Gamestop told me Friday. I read the Famitsu score and i was shocked. 22/40.
damn it…Everything is happening starting the 24th…Possible release of KOF, HD Evo vids on IGN, few days later MvC2.
Im leaving for vacation tomorrow and where im staying theres no internet connection
That sux man.
Anyone play the arcade version? How good is it?
Very good.
gamecrazy if fucking retarded they told me they would have it on August 24!
NCSX still has the JPN release date for August 20th.
OMG the wait for this is worst than SF4.
I’m a little apprehensive about buying this, I like KOF but don’t love it. I have barely grazed the fighting system in Blazblue and fear if I buy this either KOF or Blaz will just get shifted to the side.
If you get KOF12 and you own BB, get ready to shift BB to the side.
That already happend sir and i’m waiting for kof12! It better be here on the 24th!!!:xeye:
Anyone get a call from Ashley yet? I think it’s about that time of the day…
I’m not sure if this has been posted here yet but apparently Weekly Famitsu has given a less-than-stellar score of 22 on their review of King of Fighters XII, citing its lack of single-player features:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175250
I mean, most of us fighting game enthusiasts will still pick it up (well, I know I will), but I’m kind of scared that the game may not attract enough new players to the franchise.
Attacking a fighting game due to lack of single player features when a fighting game is designed for multiplayer head to head action is fucking stupid. I have never brought a fighting game due to single player features.
With SF4, after getting all the console characters, colors and taunts I have yet to touch a single player mode since.
I know right, wtf, so :lame:
But then again, Famitsu is probably the Japanese equivalent to EGM or whatever lame mainstream gaming mag.
Actually READING the review makes me less worried than when I was simply hearing the score. Basically, the complaints lie squarely on the lack of Single Player modes and the small cast. As long as the netplay is good (which we don’t really get a perspective on, because netplay means significantly less there), the amount of single player modes really don’t mean anything in a fighting game. Yeah, they can be a nice temporary distraction, but if you have real people to play with, then chances are you won’t spend that much time in story/time attack/survival/quest modes. The cast size is small, but it doesn’t really seem like a deterrent, even for a team-based game. There are enough characters that, as long as the game is fairly balanced, we should see a nice variety of teams.
On the other hand, I do agree that this game may not attract as many new players as BB has. To be fair though, I didn’t think BB would attract as many players as it has so far (not to bash the game in any way, since it might be my favorite fighter of the year). I do think that Aksys really just stepped their game up for promoting BB. Yes, the high scores from multiple publications helped, but the well made trailers and widespread convention appearances certainly helped as well, and let’s face it, that limited edition at no extra charge really sealed the deal. This isn’t to say that Ignition isn’t promoting KoF to hell either, but I don’t think they’re doing it quite as well. I think the “Tournament Featurette” on Gametrailers was really pandering to the wrong crowd by focusing on silly crap like the “look-like-you-got-the-crap-beat-out-of-you” makeup booth or the cameos by actors from the KoF movie (even Capcom knew better than to associate with Legend of Chun Li). The lack of any sort of special extras or pre-order gifts hurt too.
While I don’t agree with the review, I can kind of understand it, given the Japanese version of the game’s circumstances. Since it is a review in Japan, we have to consider that the arcade scene there is much more alive than it is outside of Japan; so if a game doesn’t offer much more than the what arcade version of the game offers, that leaves very little incentive for someone in Japan to buy it. I just hope that the US reviews aren’t as harsh, because I definitely want a lot of people to pick this game up.
Man, depends on how big the community for the game is. I haven’t played a KoF game seriously before and SFIV is still keeping me entertained so yeah.
i hope kof xii will do well in consoles but at the arcade scenes it seems like the hardcore kof players still sticking to 98um and 02um. its probably going to be played out like kof xi then ppl gonna drop it and go back to the UM’s. Didnt know the reason why but i guess because it just doesnt feel like the previous kof they have enjoyed but its still good none the less.
Yeah, I now regret the bad feelings and things said after hearing the score.
Actually KNOWING what they said sounds much more reasonable than just hearing the miserable score.
They really liked the game, but bad score was wholly due to the lack of single player experience, but really, fighting games are for VS mode, everything else is just distraction. But I do understand the comment about how Japan expects more from an arcade port since arcades are healthy in Japan.

So yeah, the Famitsu score hurts but at least it wasn’t like the game is ‘dull and boring’ as stupid ass reviewers judged at OPM, OXM.
Whats really puzzling to me is I bought a OPM mag a couple months back because it featured KOF XII, even on the cover!
The article was ''12 Reasons KOF XII will rule over SF IV", and it was well written and even listen all the KOF games with mini descriptions released to the world so far, and then after all that, they give a shit score a month or so later, W T F
