KoF XIII General Discussion: Part II

I have yet to play an online match in this game. Not in any rush to do so either :stuck_out_tongue:

I need to customize some character colors badly.

Lot’s Mr. Karate’s and Takumas yesterday.
I was wondering, why does Takuma have Mr. Karate’s mask on sometimes?

Looking forward to today’s streaaammmm!!! Wanna see some NESTS Kyo.

takuma as an alternative costume/colors if you pick him than push select. This works for other characters too, such as elizabeth, yuri, andy, shen, beni etc.

Oh wow! I didn’t know that, thanks.

Kinda pisses me off that Takuma players are using the alt though. It’s just confusing.

How is it confusing? One takuma throws bean pies and the other one does a DP and really cool/badass divekicks. Also, takuma name is in white and mr.karate is in red. Keep that in mind to distinguish them.

I know, I play Mr. Karate. But when you see Mr. Karate vs Takuma and they’re both wearing the mask it just messes with my head. I’m like, “WHY IS MR. KARATE THROWING FIREBALLS!”.

I dunno, just seems unnecessary. I dunno, It’s just a bit annoying. It’s more confusing than a mirror match, IMO.

Their neutral poses are completely different. Mr. K’s is more relaxed and takuma has that ‘curled up’ stance to him.

LI Joe is enjoying that KoF XIII

Just got home from ncr. Had a blast playing and didn’t do too bad. Went 3-2 with my Clark/takuma/ralf team. I feel like my Clark and ralf are pretty solid and my takuma feels better than before ncr.

I feel like I leveled up pretty good this weekend and can’t wait to get even better

Flash doesn’t seem so keen on it, unfortunately.

:’(

Flash Metroid hates 3rd Strike too so his opinion is pretty worthless.

Must be playing all those new Capcom games making him hate KoF inputs. I felt that way playing anything after playing SF4/MvC3 for so long.

Keep in mind that Takuma was given the Mr. Karate alt back in the arcade, WAY before Mr. Karate was a full-fledged new character. So, back then, there was no confusion, it was just a cool alt that didn’t affect gameplay in any significant way.

Minor nit-pick, but Shen and Benimaru don’t have a second set of 10 colors to choose from. The characters with alt colors are Kyo, Andy, Joe, Takuma, Elizabeth, Raiden, Yuri, K’, and Ralf.

Glad to see some big-name players respect KOFXIII… but I’d rather see them put in work.

He just doesn’t like the inputs, not the game itself. On his stream the other day he was saying that the game was pretty decent, just not his favorite, which is fair.

Also, am I wrong for thinking Takuma is just flat out better than Mr Karate?

Yea, when KOFXIII was coming out, people who don’t play it kept hyping it up as this uber leet hardcore insane execution game without any shortcuts. That last bit in particular got beat over the head, KoF doesn’t have shortcuts.

I have no fucking clue where people get that idea, and it’s probably because the game still gets a lot of hype from people who don’t play it that just happen to hate Capcom. If I want to walk forward and QCF without getting a DP, I have to like, tiger knee the fireball. It’s pretty retarded and everyone who plays it knows about this. I almost always play charge characters in AE cuz of that shit. Sucks that I have to deal with it in KoF too, because I much prefer it.

What do game devs have against DP being strictly Forward, Down, Down-Forward?

No game is safe from f, qcf not ending up in a DP, it’s been a problem since SF2 because DP has more priority than QCF in input recognition.

The nice part about KoF XIII is that a DP won’t come out if you end in uf so you can avoid getting a DP.
Skullgirls has something similar because, again, f, qcf comes out as DP. If you do f, hcf, you’ll always get a qcf move.

@the7k: Fair enough. I’d still like it if Takuma players didn’t wear it. >.< Haha.

I think due to Takuma’s command grab he is probably a bit better. But it’s not like you can’t get the same damage with Mr. Karate. I also think Mr. K has a faster walk speed is a bit better and obviously his wake-up/anti-air game is far superior.
From what I’ve played I think Takuma is a little easier, execution wise.

Time will tell. It’s more about your play style anyway. If wanna play rush-down, pick Mr. K. If you like to zone and build meter that way, pick Takuma.

Mr. Karate is considered flat out one of the best character in the game right now, so yeah, you’re wrong.

But to add a bit more nuance: Takuma is good, and has great damage output, but so does Mr. Karate. Takuma’s air superiority is fantastic, but Mr. Karate’s is even better. The fact that Mr. Karate a can jump cancel his normals only on hit, allows for automatic hitconfirms of a bunch of single hits also gives him a leg up in frametraps and attack strings. Takuma doesn’t have much in terms of anti-air or reversals, Mr. Karate has a dp and his f,b,f+P actually functions as a pretty decent anti-air too that leads into a lot of damage.

The two characters have a pretty different focus though. Takuma’s meterless damage is really really high, for example.

On another note:

Congratulations with your top 8 placing at NCR Laban! (tied for 5th I think?), You’re probably not that happy with it, but I don’t care. Also Good job for beating combofiend, who is apparently maining this game at the moment, or is at least really into it.

Mr. Karate is certainly a Demon! Or Tengu, in fact.
He takes more skill than most characters, I think. EX Kyo <3 So easy! Haha.

Sorry, another question. Where is Ash best placed on a team? I wanna learn Ash better.
Also, Ash has nice legs… yeah it’s a dude… I said it.

Lol, Chris kof was my first loss so I don’t feel too bad anymore seeing as how he won it all.
