Kneel Before SRK - The Man of Steel Movie Thread

Also, I wonder when they will announce the villian/s? It seems like that builds more excitement than anything with the Batman movies. I guess the Iron man movies did prove that you don’t really need high profile villians but I think that the villian choice will say a great deal about the direction that they are planning to take.

The first post lists Zod.

:sad::sad::sad:

I haven’t read any comics in a very long time.

Damn, did not notice. I was reading about it somewhere else and they said that the villian was uncomfirmed. I hope that they use the armored looking version from the comics.

There are more bad Superman comics than any other sort of Superman story.

That said, if you don’t like the character in any of the staples–the 1978 movie, the animated series, or many of the comic titles that regularly get mentioned by the comic book guys around here–then there isn’t much helping you.

Personally, I don’t like Batman. All those nippled batsuits, day-glo sets, big grins, and “ol’ chum” this, “ol’ chum” that? Man, what a silly character.

Has frank miller ever written a superman story? I would definitely look into that. Only problem is that he would make lois a prostitute.

that would be all kinds of awesome.

I am pretty sure Frank Miller is not terribly fond of Superman.

A Frank Miller version of Superman would make a great graphic novel: Superman moves to a crime ridden seedy city, in hopes of inspiring others to do good. But instead of Supes changing the city for the better, it is the city who changes him. He is slowly but surely corrupted. He meets some hot hooker piece of ass, and abandons his marriage with Lois. I envision it being something like Filthy Rich by Azzarello.

imo

I figured that it would be like no mans land where he creates more problems than he fixes when he comes to Gotham.

“We kept our masks on. It’s better that way”. Fucking epic, LOL.

Frank Miller has consistently written Superman as something of a buttmonkey who never gets anything done unless somebody’s telling him to. In DKR, it was the government. In ASBAR and DKSA, it was Batman himself.

(The Batman of those books is basically a lunatic, so this isn’t a terribly good thing.)

I don’t think Miller finds superheroes very interesting unless they’re proto-fascists/righteous moral arbiters. Which is probably why he treats Superman the way he does.

I lent you the god damned All Star Superman trades for a reason. You didn’t even read them!

Fuck you, I was busy. lol

You must not have been watching the same movie as everybody else. Yeah, he didn’t have boxing gloves in his jacket or a joy buzzer of death, but Nolan’s Joker was a lot closer to the comics’ depiction than any previously. The practically framed him as an urban terrorist, which he is, and has been, since the late 70’s. Look up the laughing fish story.

I was very mehh about Returns costume, I hope they improve it in this one. Zack Snyder is very geeky in that department so I am sure that at least it will stay true to the character, not that Singer version didn’t, but there was something about the colors and the weird fabric they used that I disliked.

Don’t give me that shit. You sleep ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Set your alarm, open your eyes, and fucking read.

You’re seriously missing out on one of the most creative comic arcs of the last decade. Morrison has more ideas in one issue than most people have in 100+ issues of multiple titles.

Also, Superman, just like Batman, Spider-man, The X-Men, Wolverine, The Avengers, Green Lantern, etc (all the “Iconic” characters from Marvel and DC), have had a ton of really mediocre writers over the years. Superman is fucking 70 years+ just like Batman. That shit is bound to happen. I personally think the stuff that’s been written over the last few years in regards to Superman is pretty interesting. New Krypton was pretty cool. All the Geoff Johns Superman stuff was great.

Also, Miller’s version of Superman has always been weird. I don’t think he finds characters interesting if they don’t have some sort of inner demon to work though. In Dark Knight Returns he basically played him up as an avatar of Regan era politics that was complacent with the injustices going on as long as they weren’t on a global scale. Batman was a street level commado who made enough noise that the government came down on him. Batman saw the dry rot in his city, and decided to rip it out, and Superman just did “his job”. I think for the time, that idea of superman was interesting, but Superman as a character has a lot more to him than that.

The one thing I hope Snyder doesn’t fuck up is the costume. Singer fucked that shit up. He the red in the costume damn near brown. WTF was that shit for?

supes logo was what fucked it up for me in the last movie. Superman’s costume, while badass, always seemed like something he actually made. It truly looked like he took the cloth he was wrapped in, and made a suit from it.

In this movie, it just looked TOO designer made. I kept looking for a Nike swoosh on it somewhere

I’m also kind of on board the Metallo train. No robo homo

seriously, why just have ONE villain? It would be nice to start the movie with Superman having a crazy all out brawl with Metallo, just for geeks to get off on that, then move on the rest of the story.

Kinda like how I always thought a great opening to a Spider-Man movie would be to have him fight one of the bit characters, like Shocker, Rhino, or so on…

Wasn’t that an episode of the cartoon? I remember that. I thought it was great. I think Ledger would be a bit more direct, though. Honestly, it’s probably just a personal problem on my end, because I have yet to come up with a convincing argument as to why the character wasn’t what I wanted it to be.
