Kneel Before SRK - The Man of Steel Movie Thread

I want to shake this man’s hand, he gets it!

Despite Chronicle being heavily inspired by Akira, it’s a great movie.

edit: LMAO check out the video called The Death and Return of Superman XD with a Elijah Wood and Simon Pegg cameo

I’m reading the hate on this movie and holy shit…people are really taking the 9/11 connection too far. This movie is not encouraging terrosim and furthermore why is everyone so angry when supes destroys cities and not the avengers.

I enjoyed the movie, I wish there were more quiet, ponderous moments, but it doesn’t keep me from liking the film. As I expected it had a very similar structure to Earth 1, however taking details from a lot of other stories.

The way I interpreted the destruction (and I agree it is too bad it needs interpreting) is that Superman could not move the fight because the Kryptionians weren’t trying to fight him. The Kryptonians were killing Earthlings, Superman was just trying to stop them. Had Superman tried to move to a less populated area, he would have been there alone while the Kryptonians just continued the slaughter the sought out to do. This combined with Superman’s very distinct lack of experience (and at times raging emotion) naturally leads to what I saw on the screen.

In regard to Superman killing, that scene instantly harkened back to Byrne’s run and I had little problem with it thanks to Cavill’s display of Anguish. It is too bad they can’t do that with Wonder Woman now however.

I disagree with him when it comes to how Avengers carried the city destruction. Its like homeboy forgot that Captain America did pretty much address the situation of making sure people were okay and trying to contain the destruction and limiting damage. But other than that, I agree with everything else.

It’s 2013 and people still don’t know how the Clark Kent disguise works? SMH

I laughed at the explanation. He’s just gonna go be a reporter, so he can go to dangerous area’s. Brilliant. I bet those years you spent crab fishing helped on your resume. That’s what they look for when they look for investigative journalism.

The problem I had with that, is now they have to explain why he won’t kill anymore. He had no problem killing the last remaining member of his species in existence, rather than billions of other obvious actions (fly up, punch him 900000 feet like you’d done infinitely throughout the movie, etc etc etc), all so he could save like 4 people. So now when Darkseid, the GOD OF FUCKING EVIL, shows up, what’s the explanation for why Superman doesn’t slaughter him. Lex Luthor threatening the lives of everybody on earth? Just snap his neck too.

Having a superhero openly kill a villain is a REALLY hard decision to swallow, mainly due to the implications. Superman snapping necks made about as much sense as Batman using Uzi’s to take out criminals.

The movie needed to edit the scene where Supes crashes into the iHop. He should have just pointed at fucking Pete and stated “if you ever mention the word Kent ever again, I will punch through your fucking torso”

The movie really made it seem like everybody in Smallville knows about him, but just assumed is Jesus 2.0 so they’re OK with it.

shit like this doesn’t help me think otherwise:

Shit, could’ve fooled me!

Supes had him in a chokehold and couldn’t just…Ike fly up or aim his head eye or gauge his eyes?

If Lex Luthor is the next villain then I would like a Metallo/Luthor movie similar to the 80s reboot. Metallo first exposing Superman to his main weakness and then Luthor capturing him to get kryptonite

Yes!!! How dare my 65 year old mother not keep up to date with all the latest DC comics. How silly of her to use common sense and logic.

this message brought to you by the letter S, as in SARCASM

edit:

Seeing as they teased the Utopia casino in the movie, I am guessing they’re going to go that route for how Lex gets his kryptonite.

edit #2: that Landis review is spot on. It seems like the movie wanted to just cause as much CGI mayhem and destruction to beat out Avengers, and other superhero movies, rather than show us why Superman truly is Super.

And don’t give me this “oh he didn’t know how strong he was yet” bullshit. If I wanna watch weak Superman struggle to be a hero, I would watch Smallville after jamming a fork in my eyeballs.

 Man, I’ve been saying that throughout this thread! There were about a dozen things he could have done and the simplest would be flying zod out of the city!
Nah, Superman had a taste for blood and he wanted to kill, kill, KILL!

I know they’re trying to hammer in the “he didn’t know his full powers yet” nonsense, but to me it seemed like he was stupider than Spidey when he was wrestling.

Anywho, you fuckers have made me bust out 1978 Superman.

