Anyone got any Lien or Leona strats for me?

Leona is kind of a “Make them pay” type of character (or at least how I use her). I know that I’ve always had to be patient when I was using her against others mainly cause she doesn’t dish out as much damage as some characters and can’t take damage like some characters (mainly Duke). What Leona does have on her side is undoubted speed along with probably the best juggles in the game (that do good damage despite damage scaling).Granted you’re probably going to be using only one SA to start up over and over, there are other good starters, which is 3A,C,C. This SA, stopping there and not finishing the string, allows you to connect a good number of her other string such as 3D,2D for a knockdown or 2C,2C,2CD for a juggle.

Follow ups after she knocks down…

No meter:

  • 2B * 2B * 2B,B,D
  • [4]-6B-6D (this one you’re going to have to charge while preforming the knockdown)

1 meter

  • 2B *2B *2B,B,236236A/C

2 meter

  • 2B *2B *2B,B,2141236B (D version doesn’t lift opponent)
  • 2B,B,236236A/C [rush in]2B*236236A/C

… and so on.

After Juggle…

No meter:

…not much but they do the trick.

Now if you were to hit a Grateful Dead on someone without OTGing them, you can actually get six otg hits in instead of the normal five. Weird but it’s true. Sorry this seems a little sloppy, haven’t really worked on my guide in a while and I’m going in alpha order so Leona is a bit further down.

Ultimate Kula strat: knockdown into otg. That’s it, add some DM’s in there as well.

Thanks, I used to spam 2c,2c,2c+d, jump,2b,2c,2d, air dm whenever I got the chance and that was about it.

Good thing about Leona is that she can still do her jump in jump out super combo :stuck_out_tongue:

I like her new stuff though. She’s quite fun…and she has cool OTG combos. yay~

B punisher for most unsafe moves -

1 stock - B,D,3+C, Charge 4,6 B, 4,6 B, 2C, lvl 1 super (57 dmg)
2 stocks - B,D,3+C, Charge 4,6 B, 4,6 B, lvl 1 super (63 dmg)
2 stocks and far from wall - B,D,3+C, Charge 4,6 B, 4,6 B, Charge 4,6, B, 4,6, B, lvl 1 super (72 dmg)

Damage scaling seems to totally kill making long combos possible though, check this out…

3D,C, lvl 1 super is 52 dmg
3D,C, charge 4,6B,4,6B,2C is only 55 dmg

Even with some cool combos into escalation into dynamite spinning is just not worth it
It’s pointless to try to come up with long drawn out combos with her, barring her multiple straight slicer->stun fang chains

The best times to use escallation that I’ve found have simply been out of 214 D reversal -> escallation -> vertical arrow -> double snatcher -> dynamite spinning for about 100dmg
f+A into escallation isn’t so bad
neither is B,D

thats about it, anything longer just kills the damage, even 3 straight slicers in a row into escalation straight slicer into dynamite swing is still less than 80 dmg!!

That being said, I wish they would have put a little more thought into what is possible with her… plus more strings… doing B,D,3C is safe and good, I think her other strings kind of suck though. C,C is too slow and A,A’s range is terrible.

That being said, real counter can really kill sabaki mindgames, and is good to help her advance through fireballs with the help of B,D

Slicer is a good long range punisher, but because she can combo into it easily and it’s UNSAFE, it’s best not to just throw it out for no reason

B,D,3C gives you like 2 seconds to react to land a lvl 1 super

Mary snatcher is pretty good if you can space charge 2,8B/D or just do it out of regular jump if your opponent is getting defensive. Charge 2,8D,2C, lvl 1 isn’t bad (like 63 damge) or you can follow it up with multiple slicers to get them to the wall

I haven’t figured out anything to do at the wall that is good aside from lvl 1 super

lvl2 super sucks when you chain it with regular attacks to close to the wall, it only does half damage

Those are just my miscellaneous thoughts on Mary for now.

Well tbh, I know that it can connect but I rarely use it. I tend to lean towards finishing a string with Grateful Dead and continuing with 2B,B,236236A/C[x2].

i thought i would have fun playing chae lim but i don’t really know what to do in versus, and most people here would rather list off combos rather than strats, and i haven’t found any other place… also youtube is sorely lacking vids for the game even though supposedly it’s SNK’s top series. It is definately the best game they have made in a looooooooooong time.

her keepaway is a LOT better than i thought against specific character matchups, a lot of the cast needs very specific tools to get in on her.
i felt sad at how much i missed Nagase’s bnb in those matches, hopefully i won’t disappoint as much come October
your Duke and Eddie’s Duke have definitely made me rethink him, i’m thinking that in a week or so i’m going to entirely rewrite that tier list. :looney:

This is really true.

I did some practice with her over the weekend and found out two things, both of which seem kind of relevant to her play:

  1. (At Wall) Phoenix Arrow cancel to 234 x2 AC -> jump x N (with attacks, but not necessary), 423+C does in fact work. I’m not entirely sure why I thought it had been removed…it hasn’t. Granted, the damage isn’t spectacular or anything for the cost of 2 bars, but I’m sure that someone better than me will find a way to get every last drop of damage out of that.

  2. 2+CD -> 2+CD is both really bizzare and really good. Athena does a knock back attack and then sits and sings. She has a variety of weird attacks from there. It might not be the best strat to do when you’re behind in a fight, but as a mix up off knock down, there is potential.

Also, I am happy to find that Athena has one of her better chain combos in common with Duke. (a a a C b D) So, she’s officially on my team now. It’s one less thing to have to try and remember mid fight. :sweat:

On the Duke front…

Like was said, he’s quite good in this game. He has real problems with both Soiree and Richard because of their crazy low hit game. What I need to incorporate more of falls into two areas:

  1. His standing C+D is f’n good. I didn’t realize how good until I played it over the weekend. Autoguard and foward motion. It might have some lower invincibility (not sure though…) which none of his other autos have.

  2. Many of his chain combos have a cancel in them. At some point you hit C+D and he just kind of puts his chest out to autoguard. That’s the safety net he really needs for when you miss a stylish set. The follow up hit after the auto is slow, but may be unblockable (It always hits when I’ve done it, so that’s unconfirmed for now. Opponents may just be messing up).

Lastly. I hate Richard so very much. His 234+ kick crosses you up on block at random. This is the kind of thing that causes domestic violence…:annoy:
