Kneel Before SRK - The Man of Steel Movie Thread

The biggest reason why people are knocking Superman for not giving a shit about collateral damage is because Avengers did such a damn good job of addressing that issue when it came to the final battle. You had Captain America pretty much making a battle plan to contain the battle and you saw the effects the battle had on citizens especially right at the end during the montage where people were putting candles up on the wall for the dead people. You didn’t get that with Man of Steel and it was more of an afterthought.

According to the new 52 canon which is now the official canon, roles were not engineered and pretty much everything about the origin story in the movie is false.

she’s not worthy of having babies with. i have kids so i would know

I actually didn’t have a problem with Superman killing Zod. My problem was that, even after Superman cried out in anguish over killing him, the whole thing was completely shrugged off by everyone in the very next scene. In fact, I could say the same about a large number of the good scenes in this film that didn’t look like DBZ battles (I watch Toku and skyscrapers get trashed on a weekly basis, but those are shows aren’t exactly meant for deep thinking).

It just negated the whole point of Superman showing that much immediate remorse for killing him.

The thing is, the Justice League cartoon did a good job of showing them saving people while fighting. Hell, the Superman cartoon has shown him literally saving people while fighting.

They also made supes into a jobbing little bitch…

In recent issues of new 52 superman, in his battle with hel, he punches him hard enough that the concussive force of the punches vibrates back all the way back to the watchtower…I just assumed supes not giving a fuck was pretty common by now.

That touch reminded me of the Byrne idea that Kryptonian interaction is so sterilized that people don’t even touch each other, hence babies born in birthing units.

People complaining about collateral damage. What about the MILITARY not giving too shits about civilians in the Smallville fight?? But I’m sure those folks were safe once they locked their doors.

I also thought it was quite courteous for the combatants to keep the fight on ONE street in a tiny town.

Hiding under an overpass would NOT do any good against a tornado of that size.

The scene where Superman casually hops over a tanker truck thrown by Zod and lets it level the building behind him made me laugh.

I think Metropolis must be a Kryptonian magnet because even after Zod and Supes are fighting in space, they still wind up in the middle of the city.

I think someone brought it up before, but how did Lois suddenly show up at the final scene of Zod’s and Kal’s final battle?

Was something preventing Supes from flying Zod AWAY from the people he was trying to vaporize?

Okay that’s it for my obligatory nitpicking for now. Still liked the movie though.

Why do people compare about damage…fuck have any of you watched DBZ.

DBZ? The show where every battle very pointedly takes place in the middle of nowhere?

na, you’re just not watching the movies. lots of city fights there.

DBZ is notorious for fights in the middle of nowhere. Plus they could just wish everyone who died back to life with the magic dragon hax.

Does that stop citties being wrecked?

Considering how many nondescript geographical features get wrecked in Dragon Ball on the regular, yeah, I’d say it goes a long way.

Besides, the star of Dragon Ball is an illiterate guy with a head injury. If he can take some time out of his day to mitigate the chances of some poor schmuck getting killed by an uprooted parking garage, then surely the very literate, non-head-injured Kal-El can muster at least that level of care.

He didn’t have time…and goku’s villains are very polite cause they actually follow goku out of town. The only time a villain didn’t give a fuck would probably be buu and cell.

Superman didn’t give a fuck because the filmmakers didn’t give a fuck. That’s basically the long and short of it. Anything competent about this film comes from the fact that they’re competent storytellers, but anything incompetent about it comes from the fact that they’re not really right for this character.

There’s a dozen directors per square mile in Hollywood who can do big smash-em-up fight scenes. Surely they could have found one a little more in touch with humanity than Zack Snyder.

Hater…

Another scene that made me laugh out loud was when that chick said “He saved us all!” while being covered by the ashes of a devastated city and countless victims.

Once again, I find it funny how supes and zod wind up back in the city after their fight in space.

One thing that I’m confused about is the pointlessness of Superman’s secret identity. Most of the Smallville knows who he is or should at lease have a strong suspicion, the military knows who he is unless they’re retarded and yet Supes dons the glasses and doesn’t even bother changing his name.

Does the phantom zone projector only affect Kryptonians because supes had a hard time escaping the gravity pull while saving Lois, but she looked fine.

I laughed at the extended jesus pose after Jor-El’s speech about being Earth’s “savior”… subtle.

Yeah, that was weird, but it’s just one of those casual action movie physics violations.