He could have flown him out the city, but then what? I was clear Zod wasn’t gonna stop until some motherfuckers died, so even if Supes incapacitates Zod without killing him, where could he be contained? Unless they had another device to open up the Phantom Zone, Zod had to die.

huh. first of all when it comes to his job at the daily planet, NIGGAS, THE SECOND MOVIE ISNT EVEN OUT YET. LOL. why is it too much to assume that he was hired on some low low thats my nigga superman, keep it on the hush hush shit, and that the government knows who he is also, but to avoid i dont know, superman getting pissed off and raging on humanity because of imprisoning his mom and or harassing her, they leave his mom alone, make sure to silence anyone from coming out that they know who superman is from a few childhood stories and theyre content just following him with drones.

did you niggas watch superman and lose brain cells. lol. i mean how is what i just typed not the easy next logical step you take.

moving on, zod is potentially stronger then superman if allowed to adapt even further to earth and the yellow sun, and angrier. how do you not understand that it was an obviously better decision for superman to just kill him and eliminate all potential future threat, then fly him to space or bum fuck no where russia, only to lose to zod, wake up 8 hours later after getting fucked up and earth is a wasteland, starting with clarks mom just cause.

the movie was a bit loose on clarks identity. i mean him saving the bus is national news with him at the forefront, so maybe deleted scenes will show his dad agreeing with the religious take on clark that woman had, just so people can shut the fuck up about it, and nothing will shut religious folks up quicker then being like maybe my son was granted temporary powers from god and to protect one of gods messengers or whatever, we should keep what happened here a secret for now. blah blah blah

its not really that hard to shut simple people up with fear mongering, and not to compare too much to our world because les we forget, um superman isnt real, and the comics are written in his favor for the most part, and hes surrounded by dumbasses who cant put two and two together. but anyways, look out our world, we have tons of documented weirdness from the janus miracles, to people lifting cars off of people, to bigfoot, ufos, various alien species, the list goes on forever. its not implausible that through a bit of simple explanations the event just got chopped up to a gift from god, and clark went back to being the nerd who saved a kid from drowning, but not some super powered gift from god. if we can ignore as much as we do of the weird of our world, i can imagine supermans younger slip ups just got tossed to the side.

shout to that article shitting on waid. i was literally going to do that today after seeing the movie again and refreshing my memory. i was like wow, there is so much wrong being said about this movie. people just really like to shit on superman, but they love them trash ass marvel movies and batman trash except dark knight. loool

on a second watch, the movie explains enough, and the rest you can make easy logical steps to the how, what, why, when, which im sure will get explained in 7 minutes in man of steel 2.

Still not seeing why he destroyed metropolis and was so reckless…gonna need some explanantion on why he would betray his moral code like that and shit on 70+ years of established characterization.

Imagine if Spider-Man started acting like punished…

I’m not disputing that Zod he had to die eventually because it really was a no choice scenario, my gripe is with the whole scene where it looked like Supes was helpless to stop a man he had a choke hold on from vaporizing a family. He could have just flown him over the city and then snapped his neck.

Of course the whole situation could have been avoided if Supes wasn’t so dead set on playing Smash Brothers with Zod in the middle of the city.

Oh yeah, that Chronicle writer dude had a good point about how the destruction of Metropolis was shrugged off, and used the guy asking the girls out to a baseball game as an example. I guess if the city’s survivors let the deaths of tens of thousands ruin their good time, then the terrorist aliens win! America!

because that would be stupid and that isn’t superman.

So Zod is stronger after a day of Earth’s sun, instead of Superman who spent his whole life there?

I will deal with that in a moment.

Ya my bad, I really should start basing my movie reviews on deleted scenes nobody has seen yet.

yeah why waste logic on the first movie, when you can save it for the sequel?

Your entire post gave me a nosebleed. IN MY EYES

Like I said earlier, this opens the doors in future movies. Now when Mongol, or Darkseid, or Brainiac, or any villain shows up, why doesn’t he just kill them too? Too much trouble to find Superman like ways of dealing with them. Much easier to just snap necks. Batman should have just killed Joker too, think of all the lives he would save. Hell, every hero should just kill people, and avoid reading Kingdom Come.

Well in the case with Zod, he really did not have any other alternative. Any krypton tech that could have conceivably held him was wrecked or floating in a black hole. It’s not like he could have dropped Zod in a bottomless pit like superman 2. It’s just an example of lazy writing. They could have easily have created a scenario where supes could have somehow contained Zod, but I guess this was more “dramatic”. Nothing can be done about it now.

Now if the writers were SMART with the sequel, they would make Superman actually come up with some other non-lethal alternatives fueled by his guilt over having to kill Zod. I could actually buy supes salvaging surviving alien tech to eventually build his fabled fortress of solitude.
Anything is better than the corner the writers have painted Superman into.

It’s as if the writers watched superman 3 and based man of steel off the evil superman…even the darken color scheme is the same.

The last scene takes place after a timeskip. Though the movie doesn’t quite hammer it home effectively, it is not the day after the alien invasion. At some point, people are going to start doing things again besides sit in front of their TVs with the news on a constant loop.

If the filmmakers have a shred of sense, they’ll take the opportunity to follow up on this issue in the next film. I fear that they’ll scuttle it, but since they didn’t follow it up in this movie, they pretty much have to.
