Gotta admit, that was kinda lame.

I’m fairly certain they aren’t doing 2D art because of the move to 3D, they want people to get accustomed to that idea. It makes sense, that’s why even the in game art and promo art are CG, makes sense imo.

Then why Street Fighter and Tekken does it?

Capcom and Namco are not SNK. They do not have the same team, the same budget, the same goals, they are different people with different ideas. What they do is irrelevant.

I was just trying to point 3D graphics and 2D artwork are not mutually exclusive. SF and Tekken for example, have no problem using traditional artwork even when their games are 3D.

your both right, snk is not restricted to only 2d art, they already did this in the past with ff wild ambition and kof 2000.
however i also think this time around they will use 3d art.and thiere delaying it for until the ingame visuals are finalized.

This is their first foray into 3D with the mainline series and it’s a pretty big deal, both to them and their fans. This way it’s loud and clear that the series has moved to 3D no matter if you look at a screen shot, character art work in the game, a win screen or promo material. If you are an existing fan then your attention will be caught regardless, if you weren’t into KOF before then this might catch your curiosity.

When is this coming out?

2016 is the only announced date.

Glad to see they’re making progress. The way he said SNK instead of KOF kinda gives the leaked roster more credibility. Also…

KOF 5,110 already came out? :o

I thought it was a good idea to reserve the 2D style for smaller projects like make a garou2, samsho vii/last blade 3 or even metal slug with XIII graphics.

I’m thinking they should finish Garou Mark of the Wolves 2 in 2D and do a KOFXIIIUM, of course in 2D. I’d like to see new Samsho and Last Blade in 3D though but with Xrd-like character model warping and cel-shading to make it look like it’s 2D. To make it distinct from Xrd, I’d like to see thick ink-like outlines around models like they do in some of the Samsho art that mimics thick brush strokes found in Japanese calligraphy. I guess the closest thing to that kind of idea is Okami, but at least with the newly discovered Arcsys Team Red technique, SNKP could take that art style and make it even more 2-D like.

If anything, I’d like to see an SNKP & Arcsys collaboration for Samsho and/or Last Blade. I especially want to see it for Last Blade since I perceive the Guilty Gear series as the spiritual game-play successor to Last Blade.

I think KOFXIV’s graphics will be good when all is said and done. The trailers and gameplay vids don’t tend to the the visuals justice and the game only seems to look good in screenshots which is odd. Also did oda just confirm the leaked roster list is legit given he mentioned SNK characters and not just KOF characters.

I’m wondering if Nakoruru in Alternate World Team is a test bed for a new Samsho.

They better make her busted like in CvS1.

Yes, Last Blade was designed by a guy that went later to form Arc Sys, right? I think the game is extremely underrated, it had lots of cool characters like Okina, Shigen and Akari, some of them you can find big resemblances in the Arc System games.

If great art can return to the game, I would love a new Last Blade, but I don’t think the game was popular enough and I don’t think a new development team could make it an honor U__U

How come the graphics for last blade are so good compared to other SNK games. No joke, if SNK made all their future fighters with last blade level graphics but at high resolution I wouldn’t give a fuck about 3D graphics. On that not why doesn’t SNK just do that I’m pretty sure everyone would universally love that look

I know I’m late on this, but making saying that making promotional sprites is a ā€œwaste of resourcesā€ assumes that the graphics designers could spend their time on something else. This is often not the case. If you’re making the visuals, you’re likely good at that particular aspect of game development, and nothing else.

Also XIII was a very good looking game.

PS: because I’m bored, here’s the background of the computer I’m sitting on:

I don’t really like the design of most KOF-characters, but Iori is one of my favorite characters design-wise.
