Shoutouts to Laban for showing people how to play KOF. I saw them alternate guards during that match with combofiend, well done. Good shit getting top 8. Those guys from Team Chaos ain’t no joke.
Nah, he had an earlier post that was deleted I think, said something like the only reason people like it is it’s all just going in, mindless offense. Flash is known for being very opinionated, people shouldn’t get too offended by what he says.
Flash also thinks SFxT is one of the best fighting games of all time.
I am just going to leave it at that.
Anyway to prevent ever being matched up with a known ragequitter? Just had my first in a long time with a guy on PSN named Disorder111. Would be nice if there was some way to prevent ever being matched up with that asshole. Was going to be my first win after a long losing streak too.
Edit: WOW, and another rage quitter: Shoryuken216. Have I just been lucky thus far?
And can someone explain to me how Leona is bottom tier? Because I haven’t won a single match against her.
Seriously - multiple times I have OCVed the first two characters and gotten absolutely steam rolled by Leona. Seriously, explain to me how the fuck she is so god awful, but I am absolutely raging at her right now.
I think I lost about twenty times in a row against this one Leona user. Didn’t win until he threw the match by not picking Leona. I can’t believe how much suck is in me, might be time to find a new hobby.
Nobody ever said she was god awful. That’s not how tierlists work.
Reasons why she lags behind on the rest of the cast:
- Her meterless damage output is so depressingly bad, you literally can’t play her anywhere but 3rd
- Her meter damage isn’t even that good. She needs to burn a lot of meter, and even then, it’s pretty meh.
- Her cr.B and cr.D don’t work to avoid even higher fireballs, which kind of forces her to abandon her ground game a bit quicker than in older KOFs.
She’s still decent though. Like, she has all the tools she needs to be good, except for damage.
Also, she’s a lagtactics beast. That air super of hers is practically unpunishable on block in the shitty online, and if you pressed anything at all and the opponent throws it out randomly, you die.
On the topic of the Takuma vs Mr. Karate debate:
I honestly feel two things are going on right now that is creating a rift between the characters, and that is people are overrating Mr. Karate and sleeping on Takuma. What’s really getting to people right now with Mr. Karate is his keepaway. His fireball has decent range, and while the startup isn’t the fastest and it’s not full screen, once the active frames start it hits the entire distance it covers instantly AND it can’t be hopped. I think though that once this tool is cracked or at least figured out to the extent where people can fight it, Mr. Karate is going to drop in people’s minds when it comes to tier positions. In my own personal experience it seems like characters with fast, long range pokes can really put a hurt on Mr. Karate. Ralf/Clark’s far C is a great example, they can essentially whore it out and if they’re in range to hit with it Mr. Karate can’t really do much except guess reversals, because if he goes for a fireball he’ll get stuffed in the startup.
And while he has better anti airs than Takuma, after that and his zoning, Mr. Karate doesn’t really have a whole lot else. His command grab is slow and has no priority, you almost have to bank on your opponent being tricked into thinking it’s his running animation, the EX is worthless for anything besides going through fireballs, his normals are faster than Takuma’s to some degree, but they still have the same terrible range, his Hien is pretty bad for anything outside of combos where as Takuma’s can be used to fly over lows reliably, he doesn’t have an anywhere juggle to capitalize off of sweeps, anti airs, or j.CD like Takuma can, and a lot of his blockstrings leave him too far away to maintain pressure with anything other than fireballs.
Meanwhile, for those who do play Takuma, I think people need to start using his stun combos more and try to get him back to Arcade status, because he still has the tools to do it. For 2 meter and full drive, you’re dead. 100% damage, dead. And people say Mr. Karate has better reversals than Takuma, I think everyone is sleeping on EX command grab, which is invincible and leads to a full combo jump in and all, and the auto guard on QCF+BD or if you want to get risky QCF+D, which also leads into a pretty decent juggle. While Mr. Karate is capable of harassing you, I think Takuma is better at pressure and causing absolute pain. Any stray hit can go into a fbf+AC into drive cancel 80% and you’re done, he’s got stun combos out the ass, high damage everywhere, great pressure options, full screen instant punishes that can be super canceled into heavy damage, and one of the better command grabs in the game.
It’s popular right now to say that Mr. Karate is top tier, but I don’t really agree with that personally. I think he’s definitely high tier, he’s a very solid character, but I think most of what people are saying makes him strong is just coming from how new the game is. I also personally believe that Mr. Karate and Takuma are about equal, but they have different strengths. Mr. Karate is definitely one of the best point characters in the game, and Takuma is one of the scariest anchors.
