that enhance co-op experience and stuff, both local and online:

yeah I say a combination of 3 controllers co-op support + really challenging modes/difficulties for story mode, survival mode, etc.
can make KOF XIV the Dark Souls of fighting games (that can be double and trio cooped offline and online). :slight_smile:

They will probabily make some good quality artwork later on. But I don’t think it will be 2D, but a retouched 3D one.
Just compare the kyo/Iori portraids with the Andy Bogard one… the quality difference is abismous.

About the overall graphics, there are two artstyles that always were ALL ABOUT KOF to me:

Of course there are a lot of work to do, but we can see that they are trying diferent shaders, and the graphic style is getting better and better, as we can see in the last trailer. And they are not going into cell shaded, cartoon, or anything else easier to do, but trying to find out a visual style that resembles the classic games, but still being new.

My biggest worry since the first trailer was the game animation, that was horrible. But from the 2nd trailer and on, they showed really good and fluid animations.

that’s right. I do agree, KOF95 and 98 do have among the best art styles in the series. I’m glad they aren’t going for celshaded/2D anime look. it’s messed up Bloodstained seems to go in that direction, but its great KOFXIV’s leaders have the integrity and greater taste to present KOFXIV with a better art/graphics style that is pure KOF. it would have been nice if they made Kyo more meaty like in KOF99, he looks a tad skinny here, but he started out that way in KOF94 anyways. But what are they going to do with Terry? buff him up like KOFXII or slim him like the classics? They kept the buffed look of Ralf and Clark even though they weren’t that much bigger than fighters like Ryo back then. their buffed up look does look better.

I’ve got the KOF '98 UM theme stuck in my head and it won’t leave.
Now I want XIV to have an intro like that.

Terry’s always been buff, especially throughout the Fatal Fury series and MOTW.

Still hoping they use the MOTW Terry for XIV.

It seems that KOF franchise’s long-term writer on background stories, Akihiko Ureshino is not involved in the KOF XIV.

Terry’s was buff, but KOFXII made him buffer than just buff (which I like both classic buff and buffed up Terry)

I hate MOTW Terry though, that is not the true Terry, MOTW Terry looks like MacGyver after his cool days.

MOTW ruined Terry’s look, Terry’s hair was cut (a hungry wolf wouldn’t do that to their tail!),
the jacket covered up his muscles (awful generic color too), NO HAT??? so lame.
MOTW Terry is like someone that was designed by the Gears of War developers. awful taste.

classic Terry is authentic Terry Bogard.

and remember back in 2000 when classic SNK said farewell to its fans, it used classic Terry’s look in the last group art.

classic Terry is the icon of Terry Bogard’s proper presentation and design. No one that respects Terry would mess with that timeless design. don’t mess with the fundamentals of a legendary SNK character like Terry.

Oh damn I legit thought they where comparing kof to another ps2 games, I was gonna say this is getting kinda old.

But it just goes to show that not everything is beautiful before it’s finished.

I have to joke here… looking at that banner of characters, you’d imagine someone from Mattel looking at this and going…
“Those would make a good line of dolls to sell to girls!”

So true. But hey, It’s better than KOF legos(which exists for some reason).

The one thing I am really bothered by in terms of the graphics style is how girly the men in KOF look now. They used to be manly like a 80’s shoen anime but now they look like k-pop pretty boys. On the plus side no one can complain about the women being sexually objectified in KOFXIV cause now the men are just as if not more pretty.
