Any thoughts on how Sagat/King would work? I was thinking of using Sagat as a battery/zone/zone counter with meter building and defense gems, and having King come in with damage gems and burn the meter, then launcher tag, repeat. I’d rather go with sagat because of the High/Low fireballs and his tiger knee, plus I can call my team “Pair of Kings”.
I ran that for a while, had trouble getting any good combos off his TU, part of why I switched to Ken. He’s solid though, but fast rushdown tends to spell trouble for both characters
In theory (don’t have my game at the moment, so I can’t test this) couldn’t you knee juggle into AA throw off of TU? I’m also curious as to why you switched to Ken. What does he bring to the table with King that say, Ryu or akuma couldn’t.
Ken’s Tatsu gives you a full jump in combo on tag cancel; King has something like the second or third highest jump in damage meterless in the game (Asuka is ahead by 4 points, Hugo might be ahead as well). You can also knee juggle off a tag canceled HP SRK. As the point of King is getting those sweet juggles, I find he has plenty of synergy. That and I have no clue how to play Akuma
Cool, thanks for the insight. I’ll try Ken out when I get the chance. I know I want to play King, but finding a good partner for him is tougher than I though. Akuma’s health is just way too low for me, so I’m trying to avoid thatm but I never thought to use Ken, because I dismissed him as a blond Ryu.
The tag mechanic makes them play very differently honestly. You can make Ken’s HP DP safe via tag while I don’t think you can do so with Ryu. His Tatsu gives you a free jump in combo, 2 frame super lets you punish all sorts of things, and the ability to store a counterhit makes his overheads very scary (plus you can combo into your super from the :mk: one). His pressure game revolves more around these and his stepkick though, while Ryu can CADC EVERYTHING to keep pressure up.
All in all, part of the reason I really like Ken is that if you can connect the Tatsu fairly close it forces stand so you can go straight into the Knee loops after the jump in, otherwise you have to spend a meter to cr:hp: xx EX Konvict.
If you like zoning, I’d say try Guile, but I personally can’t stand his gameplay. He’s a damn solid point and battery though, and I believe you can get a solid Knee juggle off a tag canceled Flash Kick
This, but you have to be hella solid in your zoning to get the win. I play Guile/King, but the team seems to have no comeback potential since neither characters have any solid way to get in on a running opponent. Please someone enlighten me if I’m wrong.

If someone wants to run for 15-20 seconds or so, it’s hard to chase them down regardless of what character you’re using. Part of the whole “did not think the timer through” issue.
true, but just saying because some characters have specials that close a lot of space or home in on the opponent making it at least a bit easier then the rest of the cast. Guile and King don’t have these type of specials.

I really want to see how far Rolento/King can get me, but I must say: Ken/King seems a hell of a lot stronger overall. Ken is a solid enough of a character on his own (has everything he needs I think); but the damage you can get from him with a meter switch is just stupid. He also has a more reliable tag in option with his c. fierce, fierce shoryu compared to Rolento’s that is screen dependent.
Running Heihachi/King, they both do nice meterless damage. You can pretty much string together their bnb’s for easy switches, and they get decent damage off a Cross Rush. Both don’t have great wakeup and some trouble with zoning.
Any thoughts on the game’s choice of King/Marduk?
Went to a Next Level event over the weekend while i was on vaction. And i came in with Sagat/King. The only experience i have with sagat is that he was my main counter pick in SSF4 since i mained Honda. But im thinking about switching from Sagat to Ken so i can have some sort of offensive presence and i hate having to rely on a Tiger Uppercut on wake up
One of my matches was streamed, feel free to critique because i DO NOT have much Sagat Expericence. its around the 1 hour 47 minute mark.
That’s actually the team I play, see my posts above.
IMO they complement each other well, each excelling in different situations. The only big issue they have is that it can be somewhat easy to run away from them, however once you get in and the kd is established, the game tilts strongly in your favor.
If you have any specific questions, I should have the relevant info.
I ran King/Marduk for a while, but didn’t find it to be that hot. I mean, part of it is that I’m not a 2d Grappler player; they’re my choice in 3d games, but I just don’t quite get them in 2d. The other half was that Marduk is about as meter hungry as King, and neither of them build it that fast.
exactly. I feel King needs to be anchor and have a good battery on point that covers his main weakness, zoning.

Julia King is…awesome. There is a lot you can do of her really great hit confirm abilities, decent at building meter with her twirl move, great footsie to open people up, decent defense once he is out.
diggin’ it
King/Marduk is actually a good functioning team. King is also good with any character that has a move that holds the opponent in place on the ground during tag cancels, but that holds true for a lot of characters.
I just can’t see king viable on point in high level there i said it.
I started with Abel/King but what it had in sheer power it lacked something. Been trying Juri/King and really enjoying them. King 4xknee into her super is 522 damage which aint too shabby. Her EX Shikusen has a nice wall bounce which is punishable but trying to figure out best way. Still learning the both of them but so far so good