And there’s my wall of text. Maybe no one cares, maybe I’ll get insulted for saying Mr. Karate isn’t top tier, I just felt like saying it.
Untrue. I don’t think F QCF dps have been in any Marvel game, and pretty sure SF2 did not have it. ST certainly didn’t. If you ended in F then you just got a QCF move.
But F QCF isn’t the only input problem KOF has. Why is HCB +F a shortcut for DP?
XvSF and ST both have it, actually.
In KOF, SNK made it so that you can use forward for the last direction of a DP, i.e. 626 is a valid DP motion. It’s just something they did to make it easier to execute.
I find it hard to anti-air peeps with Takuma sometimes, c.C and s.D can only work so far, and I haven’t got ex command grab to work reliably yet. It’s easier if they keep hopping on you because you can trip guard into ex command grab and into a juggle, but like coming right at you from an angle with a normal out, it’s gets painful sometimes. I’ve even used Neo Max as an anti-air once just to be sure lol. Wish he was his KoF98 self so I could just super on reaction no matter what!
You don’t really AA much with Takuma. Your best options are: Jumping CD (GDLK priority!), EX Super, or Neomax. That’s it.
Difference between Takuma and Karate in a nutshell: Takuma excells at zoning and has devastating combos based off of a command grab. So if you can get his grab combos down you can wreck shit. Karate has no real bad matchups and can do pretty much anything, much like EX Iori, but he doesn’t have the damage that Takuma has. Plus I don’t think anyone has figured out Karate’s counter moves or EX Projectile yet.
Yo still have no internet at home, but sorry for not placing higher. Need to get used to playing tournies and figuring out people in 2 games. But thanks for watching and thanks for the support/hate. Take it easy guys and hope to see you at EVO. Hopefully we’ll have a BYOC corner where we can run a special live Quick Max tutorial corner and help people get better.
On a different note, VF5FS was mad fucking baller and Sebo helped me out quite a bit to understand the game. I got bodied but I loved the fuck out of this game. It’ll be up there with KOF for me.
Peace out everyone until I can get internet again.
This is another thing people say that I just don’t agree with. Takuma CANNOT zone for very long at all. He can get out maybe one or two fireballs, but he is simply not capable of playing a ranged game. His fireballs that go full screen have a pretty long start up and CRAZY long recovery. Someone could easily get in on him after throwing a single fireball, throwing two is almost a death wish at certain ranges. On top of the stubby normals he really just can’t do anything else but get in someone’s face.
Also, st.A and cr.C are pretty godly anti airs at times. Cr.C especially has been really surprising, I’d love to see some hitbox data on it because I swear to god on startup it shrinks his hitbox down to the damn ground. You have to react a little faster with it because of the slow startup, but that move has been good to me.
I wouldn’t say Takuma is a Zoning master. He’s not like Saiki or Athena, he’s a little more like Ash in that he’s trying to force you to do shit and once he gets in (The major point I was trying to make) it could be absolutely devastating with Takuma if he has full Drive Cancel and 2 bars it could easily be GGPO.
actually that doesnt work for dp, but 6326 does. and mr karate is much, much better at zoning because he can zone in the range where zoning counts in this game, mid-range. having his palms + the best normal dp in the game is better than having full screen fireball and weaker anti airs.
I just tested 626 in frame advance in 98 and 2002 and it works. It just has to be done so fast that it’s hard not to hit additional directions.
Laban, come out to Bay Area more, Christian and I need to XCOPY Iori strats.
MLG is saying KoF will be at Anaheim but at a reduced pot ($5K) most likely due to the fact Columbus had a low turnout (which a lot of us players knew would happen with the 3 week notice and WC being the bigger KoF scene).
They made a mistake and have less money to give now. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bump up the pot like they did with MK though.
i meant in 13. maybe i didnt do it fast enough but 626 didnt work for me, wouldnt doubt if it still technically works tho.
Yo, STFU Guys, MR. KARATE is the best character EVER IN ANY GAME, EVER!
@Sparkster, I can recall you said you was gonna make a thing on how to deal with Andy, if you don’t have anything going on after doing him, could you do Clark? He’s just been a nuisance all around for me and hundreds of other players. I feel like I know some of the matchup exp down, but not the full potential.
