KOF 13 coming to Steam!

Final verdict regarding the netcode:

1 Bar: unplayable. Underwater.

2 Bars: decent. Like a good connection on PS3 where it’s delayed but it’s still playable and you can still block jump ins and crossups.

3 Bars: Damn good. Only slightly delayed, think GGPO at a delay of 4. Really good.

4 Bars: GDLK! Not too many of these but when you find one play him, it’s almost offline.

If 3-4 bar connections suck for you then get better internet. SNKP has been redeemed. Let’s hope the UM titles come to Steam and get similar treatment.

The 4 bar connection are basicly the same in quality when having a person sitting next to you on the couch playing against you, no lag what so ever. They only need to fix the cpu use / hogging. Cause that in many cases causes the fps problems i reckon. I love the fact that SNK tries so hard to make it a really good game and online experience. Version 8 is out btw.

the game uses a shitton of CPU power even in menus with static text and background

you people better post feedback on the Steam forums, otherwise topics of value get drowned in a bunch of horseshit from scrubs

The old happy days are back… good bye Capcom, farewell SF4…

3-4 bar connections work great. If they fix the stutter issues with the video KOF steam edition will be great.

It’s a beta. anything you do unlock may be gone once the game itself comes out.

So I’m new to KOF13 but I’ve played 98 before and I’ve watched a lot of matches for this, that being said I’d like to give my initial reaction to the Steam version

My computer has a Pentium G2020 processor @ 2.90 GHZ, 2GB EVGA GTX 650 Ti, 8GB ram, and I’m on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Speedtest shows that I get ~45 Down and about ~6 Up

Now then, the game itself when I’m actually in a match or training mode runs flawlessly. Inputs feel clean and precise at all times, never felt any jerkiness whatsoever. LOAD times however, are seemingly random for me. Sometimes it’ll go back to character select screen asap, sometimes when I want to go back to the main menu it feels like I have to wait an eternity

I just tried my first online match at a 3 bar connection with someone. Again, the match gameplay felt smooth and 3 bars felt crisp, no input problems at all, no random teleporting around whatsoever. The problem was that I have no idea what the other guys computer is like. The load screens just connecting to each other, and in between rounds, were what stood out as a possible issue

All in all, I think that this will DEFINITELY be worth picking up if you want to play this game online

Found a nice keybind setup for other board people. Switching the attack buttons to F1,F2,F3,F4 solves any problem of pressing three buttons at once.

My CPU is an old Phenom 1100t. The game loads 3 cores up to 60% most of the time.

Its kinda wierd…

the CPU issues are fixed in beta v9. for me the game sits around 15-25% in gameplay and 10% in menus.

i have this issue as well. game freezes for 3-5 seconds in a few spots (when loading character select, after selecting stage mainly). i think it’s a loading/caching issue.

it’s annoying, but i hope it’ll be fixed. gameplay runs great though

Thinking out loud for a second: I do wonder what kind of mods dudes will come up with? Other then Nude Mai pallets. Maybe KOF13 Koryu?

No issues in load times, by the way no loading times at all. But I use only SSD for gaming and my RAM is low latency, both make great difference here of course.

Only issue is CPU usage, if it was corrected then everything is flawless.

Edit: Didn’t notice they released another update already, that explains why loading isn’t a problem anymore

I’d like to point out that netcode impressions have been wildly fluctuating from version to version, even from the same user in many cases. It is still in beta, and given the problems we’ve found during this period (to their credit, SNK has been pretty quick in addressing some of the more serious ones) it’s clear that means “early build to fix problems” and not “basically a demo to entice players; we’re pretty much ready to ship aside from stress testing” like some companies deploy late betas for. Making final purchasing decisions based on the state of a ‘beta that is truly a beta’ might not be the best idea. They’ve been pushing out new builds almost every day lately, and in a few cases it has been multiple patches in a single day.

The progress has been impressive, mind you. A week ago the game was unplayable for me. I don’t mean the online was unplayable; I mean even training mode was pointless due to a CPU load bug. They fixed that pretty quickly though, and I’m looking forward to trying out the online parts soon.

I’m optimistic about where this is going, but they still have a few things to fix before public release so definitely keep up on player impressions as things get closer to the launch date.

Despite a pretty rocky console-level first impression from myself when I pre-ordered it, I’m pretty confident now that they’ll smooth things out for the games full release. Ran some sets with some guy in Brazil (I live in Scotland) last night and it was actually playable.

Well, I can say that the brazilian scenario is one of the worst possible: slow internet speeds, inconsistency, etc. To add more issues my modem is wireless, so I think it is a good way to test the netcode.

From what I experienced these days I can rate stuff as follow:

1 bar - Unplayable.
2 bars - Noticeable input lag, but somewhat playable.
3 bars - Quite decent. Just as 3 bar SF4. Some stutter here and there.
4 bars - Almost offline. Very good.

Hey guys really want to purchase this but since I don’t really know all that much about PC gaming I was wondering if you guys could tell me if my specs are at least somewhat ok to play the game at playable level…

Processor: Intel Core i5-2540M, CPU @ 2.50 GHz
RAM: 6 gigs
system type: 16 bit

um…don’t know if thats good or bad lol, i appreciate any replies

from what you posted i would be surprised if you couldn’t but just to be sure what graphics card do you have?

16 bit? With a Core i5? IMPOSSIBRU!

Your processor/ram setup can handle it by far. Video card and storage config will help stuff run faster, load times, etc.

I bet your ram is 3-channel 1333 mhz, isn’t it?

RedVega: I’m a little puzzled at how you have a 16-bit OS given the CPU you mentioned. Can you be a little more precise? With your hardware I am instead expecting you are on windows xp, vista, or 7.

That said, your hardware is fairly close to my own and once they fixed the heavy CPU load problem a few days ago I’ve found it has run very well. There are still tiny snags here and there they need to iron out, but it’s running almost perfectly on my system. I reasonably believe, but do not warranty or guarantee, that your system can run KOF 13; only the OS is in serious doubt, because KOF might not (probably won’t?) run on certain earlier versions of windows.
