You’re not, cause you’re already complaining about minor things and ignoring the fact that the actual gameplay (the only thing that really matters) is intact.
A LOT of PS2 fighting games have load times. Some disguise the time really well, but the loading is still there.
People aren’t defending the loading times. People just think the other stuff VASTLY OUTWEIGHS the loading times. PS2 games have loading times. We’ve gotten used to them over the past 8 years or so.
And, MAME? You’re comparing this to MAME? Do you WANT any new KOFs to reach the states? KOFXII looks fun…wanna play it? I sure do…
Umm…yes it sorta does, actually. The lower the price, the lower the cost of production had to be. What you want to have your cake and eat it, too?
“Hey SNK…I want a DIRT CHEAP 3-game compilation with near perfect game play, lots of extras, and 2 BONUS GAMES that weren’t even in the original version…but if there’s a single flaw I’m going to steal it on MAME instead.” That’s basically what you just said.
Why do fighting game fans hate fighting games so much?
In mame if you set the dips to home you can have training mode in KOF 98 and beyond.
Alright lone dragon, I lose the argument. There isnt anything I have left to say unless I want to look stupider than I already have.
I know ps2 games have load times and so do fighters. Like Tekken, 3s on AC has it too when you first boot the game. But I guess im really impatient, because everywhere I look theres a load time. When I pick a game theres a character portrait and command for a random move. When I begin a match theres a loading time. When I exit the game to go back to the main menu theres a a loading time. You may be able to deal with it and thats fine. But I can’t its really annoying to me, and I lose my patience really quickly. The load times arent really quick, wanna get on my case because I can’t stand a 10 second load time for almost everything? Then by all means come at me. I fucking hate it.
I guess i can just keep it for training mode, which is actually the only flawless thing in this collection. Note that I’m counting combos, controls, commands, hitboxes and all that other shit about game play when i say that about training mode.
EDIT: On the bright side, the mirror option for the training mode is really good. It helps you know what move trade with others and beat others. Since there are no missing frames of animation.
He has a point, quality should always come first.
Hey chopperman, i found out that the game stop that i work at does carry the game for ps2, it just wasn’t listed on gamestop.com so i gave up hope.
on that emulation arguement going on.
emulate for competition if it lacks in your area, purchase games to keep the companies porting stuff to the US.
thats how i’ve looked at it, besides not everybody has a computer that runs emulation well (me again, but my 60gig ps3 makes up for it)
I agree. I love KOF. If buying this game shows Playmore that I want to continue receiving it in the states, then so be it.
And legally speaking, what other way am I going to have to play these games. I sold my Neo collection years ago and don’t feel like digging out my Saturn when I can play it on my PS3 with a Saturn control pad. Hmm…deal with missing frames of animation, missing training modes and longer load times, rebuy another Neo Geo or MVS and the KOF games or just buy a near-perfect anthology for $15?
im looking forward to the collection myself, bummer about the music and bad latency issue between with load times but meh. You would figure SNK would learn quality control about now…
SNK puts in more effort for their newer games and remakes of older games. All of their new games/remakes are very polished quality-wise. It’s understandable why they don’t put in more effort for ports since they are a small company, and they don’t have the huge resources like Capcom does. I do agree with some of the comments here on the KOF 98’s announcer glitch. That was the only dumb part about this otherwise decent collection that is still worth buying for the old classics.
I just think load times are inexcusable in this day in age especially for 10+ year old tittles…quallity should always been at the forefront for any product.
Exaggeration.
Look, I’ll just summarize my overall point:
1 bad thing (loading) + 5 good things (94, 98, training mode, challenge/unlockables, 15 bucks) = buy
If you have cake, and you can’t eat it, what do you do with it?..Wait, don’t answer that. The last thing I need is a visual of some American Pie spinoff…
is it just me or is there no VS Mode in the ps2 version???
Please tell me you’re joking…
EDIT: So I’ve been told you have to start an arcade mode THEN have Player 2 hit start to do VS.
well my friend can challenge me in the middle of arcade mode, but if i beat him, i can’t switch teams, i gotta wait for him to beat me. did i miss a crucial menu choice way in the beginning??
Arcade games are like that. You play on 2DF/GGPO and you gotta lose to change your team.
I believe tournaments use that too.
Yeah man you definitely got a point there, and I mentioned that same exact point about a couple of months ago; while Capcom been sitting on their asses and coming out with stuff other than fighters, SNK been doing it big point blank, no doubt about it. And I still don’t understand why the fanbase hasn’t grown on KOF’s front because of it…sigh…I’m definitely getting this game though as soon as I get some more cash on me…this and 98UM if it ever comes out over here:woot:
Woah, no versus mode is a bummer. Arcade/story, Versus, Training and Options should be standard since Alpha 1 PSX/Saturn came out (every game since then has copied it).
And everyone needs to remember this anthology was done by SNK Playmore USA not Japan. And we should just enjoy it for what it is. We still have KOF 98UM and KOF2002UM plus XII on the horizon.
yes but… This. Is. Not. The Arcade. It’s a console port. even the AES version of Neo Geo had it, and that’s the original builds.
KOFXI, KOF98UM, KOF2002, SF3:3s, MVC2, CVS2, and pretty much ALL console fighting games before it have something of a versus mode. a REAL ONE.
I mean, i’d buy it cuz its the only console KOF96 & 97 that works with my sticks but… This is kind of bullshit…
Yeah I never understood that saying, its really fucking stupid. You place a food item in front of me and say I can have it but cant eat it. It’s like what the fuck else im gonna do with it? If you give me cake of course I want to fucking eat it!
It’s almost like saying “You cant have a wife and fuck her too” or like Hatred Edge says “You cant have your porn and fap to it”. It’s a stupid saying =/
:u:WTF dude?
Of course it’s bullshit. There’s no reason for it to be like that at all.
