KOF XI Thread :: Ver 2.0

Emil this is the KOF XI thread and the year is 2006. Please dont go off topic.

Also ready for the tourney bitches!!!

I’m asking if the strats used there are viable for Athena in kofxi. They say she sucks, I want to know how she was changed.

It’s like this…

02 Athena>>>03 Athena > XI Athena. XI Athena is 03 Athena only worse. She has few combos and tricks to exploiot and use to her advantage outside of her LDM. Which makes her the lowest of the low-tier characters in KOFXI behind Hayate and Whip.

I thought you retired?

That was discussed about a year ago look back into the first thread. Also ATHENA was my BEAST character in 2002, and my advice will be not to use her specially if you use her anything like that weak player in the video. Hopefully Im not wasting my time, cause from what I’ve heard you are a scrubb.

I am RETIRED but Im confident enough that the rest of you are scrubbs, and I dont have to play or train to beast on all of you.

RETIRED AND BEASTING

Athena corner combo: j.D, f+B, SCB XX LDM but you have to do SCB as soon as Athena lands, so the sphere hits while it’s on the bottom. Speaking of her LDM it doesn’t scale much in combos which is good for her.

The only good character on the Psycho Soldier team is Kensou. Wel…Momoko has some gimmicky stuff going for her but she’s not as crappy as Athena at least.

HaHa thats some beast shit, Good luck then.

Since DG said the tiers needa be redone I took a stab at it:

SSS: Gato
SS: Kula
S: Oswald, Eiji, Kim, Clark
A: Duck, Kyo, Ralf, Jenet, Maxima, Ash, Duolon
B: K, Terry, Malin, Iori, Gai, Kensou
C: Yuri, Benimaru, Adel, Shen, Elisabeth, Silber, Jazu, Ryo, Griffon, Vanessa,
D: King, Shingo, Mary, Kasumi, Whip, Ramon
E: Momoko, Hayate, Athena

Argue how right or wrong it is…

Why is whip in D? she sucks. I’ve stated in the past why. So why is she above momoko? Because theere haven’t been any good momo’s?

^ Pretty much(Waits for DG’s inevitable fillibuster). Basicly Momoko has:

-Terrible range on moves
-Most of Momoko’s moves are slow to come out
-Her hop game is pretty good
-Momoko has a command chain game
-Damage output is average at best
-She takes a LOAD of damage

Her corner headstomp gimmick is annoying and kinda tough to just roll by for some reason. She almost has to be played kamikaze-style rushdown(Ala NeoDio) since she has such poor defenses just my two-cents and SRK won’t lemme edit my tier list I’d stick her in front of Ramon.

From what I’ve seen from your joke matches, all of those japan and taiwan players are way better than you and k4ever. And I already beat you, but that’s irrelevant here.

I don’t know why Kim is up there with Oswald and Eiji, or why Clark is there.

I think that Oswald should maybe be moved up to SS with Kula. I realize he doesn’t have the crazy goodness of her, but he does have that corner infinite (it was confirmed as an infinite as the d/f+A hit them right before they touched the ground…right?); although it had real tight timing.

Thats incorrect.

Btw … this is for Arcade Fire and AAovermind : Check the tournament and events section plus the pacific south forum. Cal Poly Pomona has a great gameroom, plus they are making a KOF XI tourney the 10/07 saturday at 1pm. It will be good if you guys go there supporting the socal kof scene. Im going to try to go tomorrow around 12pm, so if u guys wanna have some comp … be there … or be square :lovin:

Someone told me that in that place, sometimes theres a korean dude that pops up and destroys everyone … I really would like to play him. I saw theres a 53 winstreak on the machine  … maybe it was him !!! o.O

Oh shi–

Kim’s stuff is like 100% safe on block practicly. Jump E can hit you twice in mid-air, jump C and D are crossups. His LDM is juggle-anywhere. Clark has uber-good priority. Once he’s in your face you’re just trying to get him offa you.

You kinda answerd you own question. Oswald is’nt as scrub-friendly as Gato or Kula, his bag of tricks takes some work to pull off. Plus he bascily has to get you in the corner for majoirty of his tricks. Once Oswald gets you into the corner then it is combo city, usually until either one of the characters (typically not the Oswald) dies, but outside the corner he only has the two major tools and they are not huge threats, it is easy to get you to the corner though if either lands.

reconchatumare speaks the truth on rolls. Rolls in XI are quick and the vulernable time at the end of rolls is pretty short. Kim is defintely in S, truly a beast.

BTW why make another tier list? Its already a good one

Hmmm, If I get a morning shift on that Sat. I might check it out:bgrin:

DG can’t accept teh fact that Athena blows. So he was like “Let’s redoo teh tierz lolz” In actuallity the only good person on the Psycho Solider team is Kensou.

You don’t seem to know the game well enough to make that call about Athena.

Your list:
SSS: Gato
SS: Kula
S: Oswald, Eiji, Kim, Clark
A: Duck, Kyo, Ralf, Jenet, Maxima, Ash, Duolon
B: K, Terry, Malin, Iori, Gai, Kensou
C: Yuri, Benimaru, Adel, Shen, Elisabeth, Silber, Jazu, Ryo, Griffon, Vanessa,
D: King, Shingo, Mary, Kasumi, Whip, Ramon
E: Momoko, Hayate, Athena

Problems:
At this point Kula is as good if not better than Gato for all intents and purposes. Clark isn’t that good (doesn’t abuse the system nearly well enough to be top tier). Oswald is better than the rest of the people you lumped with him (better combos, far more dangerous coming in off a QS). Duck and Jenet are better than everybody you lumped them with. Duo and Max shouldn’t be that high (Duo needs his LDM to be a major threat, Max is slow and gets rushed down pretty hard if they get in). You underrate some of the midbosses (Gai, Silber, Jyazu). Etc. etc. There’s nitpicky stuff as well but the overall gist is that you’re like half a year behind at least. You are a self-admitted casual player and while you aren’t entirely ignorant, you are lacking in your understanding of this game. That’s not necessarily a character flaw or anything like that, but you are jumping to unfounded conclusions when you don’t have the knowledge base to make those calls.

The most current Japanese list that I’ve seen (courtesy of Beast of Fire) is:

  1. Kula, Gato
  2. Oswald
  3. Duck, Eiji, Jenet, Gai, Kim
  4. Ralf, Clark, Kyo, Jyazu, Silber, Ryo
  5. Ash, K’, Terry, Maxima, Vanessa
  6. EVERYBODY ELSE

I disagree on a few points but they’re nitpicky and I agree with the overall idea that the Japanese have.

Hope this doesn’t come across as flaming or anything 'cuz I don’t mean it as such. Just debating what I perceive to be a very incorrect assessment of the current state of play.

So my opinion is taken less seriously since I said I play for fun? Wow…just wow. Guess I’ll keep my opions to myself.

Oh and BTW…your list is old(December to be precise) and is from Arcadia while mine is a modified version of a more reccent Jap tier list(April) but whatever don’t listen to me cause I’m a casual player what do I know? LOLERSKATES.

kim is almost the same as in his 2k2 incarnation but with some tuneups

his new followup f,fA fA to his sanren geki open to a bunch of new mixups and can cornerize your opponent well and easily
nice the fact that you can link ever crb crB crA into sanren geki chains

his hienzan is one of the few antiairs that kept the low startup incinvibility and i rarely lost or traded even to gato

his damage landed is nice as usual and one of the most important thing he do not rely on stocks until he’s leader

and his LDM is a bit weaker version of oswald’s and kula’s one
juggle anywhere (a nice use is to cancel the sweep into ldm) big damage when unscaled and followable in corner with his D stomp for additional damage

his DMs are a little weaker now compared to 2k2 especially qcf2B that have a very slow startup and is only useful in combo (crB crA qcf2B is still there)

air down B/D are useful to pressurize, for chip damage and to crossup an incoming
