KOF Maximum impact regulation a thread

not a lot of people seem to play it, there’s a lot more to the game then meets the eye, thats for sure. Seems to be a lot more to the system then a 2d KOF game anyway. Sabaki and side steps really shake things up. It is played more internationally but i think the asian scene is no longer active, but was when the game was new… probably waiting for Regulation A2. It’s a great mix of 2d style in a 3d environment. You just can’t get a good feel for the game in single player mode unfortunately, just combo practice, because sabiki and other things in the system shine in 2p mode.

Seems to be more matches on youtube however they aren’t that great, just a rape fest, but expect a LOOOOOOOOOOT of matches after MWC

Yeah you can say that again…expect a lot of MIRA matches post MWC.

Better be some Kyo and Xiao straight ripping through some fools.:nunchuck:

billy/ash/JIBAHTOMAAAAAAAAAAAH

You are gonna surely see some Xiao…

Agreed on both accounts.

It took me a while to get used to bait sabakis…(ex, Billy doing an obvious, but effective move, which you of course, sabaki…however, his counter to that is already planned out and inputs are being buffered int he meantime)

and YouTube matches really piss me off. Too often I’m scratching my head saying, ‘Tech roll…please?’ or just really wanting to see if some of these strats I see actually hold up.

the tvs at anime central were laggy for ps2s so we ended up playing xi all day, and while laggy it wasn’t terrible… savin mira for MWC i guess haha

edit, ok i take that back, devildigimon didn’t run the tournament until saturday or sunday when he knew I wouldn’t be there, which I must admit was one of the best strategies for winning ever (he ended up winning with 16 ppl entering). He’s gonna really get it when he gets home hahahaha

just wondering if you guys ended up playing maximum impact at c3…

Nah, 4649 kinda got screwed over by his job so he didn’t get the time off.

;; ;; ;; ;;

i was practicing this tonight and thought of you guys, lol
i finally figured out how to do UZ’s Mai corner mixup after like a bajillion years!
cr.lk~s.hp~tap s.hk- Mai will do a command shorthop and you can either air lk~hk or d+lp into one of her command dives ( you can’t do qcb+p dive though )
its weird, on some stages / against some characters she’ll cross them up or land behind them?

Excuse my late post. Thanks guys for the replies. I’m still unsure as to exactly where this game stands in the community though. I don’t hear that it’s bad, yet I don’t hear praise. I know…nothing lol. Anyway, ya I got the game now. Glad I didn’t drop $40+ on it by going ebay like I originally wanted. It doesn’t even have a real arcade mode. I understand that it’s made to be a straight from arcade port perhaps. Problem is, enough people don’t play it from what I gather, so it being barebones in the extras department for the sake of competitive play doesn’t work too well here imo. You can do this for other games(T5DR) that have a decent scene but this game probably could have got so many others hooked if it wasn’t stripped down to be essentially just strictly versus mode.

I’m really loving the style, flash, flair, music, etc. I said over on Dloop that this game could probably be KOF’s 3s if Garou didn’t exist. But I also found that it seems a noob player can look amazingly good at this game. My little sister was doing shit that, if you didn’t know anything about the game, you’d think she was a good player. How deep is this game? I was fucking around with B.Jenet and doing some easy ass infinite setups if only it wasn’t for some random ass thing preventing my combo from continuing. I figured I could get around that and I did, but only for a few more hits. This game is fun enough though. Was it EVER played competitvely in any U.S. tourneys? MIRA2 must be coming out pretty soon for this to seem forgotten or not get played more. Weird when you consider it dropped on ps2, when, late 2007? Oh yea, I never had/played MI2 so maybe people played the shit out of that and don’t bother with this? I’m considering getting that just to know a story and who the fuck these characters are. (Jivatma, not who, but WHAT, lol).

Also, if you guys don’t mind, could someone briefly give me a general overview of the system and maybe a tierlist? For some reason I’m thinking Mai is up there. And Blue Mary seems better in 2D.

Bumpity.

Yea, this game coulda/shoulda had a lor more features. Especially since they wanted 60 freakin bucks for it.:shake: Mai’s pretty nasty, as well as Nagase and Wild Wolf. There are others, but I forget. I don’t play anymore.

Mai is A or B class

Mary is more like C,D class, but against people that don’t know how to play against her, she can clear a team with no problem with her tricks

the main thing is figuring out damaging combos and just doing those when you have the opportunity, figuring out which moves are safe and not safe, figuring out the sidestep and sabaki systems. There’s a lot to this game, and that’s why I find it very interesting.

MWC is going to be the first regulation a tournament as far as I know in the US.

I’m gonna win MIRA at MWC and then take a dump on your controller.

But we need to get some casuals in some time before next week. @_@

my current up to date thoughts on tiers

s: wild wolf, xiaolon, ash, kyo, mr karate
a: richard, chae, billy, kula, athena, luise, iori, mai, lien, kim, maxima, leona, ninon, geese, b.jenet, rock
b: kyo-C, clark, mizoguchi, ralf, terry, nagase, hanzo, soiree, alba, k’, yuri, jivatma, duke, mignon, fio, ryo
c: hyena, mary, seth

at this point i dont think that anyone in the game has any particularly disparaging matchups honestly. everyone can win, and no matchups stand out as being outstandingly difficult- there are difficult circumstances you can force your opponent into, yes, i.e. being zoned by ninon exploding fireball forever and being trapped in the corner versus a wild wolf break mixup - but no scenario in the game is impossibe. there are also no infinites you will see in competitive play- that jivatma inf was discovered to be pretty much a gip, far too difficult and situation / character specific.
there are still some rankings here i feel might be undeserved / wrongly placed but for the most part until this game sees an extreme amount of high level play on the part of US players ( not likely ) or gets a sequel my thoughts on it probably won’t change by much

IMO I think MIRA is much better balanced than the 2D KOFs. If Reg.A2 imporves the lower rank cast members making for an overall really balanced, powerful cast, the MIRA2 will take the spot as my favorite KOF.

Jiva is A in my opinion

best down a in the game!

how do you figure? its 9 frames, which is good don’t get me wrong, and it travels fairly far but a big amount of the cast have 7 frame cr.As that lead to much better damage

It has good range and it’s his combo starter. Not a lot of characters have (good) low combos that start with down A, they have to use down B instead, and it ties with those moves as far as speed. Jivatma is so easy to play but setting up getting d+A to hit is the core of my game with him. If they whiff someting or do an unsafe move, just down A. The main thing is though, they don’t even have to whiff something from that far away for it to hit. Vids will be up for MWC and this guy is pretty much my main. I don’t play jivatma like trash like DG did in his vids.
